How To Control Accurate The Program While Comparing Them
Jul 25, 2009
I'm creating a program (SURPRISE!), one of the features it has is a tutorial helping with learning a language which has a lot to do with the program's topic. So, I want the program to be capable of getting what the user inputs using his microphone (as a respond to a question the program asks), then analyze it and compare it to a prerecorded answer, then tell him how well he did. How to do that?
If this can't be done using VB.Net, which wouldn't be much of a surprise, then what programming language or whatever do you recommend for me to create an external .exe file which takes in the input, analyzes it, and returns the result to my program? (Isn't this the longest sentence in the English language!)Yeah, and, how can I control how accurate the program is while comparing them?
I have been trying to create a timer program with VB 2010 to the accuraccy of 0.05seconds (If possible, 0.01s)I insert a timer into the form (Timer1, Interval - 50).[code]But when I run the timer for 1min, the recorded time was 48.05 sec.How can I make my timer more accurate? Is there anything i have done wrongly with the code?
I have 10 values to compare against each other for duplicates and would like a recommendation to do this most efficiently. The values are associated with the NumericUpDown control. I'm using VS and VB 2010.
My last assignment for this class is supposed to deal with arrays but I can't figure out how they coincide with the assignment the teacher has given. The assignment is to create a program comparing two different drinks.
On the first form the user rates the drinks on a scale of 1 to 10( 1 being the worst, 10 being the best). Then a form with a summary of the results of the taste test is displayed. It should display the winner of the competition, the total number of taste testers, and the average rating for each drink.
My question is how do I get the information from the first form onto the second form and how do I calculate the average rating? Do I use an array?
I have a DataTable that's constantly being updated with new data from my database via a timer. That data is eventually reformatted and displayed in a DataGridView control. In an effort to prevent the DataGridView from completely refreshing from re-databinding (thus, clearing out selections, resetting scrollbars, defaulting sorting settings, and making the gridview flash as it reupdates), I'm simply removing old rows from the datagrid that no longer exist in the DataTable, and adding new rows to the datagrid that appear in the DataTable since the last update.
For the sake of simplicity, we'll call DataGridView the LEFT table, and DataTable the RIGHT table I'm looking for a way to go through both tables (LEFT and RIGHT), and remove old rows that are no longer in RIGHT and delete them from LEFT. And look for new items in RIGHT and add them to LEFT. Each table has a column called "RecID" containing a unique id for each entry that can be used for comparison. is there a way to do this all in one loop? What I'm looking for, in pseudo code:
<loop through everything> if RecID does not exist in LEFT but exists in RIGHT add new item to LEFT if RecID does exist in LEFT but does not exist in RIGHT
why this code the number i add not expected what i want?
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim com As New OleDbCommand Dim d As Integer Dim qty1 As Integer
I want to build a metronome, which sounds a beep in a specified time interval. The beep has to sound exactly the right time, after all, is a metronome.I need a timer that runs events(tick event)accurately. The timer control is not for this.
I set the value in VBT as 1.205, but if i print that value in Immediate window it get changed to 1.20492553710938. I need to display the value, whatever i have set.
what is the problem here and the solution to get the value whatever i have set?
Every sample code I've ever found for drawing rounded rectangles using GDI+ goes something like this (lifted and slightly modified from BobPowell.net):
Private Sub Panel1_Paint(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As PaintEventArgs) Handles Panel1.Paint e.Graphics.Clear(SystemColors.Window) e.Graphics.SmoothingMode = SmoothingMode.None
[code]....
This produces a rounded rectangle where only the top left corner is accurate.AntiAliasing has to be turned off because it is going through a remote desktop connection, and I can't depend on it being available. Besides, I am looking for a crisp rounded rectangle.I've tried resizing the other corners and changing the pen alignments, but nothing seems to produce a simple, accurate rounded rectangle. Is there a way to draw a better rounded rectangle than this in good old winforms?
I am currently using Decimal, thus far I have not checked thoroughly if it will have any inaccuracies so I wish to know from your experiences what is the best variable type for calculations, it would mainly be for areas.
look at this class and say why it's just returning just the first row in the second query, the issue is that the Salary is showing the right value when debugging, but when deployed to IIS it's just returning the 1st row

I'm using the code below to send large strings (500kB) to a server. I'd like to show the upload speed and in order to do that, I need to calculate the amount uploaded every second.
In a Timer that fires every second I get the BytesUploaded, divide it by 1024 in order to get KiloBytes (kB/s) and show it to the user. Then I set BytesUploaded to 0 and one second later do the same process.
The uploading is done asynchronously and the size of the data is added to BytesUploaded at once. This means that BytesUploaded is not being updated in a constant flow and has a totally different value almost every second.
when i type the number in textbox3, why the number update to database not accurate ?
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim com As New OleDbCommand Dim qty As Integer Dim d As Integer = 0
I am currently creating a program to send keystokes to a program at certain intervals. I need the thread to delay between keystrokes, and i need to be able to have the user input the amount of delay from the GUI via textbox. I have it running perfect with Thread.Sleep(), but it just isn't consistent enough. How can I code it to be accurate to roughly 5ms up or down? thanks, and here is the code. This is in VB 2010 by the way.
is it possible to draw an accurate circle in vb.net with mouseDown and mouseUp boundaries? I only manage to create circle-settings with rectangular boundaries using DrawEllipse. I've tried to work around it using pythagoras but it just doesn't work and I'm pretty sure I've got my maths right...
Is it possible to define a circle with DrawEllipse(pencil,x1,y1,width,length) ?
I am in the process of designing a computer control program to control a HF communications receiver (radio), and have found a problem with the Serial port. I am using VB Express Edition 2008. This module of the program is supposed to take an input string from another part of the program, format it, break it into 4 bytes, and send it to the radio in hex form via COM port 1. The problem comes in when you try to enter a frequency with an 8 or a 9 in it. The 8 or 9 is usually replaced by 45, ex.-input 9900, receiver tune 4545. The exact same thing happens with 8's, input 8800 and receiver tune 4545. All other numbers other than 8 or 9 work fine. The strange part of it is that sometimes the 8's and 9's work, and work correctly. For instance, 900, 1900, 2900, 3900, 4900, 5900, 6900, and 7900 all work correctly. This led me to believe that is may only be when the 8 or 9 is in the first position, but that is not the case, it also shows up in other positions as well. All other frequencies that do not have 8 or 9 in them also work. I ran into this same problem with VB Express 2005, and worked on it for weeks before giving up and going back to VB6.0. This same module (with exception of the port open command) runs flawlessly under VB6. I have even tried importing the MSCOMM control from VB6, but it gives the same results. In de-bugging mode, all of the inputs, decimal and hex seem to be correct, so the problem must come in after you click the command button, but before it leaves the COM port.
I need an accurate timer to interface a Windows application to a piece of lab equipment.I used System.Timers.Timer() to create a timer that ticks every 10 msec, but this clock runs slow. For example 1000 ticks with an interval of 10 msec should take 10 wall-clock seconds, but it actually takes more like 20 wall-clock sec (on my PC). I am guessing this is because System.Timers.Timer() is an interval timer that is reset every time it elapses. Since it will always take some time between when the timer elapses and when it is reset (to another 10msec) the clock will run slow. This probably fine if the interval is large (seconds or minutes) but unacceptable for very short intervals. Is there a function on Windows that will trigger a procedure every time the system clock crosses a 10 msec (or whatever) boundary?
UPDATE: System.Timers.Timer() is extremely inaccurate for small intervals.I wrote a simple program that counted 10 seconds several ways:
Interval=1, Count=10000, Run time = 160 sec, msec per interval=16 Interval=10, Count=1000, Run time = 16 sec, msec per interval=15 Interval=100, Count=100, Run time = 11 sec, msec per interval=110 Interval=1000, Count=10, Run time = 10 sec, msec per interval=1000
It seems like System.Timers.Timer() cannot tick faster that about 15 msec, regardless of the interval setting.Note that none of these tests seemed to use any measurable CPU time, so the limit is not the CPU, just a .net limitation (bug?)For now I think I can live with an inaccurate timer that triggers a routine every 15 msec or so and the routine gets an accurate system time. Kinda strange, but...I also found a shareware product ZylTimer.NET that claims to be a much more accurate .net timer (resolution of 1-2 msec). This may be what I need. If there is one product there are likely others.
I need to manipulate an external edit control from with in my program. (IE: Get new text whenver it's being enter into edit control and parse the infomation in my program). So, is it possible to create an edit control in my program that base on the handle of an existing application using win32 api or something
I am running into trouble with some code I am doing for an assignment. The section within the apostrophes (If Then Else) is the section that I am having trouble with. When the user selects a seat type and then clicks the compute button, the wrong cost is displayed instead of an accurate cost.
Option Strict On Public Class frmTickets
Private Sub btnComputeCost_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnComputeCost.Click Dim intNumberOfTickets As Integer
In a partial class, I declare a integer. Then, depending upon if a criteria is met, I set it's value to either 1 or 0. Then, I try and compare the set value, but instead of it being equal to 1 or 0, the code behind that I've stepped thru shows it ends up equaling &H0 or &H1. What does that mean? Why does it show a value of &H0 in the code behind when I debug instead of either a 0 or a 1???
First my prog scan a specific path "C:music" which contain Mp3. Then it takes the MD5# of all mp3 and put it in a listbox1. Also on the formload it does open a ".txt" which also contain MD5# that goes into listbox2.Now this is what i am looking to have :When i click my button it compare each line of my listbox1 to listbox2. If , for exemple , the first line of listbox1 is already in the listbox2 then it delete the first line of listbox1 (listbox1.items.removeat(0)). And Do until listbox1.items.count = "0".
I am trying to carry out a synchronisation of two databases: one on the server and the other on a local machine. So that even when they are not connected on the network, the local database can carry on accepting data but when the network is back on, the local database can update the server and the server can also update the local machine with data it accepted during the time when the network was off. by first comparing two tables in two databases and then if they are any differences the updating begins and i've since been stuck.
Private Sub btnCompareTables_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnCompareTables.Click 'dont know which arguments to put when calling this function 'How do i tell the computer which databases to compare Comparing()
(Each line is a record but if needed I can combine them all to one record)I have the document before changes in one table and the document after the change in another table. My problem is that if I just compare them by ID then I'll get many more changes than actually occured. Ex: If a line (/record) was added between record 2 and record 3, instead of tracking 1 change I will see that all the records from 3 and on have changed (because they will be pushed off by one record). Can be also something which knows to compare documents and I'll take the information out to document for comparison.
Let me provide a little detail to explain what I'm trying to accomplish before I get into the nuts and bolts of the question. I've got two data sources - one is a SQL Server containing part numbers, descriptions, etc. The other is a CAD system that does not have a database in a traditional sense. What I'm trying to do is read out the bill of materials from the SQL Server and compare it to the CAD assembly drawing to ensure that the CAD system contains the same information as the SQL Server.
Getting the data from the SQL Server is fairly straight forward. I query the database and populate a datagrid. Done. Quick. Easy.Getting the data from the CAD system is a little more involved. I have to load the assembly drawing to get a listing of all the component parts and then load those individual drawings to pull the "Part Number" property from the drawing. This is a somewhat time consuming and slow process (unfortunately) since each of the files must actually be accessed. I load those properties into an array (I guess a list might be more efficient).
So now I have a datagrid and array with part numbers. I need to compare them and colorize the grid accordingly. The grid should remain transparent if the part exists in both, color the row yellow if it only exists in the grid, and add a row colored red if only in the array.
As best I can tell, this means looping through the array on each line of the grid. The thought process is this:Default the grid to yellow rows.Loop through the grid and loop through the array to compare. If a match is found, make the row transparent and delete the element from the array. After step 2 is completed, the array should only contain elements that are not found in the grid. Resize the array to remove the empty elements.Add the elements of the array to the grid and color those new rows red.The problems with this logic is that it seems expensive from a performance standpoint. Surely there is a better method? Also, if I modify the grid in some manner (like a resort) I have to go through the process again.
I found a ruler control that I need to use in my project, but I have no idea about C#, I used a tool to translate this code to VB, but it still having errors.[code]...
