How To Make Number Go In Sequence
Jun 28, 2011New to programming completely,on VB 10 Express. I am in the process of creating a keypad which I can punch in numbers 1- 9 to enter a password. I have 9 buttons for the numbers. I've got the keys to print the numbers into the textbox above but when I press a second key it replaces the first number in the text box.
My question is, how do I make the numbers go in sequence, so instead of
(Press 1) - 1 -
(Press 2) - 2 - (clears 1)
I want it to go like
(Press 1) - 1 -
(Press 2) - 12 -
and so on...

Timer - Counts A Number Up In Sequence In A Label
Feb 9, 2009I have a timer that basically counts a number up in sequence in a label. On the On Text Change sub for the label I have functions run when the label is at a specific number. Everything works fine, the only problem I have is I have information pulled from an ODBC link to a pervasive database every second, which slows down the program. I have several flash components that run so slowly because of the data update. Now I have tried both using a dataset and coding the query but it is still ver slow and processor intensive, I think its because the Pervasive ODBC link is somewhat slow. Is there a way to have my data pull timer run in the background so that it doesnt effect the performance of the rest of the program?

Apr 18, 2012I'm trying to write a function which obtains the sequence_number by counting the records in a table that fit a particular criteria and if the result is 0 or nothing sets a variable to 1 but if the result is 1 for instance, the variable will be set to 1 + 1.
This is the code i'm using but i'm not getting the correct result when results are actually returned. For instance, if the result of count is 1, i want "seq" to equal 1 and total (which represents the sequence # assigned to the next record which is entered with the same plan and date) would therefore be 2 which is the result of seq + 1 (i.e. 1 + 1)

Oct 12, 2010I once posted a question on generating a policy number by table ID and user selctions from comboboxes. [URL]FYI . I am doing my project in vb, that why i posted it here. I managed to do that when i choose a region and product from two different comboboxes i generate a number but now my problem is that whenever i click on the comboboxes a policy number is generated before i save the record, so if my previous nummber was 72100002 whenever i click on the product combobox i generate a number e.g if i click on it five times by the time i save the number would be 72100007. I am using a stored procedure for this. Is there another way of doing this or i might end up with my first record as 72100001 and my second record 72100006.

Aug 2, 2009I have an application that is made for a game that you have to draw cards for. So what I have done is created a random number generator that generates a random number and then using case statements that number is associated with a picture of the card, which is displayed in a picture box. This part works fine. Each time I draw a card it is not reshuffled so I need to store the random number generated and then if that number is generated again ignore it an generate a new number.
Now to complicate matters even further when a certain card is drawn the entire deck is reshuffled and everything starts over again. Here is what I tried... I tried using arrays to store the numbers but I cannot seem to get it to search the array for the number or store the number properly within the array. The array has to be dynamic since the game is expandable and I will be adding more cards to the game in the future.
