View 5 RepliesI've got a couple of drop down lists for languages. I bind them to a language list that comes from a query. Then the fields are also bound to the row in the DB they relate to. I have several panels with the language drop down - each "tied" to a different table in my DB. When I call up different records on the same panel the drop downs immediately "set to the position" of that rows language in the list. But when I call up another panel - tied to another database table - I see that language in the drop down.

I'm trying to create a LINQ query (or queries) that count the total number of occurences of a combinations of items in one list that exist in a different list. For example, take the following lists:
CartItems DiscountItems
========= =============
AAA AAA
[code]....
The result of the query operation should be 2 since I can find two combinations of AAA and BBB (from DiscountItems) within the contents of CartItems.My thinking in approaching the query is to join the lists together to shorten CartItems to only include items from DiscountItems. The solution would be to find the CartItem in the resulting query that occurs the least amount of times, thus indicating how many combinations of items exist in CartItems.When CartItems is filtered to only the items in DiscountItems, it can be visually displayed like this:
CartItems that get a discount
=============================
AAA BBB <= This combination is eligible for a discount
AAA BBB <= This combination is eligible for a discount
AAA <= Not eligible
Thus, because there are 2 combinations of the discount in the Cart, the result is 2.Here's the query I already have, but it's not working. query results in an enumeration with 100 items, far more than I expected.

I accept both C# and VB.NET suggestion, even though I'm writing an app in VB.NET I have two lists of intergers
List1 {1,2,3,5}
List2 {2,4,6,7}
I want to have new List3 {4,6,7} which is composed of elements of List2 that are not in List1. I know I can write a nice For Each loop for this but I want it done in LINQ I've been looking for such methods at Enumerable Methods, but I can't find it.

I have a list of CartItems that can receive a discount based on the items specified in the list of DiscountItems. I need to be able to pull out the items in the Cart that can receive a discount and apply the appropriate discount specfied in the DiscountItem. I am using SourceSafe 2005, and I have a project in VB.NET Framework 4.What I want is a way to automate the build process and hopefully integrate easy deployment. I'd like to be able to send an automated notification when a build is made that lists the comments of the SourceSafe check-in's in the body of the message.I've looked at a few options and some of them are confusing. I've seen it implemented with SVN, nAnt and CruiseControl, but it looks like it might take ages to set up being a novice of the aforementioned technologies.What would be the easiest way to set something like this up in your opinion? I am trying to setup a lookup combo box in my web page. I was using a linq data source but I then moved my linqtosql code to it's own class library for my DAL dll (took out of app_code folder). So, I am converting the page code to be able to still have lookups driven now by a biz object.Here's what I have done in my biz layer...

I then setup an object data source and mapped it to this class.I have a few questions as when I was doing internet searches I didn't find anyone that seemed to be doing this and yet I know lookup tables / combo boxes are common...I went with returning a list but I could have returned an IEnumerable or IQueryable. In my reading it seemed IQueryable had more functionality for linq to sql but since I am returning a simple two column list then I only need to return an IEnumerable or List. I went with a List since it's strongly typed.

I've got a datacontext and created a binding source using LINQ to sql but cannot filter said bindingsource. The supportsfilter of the bindingsource is set to false ? why ? I can't find any info to say that I cannot filter a binding source based on a linq query.[code]

I am new to Visual Basic 2008 and NET and am using the Visual Studio 2008 Express editions. I recently downloaded the ebook "Build a Program Now!" for VB and have been working through it without problem until te end of the penultimate chapter 8.
Part of the exercise includes the following code:

Whenever I attempt to execute this code, I get the error "The method or operation is not implemented" on the last line before the End Sub. This suprised me because when I typed in the f after the = sign, Intellisense offered me the single choice of the required filteredByMake, suggesting to me (in my probable naivety) that it recognised it as a syntactically corrrect choice. This is not down to an error on my part somewhere in attempting the exercise as I get the same result trying to run the Complete code solution that accompanies the book. I have successfully replaced this and a similar Sub with SQL queries on the datasets in question, why the above code does not work and what can be done to correct it.

It's playing in the background since the Form is hidden. When I play itin Debug, everything works fine. When I run the app outside Debug, I get this error: [URL] The Music File is there, but strangely, there comes this weird error.
A particular VB.NET project is actually throwing 'Build Failed' But when I try rebuilding again it says 'Rebuild Succeeded'. It keeps alternating this behavior. Kind of random. Any vbc.exe issue of long locking the PDB or xml files?

Can you tell me how to test these events? My postbuild event, I believe calls a project file in the solution file that wraps files together in a bundle in debug mode. Can you tell me how the posbuild event works and when it is called?
View 2 RepliesI am using 2008 Express Edition. I am trying to make a Release build instead of a Debug build.Under Tools->Options, Projects and Solutions->General - I checked Show advanced build configurations. The option to switch configurations does not show up in the IDE.
After this, I went to the Project Properties->Compile and switched the Configuration from Active(Debug) to Release.After building, I looked in my project directory, however only in the Debug sub-directory was the .exe and nothing in the Release sub-directory.I have used Visual C++ Express Edition, where I noticed that if you do not change to Release in the IDE than after changing to Release in properties, resets the project to the last configuration setting which is usually Debug.how to make the Debug/Release box available in the IDE, since Tools/Options does not make it show up?
I just created a simple application. I Builded that using build->build myapp. I got .exe of that application. i runned. all went fine. but when i closed that app, even after closing it is in memory. it is still running. how to deploy it properly?
View 12 RepliesI have some very simple questions about making a release build exe in vb.net using MS VB 2010 Express.
I realize that my project's executable is built in the bin/debug folder. However, when I copy this to any other location on my computer or someone else's, this executable does not function. I have read that I need to create a release build but in MS VB 2010 Express, when I use the Project-Properties menu and change the Compile tab configuration to Release and the path to binRelease, I still get the exe in the binDebug folder and not the binRelease folder.
1) Is it normal that exe's from the debug folder do not function outside of the debug folder?
2) Most importantly, if the release build produces a faster exe, could someone please explain step by step how to do this with MS VB 2010 Express ? I do not see any button on the compile tab in the project properties that actually builds the release.
I was able to build both debug and release versions of my VB code before now I no longer have the option to build a release version. How do I turn it back on
View 3 RepliesI don't know what this is called so I've struggled to find an answer from google but I have a vague memory of it from t'old days.I've sub-classed (* see below) about 8 framework controls, overriden some properties and added some functionality into each one.The changes I have made are identical in every case. If I make a change, I have to go through each class and apply the same change there.I was hoping there may be a keyword such as <IncludeSourcefile "common.vb> that I can put into each class.
(* note) I use the term sub-classed but I don't know if that's the correct terminology. I've also seen it used for call-backs. Is sub-classed the correct term to use?
