C# - Use LINQ And Build A .Net App Rapidly?
Jul 22, 2010I am looking for a tool that would allow me to use LINQ and build a .Net app rapidly.

View 3 RepliesI'm building flat file content from collections of strings.
Example collection: A, B, C, D, E, etc.
I want to be able to output these values to a string with line feeds in one swoop with Linq if possible.[cod]e...
Suppose that I have more than one List (L1,L2,L3,L4) of instances of a class [code]Now I want to querry the 4 lists with one call like Dim L= (from P as MyClass in (L1,L2,L3,L4) where p.Datetime> XXXXX order by p.datetime select p).tolist..is it possible to do something like that? I Know that I could do a FOR NEXT loop with each list but i am looking for a way to do this with a single call
View 2 RepliesI'm using sockets to connect to servers and for some strange reason I can't identify, the socket is taking several seconds (5 maybe 6) seconds to connect when using an IP whereas is instant when using a hostname. Here is my code to connect:[code...]
In the above code, server of course is a string. I've tested this with a friend and she's experiencing the same issue and I'd like to get around it as it's sort of annoying..While debugging GetHostEntry is the line that seems to take forever when using an IP.
I am working on a program that is rapidly growing. After the login screen, I have to wait about 10 seconds before the main form shows up. I want to add a loading or splash screen in that time, but I am having a lot of trouble having two forms launch at once.
View 2 RepliesAs a brief summary, I have an issue writing a program. A part of the program has a While loop that is supposed to change some labels to random numbers every iteration of the loop. But, instead of all that, the labels just turn blank until the end of the loop is achieved, and only then is the random number written.
While (o < 3000)
r1 = Rnd()
str1 = CStr(r1)
Label1.Text = str1
o = o + 1
End While
i am making a website for trading, with trading feeds coming from a source in an excel sheet. I have to show data from the excel sheet in a gridview. When i make connection it will fail due to rapidly changing data; each cell in the sheet changes value 1-3 times per second. I am using an Ajax Timer of interval 100. Here is my code:

View 1 RepliesI am new to Visual Basic 2008 and NET and am using the Visual Studio 2008 Express editions. I recently downloaded the ebook "Build a Program Now!" for VB and have been working through it without problem until te end of the penultimate chapter 8.
Part of the exercise includes the following code:
Private Sub tsbFilterByMake_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles tsbFilterByMake.Click
Dim filteredByMake = From Listing In Me.CarTrackerDataSet.Listing _
[CODE].........
Whenever I attempt to execute this code, I get the error "The method or operation is not implemented" on the last line before the End Sub. This suprised me because when I typed in the f after the = sign, Intellisense offered me the single choice of the required filteredByMake, suggesting to me (in my probable naivety) that it recognised it as a syntactically corrrect choice. This is not down to an error on my part somewhere in attempting the exercise as I get the same result trying to run the Complete code solution that accompanies the book. I have successfully replaced this and a similar Sub with SQL queries on the datasets in question, why the above code does not work and what can be done to correct it.
I'm trying to build an application to monitor a site to build statistics from the data being read. This HTML looks like this.
<div id="history">
<h4>HISTORY</h4>
<table border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0">
[code]...
Now I can read the html and put the text anywhere, I just don't how to read specific parts so I can separate the data out.
I just want a program compiled in Visual Basic 2008. which can just submit a form of only one field. the form is already uploaded to the server but i don't want to go to that url every time to do so.What I want here, just to open application and fill that field and submit. Is this possible in visual basic 2008?Also let me know how to create a button that can rapidly submit the form repeatly untill the second button named cancel is pressed.
field name of that form is "msisdn" and the action on submit button is post method and url in target is url...
I have a Form with a Media Player in it. Which plays a Song.
[Code]...
It's playing in the background since the Form is hidden. When I play itin Debug, everything works fine. When I run the app outside Debug, I get this error: [URL] The Music File is there, but strangely, there comes this weird error.
A particular VB.NET project is actually throwing 'Build Failed' But when I try rebuilding again it says 'Rebuild Succeeded'. It keeps alternating this behavior. Kind of random. Any vbc.exe issue of long locking the PDB or xml files?
View 9 RepliesI have a vb.net 2008 windows form application that I was just assigned to work on. how to maintain and test changes to both the pre build and the post build events? Can you tell me how to test these events? My postbuild event, I believe calls a project file in the solution file that wraps files together in a bundle in debug mode. Can you tell me how the posbuild event works and when it is called?
View 2 RepliesI am using 2008 Express Edition. I am trying to make a Release build instead of a Debug build.Under Tools->Options, Projects and Solutions->General - I checked Show advanced build configurations. The option to switch configurations does not show up in the IDE.
After this, I went to the Project Properties->Compile and switched the Configuration from Active(Debug) to Release.After building, I looked in my project directory, however only in the Debug sub-directory was the .exe and nothing in the Release sub-directory.I have used Visual C++ Express Edition, where I noticed that if you do not change to Release in the IDE than after changing to Release in properties, resets the project to the last configuration setting which is usually Debug.how to make the Debug/Release box available in the IDE, since Tools/Options does not make it show up?
I just created a simple application. I Builded that using build->build myapp. I got .exe of that application. i runned. all went fine. but when i closed that app, even after closing it is in memory. it is still running. how to deploy it properly?
View 12 RepliesI have some very simple questions about making a release build exe in vb.net using MS VB 2010 Express.
I realize that my project's executable is built in the bin/debug folder. However, when I copy this to any other location on my computer or someone else's, this executable does not function. I have read that I need to create a release build but in MS VB 2010 Express, when I use the Project-Properties menu and change the Compile tab configuration to Release and the path to binRelease, I still get the exe in the binDebug folder and not the binRelease folder.
1) Is it normal that exe's from the debug folder do not function outside of the debug folder?
2) Most importantly, if the release build produces a faster exe, could someone please explain step by step how to do this with MS VB 2010 Express ? I do not see any button on the compile tab in the project properties that actually builds the release.
I was able to build both debug and release versions of my VB code before now I no longer have the option to build a release version. How do I turn it back on
View 3 RepliesSo when i build or click debug on my program. No errors come up and its smooth. So i decide to publish my programme. However. I come up with a bunch of errors during the publishing.
Here they are:Error 1 Cannot publish because a project failed to build. 1 1 Simple CALC
Error 2 Unable to copy file "binReleaseSimple CALC.exe.manifest" to "binReleaseapp.publishApplication FilesSimple CALC_1_0_0_0Simple CALC.exe.manifest". The specified path, file name, or both are too long. The fully qualified file name must be less than 260 characters, and the directory name must be less than 248 characters.
given this function:
Public Function Search(ByVal StartIndex As Integer, _
ByVal MaxResults As Integer, _
ByVal AccountNumber As String, _
ByVal LastName As String, _
[Code]....
instead of what I expected:
Select count(*) from remitline where lastname = "smith"
What am I doing wrong building up the where clause? I'm using Castle ActiveRecord 2.1
if there is that much of a performance gain in running a LINQ stored procedure versus a LINQ query?
View 1 RepliesI have a listbox on my xaml form that I bound to a List(Of MyType) property. I populated this list like so:
Dim fields As List(Of CheckableFields) = New List(Of CheckableFields)
Using context As ITIPEntities = New ITIPEntities()
Try[code]....
Now I'm at the point where the user selects the fields they want included in a report and I need to iterate over the required fields. This is my linq query:
For Each checkedField In _requiredFields
If checkedField.IsChecked Then
If checkedField.FieldData IsNot Nothing AndAlso checkedField.FieldData.Trim IsNot String.Empty Then[code].....
Example-I have a person class
Public Class Person
Private _fname As String
Public Property Fname() As String
[Code]...
Forgive my ignorance on this.I have this LINQ Query:Dim ngBikersDataContext As New CarBikeWalkDataContext
bikersList = (From c In ngBikersDataContext.Reg_Bikers _
Order By c.L_Name _
Select New Bikers() With { _
.BikerID = c.BikerID, _
.F_Name = c.F_Name, _
[Code]...
with the error "Overload resolution failed because no accesible 'Select' accepts this number of arguments."
Over the "NEW" I get an error " ')'expected."
We are doing a query against an in-memory collection of LINQ data objects. The wrinkle is that we are ordering by a column in a related table whose records have not necessarily been loaded yet (deferred loading:)
Dim oPkgProducts = _
From b In oBillPkg.BillProducts _
Where b.Successful.GetValueOrDefault(Common.X_INDETERMINATE) = _
[code]....
The pattern I'm trying to avoid is checking if a string (normally a control's text value) is null/empty, and if it is, comparing it using Contains to a field in my data. Obviously the field isn't hard-coded into my extension, neither is the object type.What I've got works perfectly in Linq to Objects, but I get the generic run-time error "LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'System.String Invoke(GenericQueryHelper.Customer)' method, and this method cannot be translated into a store expression." when using an entity framework model.
Here's what I have:
<System.Runtime.CompilerServices.Extension()>
Public Function CompareAndFilter(Of T)(source As System.Linq.IQueryable(Of T), expressionField As System.Linq.Expressions.Expression(Of System.Func(Of T, String)), compareTo As String)
[code]....
I want my usage to look something like this:
Dim results = repository.Customers.CompareAndFilter(Function(c) c.FirstName, searchText)
I do need to get this running against a SQL database really, as it is filtering results, so I don't want to be doing that in memory.
How can I convert this code LINQ to SQL in C # LINQ to SQL in Vb.net
[Code]...
How do I add ROW_NUMBER to a LINQ query or Entity? How can I convert this solution to VB.NET?
[Code]...
I'm having trouble porting that last line. I have been unable to locate a VB.NET example. I'm actually not looking for any paging functionality like the example provides, just good old-fashioned Row_Number(Order By X) row index.
How can I convert an object of type System.Data.Linq.DataQuery to System.Linq.IQueryable?I'm working with Visual Basic/Silverlight, and the source code of my query is as follows:
Public Function Get_Cli_Pag() As IQueryable(Of V_Cliente_Pagare)
Dim Qry = From P In Me.Context.Pagares Join C In Me.Context.Codigos On C.Codigo
[code]....
I just upgraded a project from VB 2008 to VB 2010. Before, the project did not use LINQ. I have started implementing it. So, I have updated the target framework from 2.0 to 3.5, and added a reference to System.Core, and imported the namespace System.LINQ to the entire project and also imported System.Data.LINQ into the form I'm working with (because it was not available in the list for Imported Namespaces in the references tab).
It's not throwing any errors now, but my IntelliSense is not working for LINQ stuff.
For example... I write this:
[CODE]....................
Then, if I type S. on the next line, the IntelliSense doesn't grab what it should for S (Only get Equals, GetHashCode, GetType, ReferenceEquals, and ToString, instead of the options I should get like Count, First, FirstOrDefault, etc...). If I Type S.First. then its the same thing, no IntelliSense that lists the available fields for S, just the standard options (Equals, GetHashCode, GetType, ReferenceEquals, and ToString). I should be seeing my column names in my table when I type S.FirstOrDefault.
So any ideas what is going on? When I type the code, for example, MessageBox.Show(S.FirstOrDefault.FirstName), it works perfectly. But it doesn't change the casing of the text (so it would read s.firstordefault.firstname) and no intellisense while doing it. But no errors. BTW - Everything works perfectly when creating a NEW VS 2010 application, it's just my projects upgraded from Visual Basic 2008 that have this issue.
