Add A String Item, Returned From Another Form To A List Box At A Specific Spot In Place Of Another?
Nov 22, 2010
there's a list-box with items, and say you want to modify an item in the middle of the list. You select that item and click "Modify" button and a new form appears with the previously selected item data from first form ready to be modified in a text-box. After modifying and clicking Ok the second form suppose to return that modified string to the first form and insert the modified string into the same spot instead of the originally selected item, so it looks like it was edited to the user.
I'm trying to copy an array starting at a specific based on the number of variables I have. I have the program give me the number of variables. What I need is to copy the original array, UnsortedArray, start at the index of var + 1. I have tried the Array.Copy and Array.CopyTo, but I get the error that my new array, UnsortedNumArray, is used before it has a value.I know I've mostly overlooked something. Could you please point me in the right direction? [code]
I have kind of a wierd situation: To start out, I have a list of strings. Then the user will give input and add list items. I have this^ part done. What I need to do now is the following: There are two buttons; button1 and button2 There is also something else that I still need to decide on (maybe a dropdown menu) I want button1.click to show openfiledialogue1, the user will pick a text file from their computer (I also need to know how to make the only file they can select text files) and then save the file's text to a string. The text will be made up of multiple lines of an unknown number.

anyways, i want to simulate a click in a specific spot of this browser ... lets say i want to click the upper part of the webpage . how will i do that ? i actually searched but i found only click given the coordinates of the desktop or things like this but nothing for giving coordinated to your program and that will click INSIDE your browser
I seem to have a huge issue right now trying to grab different pieces of a string to place them in a different order in a list. Unfortunately i can't just find the placeholders for the strings and extract the data that way so i was using indexOf to find commas in the string provided. the problem i'm having is that i can assign the first comma and extract 0 - "," but i'm stuck on how to progress the indexof so it will move through the string submitting everything between the comma's.

I've worked out how to create a DropDownList using the following code: <select id="salesPersonDropList" runat="server"></select> In my .aspx page, then my code behind loops through database output running:
Dim newListItem As ListItem newListItem = New ListItem("Title", "Value") salesPersonDropList.Items.Add(newListItem )
What I can't figure out is how to programatically set which of the List Items created is the one to be pre-selected in the rendered DropDownList, ie, how to create what I'd write in HTML as:
I am trying to write this program that logs into this website. Now I figured out how to make the http "POST" request to the specific spot on the page which returns a "Successfully logged in" afterwards but once I make a request to another part of the page, it asks me to login (I look at the source code). I have been messing with Fiddler and I compared the a POST from my webbrowser to a POST from my program. I found the following lines to be in my browser POST and not in my program post:

I am assuming this has something to do with the cookie that I am suppose to get to be able to tell the website that I am logged in. If someone could point me in the right direction that would be great. I dont use XMLHTTPREQUEST in my program. I found it earlier on the msdn website but now I cant find a reference to it.I am also not good with term names and I just started learning VB and don't know much about cookies/HTTP requests and such, but that is why I am trying to learn.
I'm using a list box with multiple selections to add to my string -- I can't figure why my conditional doesn't seem to work. Every selection in the list box is intended to add specific literal to the string I'm building. What am I doing wrong See my code:
'special conditions strScopeParagraph &= "Some special conditions which will require specific attention are:" 'strScopeParagraph &= ControlChars.Cr
I am trying to get each item in a list box into a string array. However, I keep getting an index error and I am not sure why. I am doing this so i can perform a LINQ on the array.
Error:InvalidArgument=Value of '16' is not valid for 'index'.Parameter name: index
I'm having a problem recently, a logical issue so hard to determine various examples.I need the text that is inserted in textbox, which has been altered or modified or twisted to have a proper format through line accordance and constant white spaces etc. And some cases I stuck at defining the If statement within the loop. Here's an example of a text I'm trying to reformat.[code]I'm using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate version with Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio. This code is being fired on mouse click event of a button control. This is a snippet of my code there are more filtering after but here is what should be changed.
Function runs fine on the listbox until i use the btnUp_Lanemgr click event
throws an exception in function (below in bold) "Unable to cast object of type system.string to type namespace.myitem"
what i can do to make this work?
'Button moves selected listbox item up Private Sub btnUp_Lanemgr_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnUp_Lanemgr.Click
I'm having issues with finding something in list, and removing the item, ignoring the case of characters in string.
The code goes: Dim listItems As New List(Of String) Dim pattern As String = "AbC" Dim array() As String array = {"ABC", "abc"} listItems.AddRange(array)
Here I'd like to remove all items from listItems, that are abc, no matter what case single characters of item are, including mixed case items. So in this example, every items should be removed listItems.Remove(listItems.Find(Function(r) r = pattern))
If I change pattern to match the case of item, then item #2 gets removed: pattern = "abc" listItems.Remove(listItems.Find(Function(r) r = pattern)) How can I find item in listItems, ignoring the case characters in pattern?
I have a list box on the form which functions as a copy/paste. When you copy something, it is automatically added to the list box as a "clipboard helper". Here is the problem, however: if the text is more than 1 line, the list box does not show all the text.It ends up looking messy. So getting back to my question, is it possible to make the list box item height for an item depending on the amount of lines that item contains? This is a one line sentence in the list box and should take up one line. This is a multi line sentence in the list box and should take up two lines for item height.

I've got a TCP Listener running on a separate thread. I want to have it log the incoming and outgoing messages in a list on the form instead of in message boxes. I've been reading about multiple threads, and I know there's something extra I need to do because form controls are not thread safe.
Unfortunately I've tried several tutorials on delegates and invoking but it still doesn't seem to insert the log items to the list. I even spent $60 on this Mastering Visual Basic 2010 book to "Build Rich Client and Web Applications with Visual Basic", but there isn't a single chapter on how to handle multiple threads.
I am trying to have the index value of a selected item in a combobox returned to a variable. Then, if the variable = 1 (which would be the index of th second item in the combobox), I want a groupbox to be hidden (be invisible) on the form. Here is my code...Getting an error that says:
'ListIndex' is not a member of 'System.Windows.Forms.ComboBox'
Code: Private Sub cbxAccounts_SelectedIndexChanged(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Dim selection As Integer = CInt(cbxAccounts.ListIndex) If selection = 1 Then gbxCheck.Hide() End Sub

I need to get a string from an items collection in a list box on one form to a list box on another form in VB 2008. Here is the code (I've tried a couple ways in the code to get the values over).

The process I currently use to insert a string into a text file is to read the file and modify it as I write the file out again which seems to be how everyone is doing it.
Since .net has such a diverse library I was wondering if there was a specific command for inserting a string at a specific line in a txt file.
I would imagine it would look something like this:
dim file as file file.open("filePath") file.insert(string, location) 'this isn't actually an option, I tried
I have a radio button control on a web form. The members of my ListItem collection are assigned the following.
Text No Value 0
Text Yes Value 1
So what I need to do, is to readd a varchar value from my database and if the column value returned equals 'Yes' then I need to select the radio button that has the assigned value of 1. Otherwise if the value read from the database is 'No', then I need to select the radio button assigned a value of 0
So how can I set the value for my radio button? I experimented and could not figure it out. The 'Yes' or 'No' value is stored in my database in the field ds.Tables("employee").Rows(0).Item("answer")
So I tried something like this which is not correct:
