Good Alternative To Load A Listview Using StreamReader

the code below just all of the sudden started loading the list and then just decided that it wasn't going to let me view any of it lol nothing but a blank listview,,but according to the scrollbar there is stuff loaded.and while i'm here whats a good alternative to loading a listview using StreamReader .. it seems slow compared to the old vb6 loads I've done on list in the upwards of 45000 or more and even they loaded in less than 10 sec [code] 1 min after posting this and 20 min rubbing my head before that..i found the prob..the form load wasn't loading my headers at all..i didnt noticed that ..course there was no errors either.

In my VB6 project I had eight list boxes in an array. I was able to create a command to move to the next listbox by adding one to the index. I was able to move to the next selected item in the listbox with a command also.All the data in my arrayed listboxes: I was wondering if I could put into a ListView with multiple columns in VB2008 (each column would have the items from the listboxes mentioned before).
If they were in a ListView, would I be able to work in each column by moving to the next item with a command like I did before, and then move to the next column of items with a separate command?
I was thinking it would be easier to do that than array all those listboxes again.

I have 4k records in access database. And one of the field value contains ~100 lines each so and one other field has ~25 lines. So total database size reaches ~30MB and it takes lot of time 15-20 seconds to load the database in vb.net using odbc [URL]..and updating of any other small fields also takes time due to database being large
So as an alternative I used rtf file (txt files were not preserving all the newline characters). So these file are around 5-10kb only. But for 4k records and 2 fields I have now 8k files. And copying of these 8k rtf files is taking huge time for 5MB transfer it takes an hour or so.So is there any other alternative for storage of this data. So that it will be portable and easily loaded/accessed/updated from vb.net?

I have a problem with a streamreader in visual basic 2008.I am updating a database from text files on an ftp server. The streamreader works fine until the file is more than 100,000 bytes long.It reads until it reaches this point and then just ends. No error message, it just reads to this point which happens to be 2 fields out of 6 in the database stream. My question is - does the streamreader have a limit? And if so what is a workaround?

I'm writing a program that basically loads an entire text file into a streamreader variable, then reads this variable line by line and parses and writes a line into a new text file. I'm VERY new and my knowledge is mostly self-taught, but I can't seem to get out of this one. It works for smaller files, but it appears to reach a limit in characters at some point because in a file of 900 lines, it stops writing about halfway through 800 and there are no errors, the program actually completes and the message box pops up.
There are a few things with this code I already know I should fix, such as creating the new text file name, it's messy, I just don't know how.

This one has me stumped. My listview which is called Xlistview1 I would like for when the form opens it will automatically load the example.text file to the listview and also when the form closes to save it. And one more thing I would also like to give users the option to save it by browsing as well a save and load button. Is it possible to have both of these?

OK, I've been searching for hours trying to find the best way to fill a listview from a comma delimited file but have come up empty handed so far. I feel that I should load the entire file into an array or arraylist and the send the array or arraylist to the listview. However, if this is the best way to do it, I have not been able to find any examples of how to do this.

When ListView is not in Virtual mode the following method seems to be the fast method to load a large list into ListView:

I've created an app (VB.NET) where each installation of the app works with a single local database on the PC. No multiuser and no ability for the user to change databases - the database is effectively part of the app, with a fixed scema, only the data will change.At the moment the database is SQL CE. It has about 30 tables with some simple relationships between the tables.
I'm wondering if there is an alternative to SQL CE that might be faster in this scenario. Although SQL CE is excellent and easy to use, I get the feeling there is perhaps an unecessary overhead when using it for something simple - and it does seem a little slow when my app is doing complex stuff that interacts a lot with the DB. In my prototype I actually loaded the 'database' tables from text files into Arrays and developed subs and functions to perform the database searches etc. It was blindingly fast but I realised it wasn't a scaleable solution because it was an 'in-memory' database. A compromise would be to 'page' data into array when needed, but it all gets horribly complex and that's probably why some very clver people have created SQL CE !
