C++ - Using DLL Import/Declare With Parameter Types Not Used By .NET?
Jun 25, 2010I am working on a project where I have to import a DLL file into a VB project that was created a few years back. The DLL was created in C++, and looks like:
void CoordinateConversionService::convert( SourceOrTarget::Enum sourceDirection, SourceOrTarget::Enum targetDirection, CoordinateTuple* sourceCoordinates, Accuracy* sourceAccuracy, CoordinateTuple& targetCoordinates, Accuracy& targetAccuracy )
I am an intern at my job, and I haven't had to use this yet, so my understanding is extremely limited, along with my usage of VB (I'm a C++/C# guy). Here are a few questions:
1) Looking at Dllimport, it seems like the last part outside of the parameters is a return type. Example code from another site:

ByRef nSize As Integer) As Boolean
Is "As Boolean" the return type? If so, I tried using "Sub" and it says "Keyword does not name a type." Hence why I looked into declare, because it seems I CAN return void/sub as a return type.
2) Trying to use the types "CoordinateTuple" and "Accuracy" give me problems, saying that they aren't defined. How do I get around this since I don't think I can really define them, and what about the fact that they're pointers?
Possible To Make List Box Item Height For Item Depending On Amount Of Lines That Item Contains?
Jan 1, 2012I have a list box on the form which functions as a copy/paste. When you copy something, it is automatically added to the list box as a "clipboard helper". Here is the problem,however: if the text is more than 1 line, the list box does not show all the text.It ends up looking messy.So getting back to my question, is it possible to make the list box item height for an item depending on the amount of lines that item contains?This is a one line sentence in the list box and should take up one line.This is a multi line sentence in the list box and should take up two lines for item height.

May 25, 2012Regarding my college project. i'm working on a sales system . i have a form which consist of all the following information( item code , item name , item price , quantity of item ) which is display using a data grid . data input by user using text box and all this information will be stored in a database(sales database) i'm using ms access 2007. the grand total will be displayed in a text box . and amount paid will be input in a text box too , my major problem now is how to i create a reciept that will have all this information of the purcase. i have a reciept button . what the next step ? i dont have any idea how to get the reciept done.

VS 2008 Declare A List(of T) (or List(of <anonymous Type>))?
Jan 7, 2010Ok i'm trying to declare a global list of type T (or is it <anonymous type>) i declare it in a module with something like Friend query As New List(of {whatever type i try}) the app takes some xml and parses it into a list but i need this list available to other classes and methods within the app, everything i have tried fails resulting in an error like Value of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List(Of <anonymous type>)' cannot be converted to 'System.Collections.Generic.List(Of {whatever type i try})'.
What would be the correct way to declare a list of this type? is there another way i could do this?
Adding An Item To A List Control On Another Form From A Different Thread?
Apr 25, 2012I've got a TCP Listener running on a separate thread. I want to have it log the incoming and outgoing messages in a list on the form instead of in message boxes. I've been reading about multiple threads, and I know there's something extra I need to do because form controls are not thread safe.
Unfortunately I've tried several tutorials on delegates and invoking but it still doesn't seem to insert the log items to the list. I even spent $60 on this Mastering Visual Basic 2010 book to "Build Rich Client and Web Applications with Visual Basic", but there isn't a single chapter on how to handle multiple threads.

Nov 22, 2010there's a list-box with items, and say you want to modify an item in the middle of the list. You select that item and click "Modify" button and a new form appears with the previously selected item data from first form ready to be modified in a text-box. After modifying and clicking Ok the second form suppose to return that modified string to the first form and insert the modified string into the same spot instead of the originally selected item, so it looks like it was edited to the user.

Feb 12, 2011I'm having some difficulty with a sorted & grouped listbox in WPF vb.net 3.5 that has an items source bound to an ObservableCollection.
What I want to be able to do is to retrieve a piece of data from the ObservableCollection items source depending on what item in the listbox the user has selected.I've almost got it working but because the listbox is sorted it does not match the index of the items source.

Every line in the text file ends with "a)" or with "g)".
Now I just want to make 3 radio buttons:
- one that will allow the download in the combobox only the item ending with "g)"
- one that will allow the download in the combobox only the item ending with "a)"
- one that will allow the download in the combobox of both (I already know how to do).
How can I do so?

Jan 14, 2010I have a program that uses two forms. The program opens to the Main form, and the user can navigate to the other form from the Main form through use of a button. Here's the way I've currently written it: When the Main form loads, it declares and instantiates the other form during the load procedure. When the user presses a button, the second form is displayed by means of the ShowDialog method. On the second form, there is a Return to Main Screen button which closes the second form, bringing the user back to the Main form.
So, here's the structure of the code:

Here's my reasoning: Originally, I wrote the code so that a new instance of the second form was created every time the button was pressed. The problem was that whatever data was displayed on the second form, previously, was lost when the user returned to it a second time. Since the user would be switching back and forth between these forms, frequently, I needed that data to persist.
What is the best practice for accomplishing this:
1) Declare and instantiate the second form on program start, as I have done, and use the button simply to show the form?
2) Declare and instantiate the second form each time the button is pressed but maintain the variables on the Main form and pass them ByRef to a custom constructor for the second form? Is this even possible?
3) Something else?

When you select it, you can hit enter new order and be transported to the Order Details screen to enter the new order.
What I wanted to do was to create a new list box (lbOrderId). What I want is to be able to select a person from lbMatchingAccounts and have all their Orders populate in lbOrderId.

[code] The code seems to work great until I come to the else statement.When the code finds a match it displays the picture box and the msgbox without error, but as soon as the message box is cleared, even though i've input it as an ELSE statement, the picturebox goes false again.Does anyone have any idea of how I can "hold" the picturebox to stay visible while the match between the arrays exists?
