I have an .aspx page. In this grid I'm adding a bunch of controls. The first control however is an ExtObject, not one of our preset VB.NET controls. When I go to access the value on the backend for this field with this code:
form.AndOr.getValue()
It doesn't work. Basically, the radio button value isn't saving when I save the rest of the stuff. So I tried to add code to do it. It was just defaulted to 'And' each time. Below is a snippet of code from the actual asp.net grid.
With .Item(2)
.Ref = "../Payee2"
.LabelWidth = 90
With .AddFieldSet("Payee 2")
.AddControl(New Forms.Control("", "../PayeeId")).Hidden = True
.AddControl(New Forms.Control("", "../AddressId")).Hidden = True
[Code] .....
And I get this error:
form.AndOr is not defined
Does the Ext ref: mean something different than my controls and how I access them?

I am a bit stuck with coding my save button and combobox.My entire form is ready, database is linked.All fields from DB are linked to their textboxes on the form.But i just ran into a big wall which i cant seem to break down.My save button, which is used to save the content from all the textboxes on the form to the access database refuses to work.The other this is, i want to use a combobox on my form to view the already saved entries in the access database.I think a combobox works for that, but i am not exactly sure how to pull that one off.

Im using buttons from A to Z in a toolstrip which I need to capture the text property of the button which trigger click event. I do it this way which took a long coding to mention all buttons (A-Z) click events.
vb Private Sub az_btn(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles A_ToolStripButton.Click, B_ToolStripButton.Click ... Z_ToolStripButton.Click
'shows text property of the clicked button
MessageBox.Show(sender.ToString)
End Sub
is there any efficient way to do this?

I have some code like this:
Dim col As Collection = New Collection
col.Add(value1, "key1")
col.Add(value2, "key2")
' later...
For Each item As String In col
' want to get valueX and keyX here; currently, "item" holds the value
Next
How can I get both the value and key within the loop? Maybe there is another class that makes this easier?

I have 3 forms, one frmMain - main form, second is frmUserType- childform, and the last frmCreateUserType. In the main form I have a menu item to open my frmUserType, In this form I have a button to open another form which is my frmCreateUserType, In this form I have a button to add records then update the listview in frmUserType. The problem is the listview will not access with my add button control in frmCreateUserType. I tried not to used mdiparent declaration for my frmMain and frmUserType as children and it works, so meaning that the problem is showing my frmUserType as childform?I am using vb.net 2008
Code to open my second form (frmUserType)
[CODE]...........
Code for my add button to update the listview in frmUserType

I am considering a piece of code that will manage access to a collection object from multiple threads - add, update, remove, clear. OK ... so I have put a sync lock within each method, but what is not clear from the MS documentation is exactly how the sync lock is behaving. Is it locking the piece of code it wraps? Or is it locking the object? And if it is locking the object a private static object should lock out any code locked on the object within all instances of the object? i.e. if an add operation is underway, an update, delete or clear will wait for the lock to be released.
Finally, if I have multiple threads contending for the sync lock, how is the release managed? First come, first serve? random (from my p.o.v)? Is there a chance that two separate threads could blunder into 'locked' code simulataneously?

I'm creating a windows forms program and have recently noticed a large amount of memory slowly being eaten by the application. I went through my program and tried to tie up as many loose ends as I could in relation to object creation but noticed that the program would still keep memory for every form loaded until it eventually crashed.
I decided to make a simple test program which sole purpose is to pop-up a new form with a few controls, wait for 200 milliseconds, then close the form and repeat the process 30 times every time I hit a button. I found it caused the same behavior, even with the only new object creation being that of the form. So, I decided to manually invoke the garbage collector in a subroutine which handles the formclosed event. During tests I would get some memory back occasionally, but not enough to make a difference in the long run. So I start setting the form variable to nothing before I called GC.collect(). The program will initially eat a few 1000K of memory before leveling off and using only 20-40K for every 30 forms created.
Now what I'm wondering is, what is the point of an automated garbage collection system if it requires constant manual evocation and explicit dereferencing of all new objects to be effective? Have I completely lost grasp on the scope of VB.Net forms and it simply never marks forms as available memory to be cleared?I would have thought object memory references created within a form would be marked as usable when the form's close or dispose routine is called and no references to objects created within the form exist anywhere outside the closed form.

I am wanting to make a collection of form instances.I was wondering if the arrayList is a list of pointers (or references) to items added or if a new instance of an object is placed when using the add method.
i.e. if I had: Public Shared forms as Arraylist = new Arraylist Then if I called forms.add me from an instance of a form would it create a pointer or reference to the instance or generate a whole new one?

I have 5 text boxes that I need to perform several operations on as a group, named tb1, tb2, tb3, tb4, tb5.for example, if I want to retrieve the text from each one and process it, I believe I can use the text box or control collection and test each textbox to see if it's name starts with tb, check to see if it has text in it, and then process the text.I think I would use something like for each textbox in..... to test the collection but not yet comfortable with collections and this seems like a good place to start learning how to use them.

Is it good practice to store sub-collections of item X inside a parent collection of item X for caching 'filter-queries' which are performed on the parent collection? (They won't be used together (as in color AND type).) Or is it also ok to just Loop over the collection and return the correct entities in a temporary collection?

I have already done the creation of button and the dragging of button at runtime already.But now i need to know how do i save the last dragged button on the form and also detect the name of the last clicked button.so lets say i now drag a button to coordinates 25,254. so when i exit the form and the next time i launch it, the button will still be at 25,254. and this one will go on for the number of button i created like 100. so when i launch the form the 100 button will be at the exact position where i last saved them.the second part is lets say i created button1 and button2 on the form in runtime. so when i clicked the first button, it should display button1. and if i clicked on button 2, it should say button2. same goes for like 100buttons.
