I am developing a Windows Service in VB.NET. I have added a two new .xsl files in my project.
My problem is that file: how can I insert that file into a particular string?
Dim CTD As String = ??
I need to call that CTD.xsl in the above line of code.
My current issue which I've been stumped on is incrementing variable names in a string.
Without reading my actual situation, I need to know if you there is a way to do the following:

The reason for my label1 example above is I believe that using my current methodology- if there is a way to convert a string contents to a variable name, it should do the trick.
i'm dealing with a variable of the type string, in a "select case" code; if the string in it was "5a6-Hor" then some calculatins will be made. the problem is that the value would be "5a6", but the case related wont be applied(the compiler isnt reding it as "5a6"), although i had a msgbox showing the value of the string as "5a6", as was defined under form_load event here is the code:

So I'm sending text with the program launchy this .vbs (addln.vbs) - ("$$" c:ideas.txt) is what the argument is if I want to send to ideas.txt for example All I want to do is make it so I get the date and time right before whatever text I send to this text file. I am a newbie programmer. I have some code that needs to open a file based on what is contained in a variable. Example: If File.Exists(w) Then Dim q() As String = IO.File.ReadAllLines(w)
The problem is that I need the variable "w" , after readallLines , to have a .txt extension. I tried this:
IO.File.ReadAllLines(w & ".txt") but that doesnt work.
I have a config.txt file that has the following lines in it.

I have a structure named StudentData, it consists of a studentname, an array of testscoresand the student average. There is also an array of structure objects for a total of 6 students. I have the header, column heads, the student names and the averages printing when I click the print page event. I have tried multiple ways of setting this up to get the test scores to print, these are the structure array variables. When I put in the code to process the arrays testscores, I receive a run time error that I don't understand
View 2 RepliesWhile working with an excel file (.xlsx), the data I get from it is an IEnumerable(of Dictionary). When I bind this to my datagrid, I get the problem that I only see 2 columnsI've been tracing this problem and discovered that in the first row in the excel, there are only 2 values (cell C and D). I think the binding to datagrid looks at this first row to create its headers. This results in my datagrid only showing columns C and D.

View 12 RepliesIt's become a night mare. All day today I have been trying to tell the hex contents of the bytes in a string. In this case Im attentpting to detect a VBCRLF. In the debugger this in displayed as a " " and thats it no matter how I have to setting set.It makes it difficult doesn't it? The thing is that debuggers are quite capable of displaying adresses, of course this is only relevant to systems that do not change virtual addresses (which Windows does not)only physical addresses.Why is it impossible to see the values of a vbcrlf (0D0A) in a string? I have nine pictures that I need to animate -I need to use the ToString method and a counter to concatenate a file name into a string variable from the Image.FromFile method. Once the counter reaches its maximum value, and the last picture is displayed, the counter should be reset to zero or one depending on how the first image file has been name. Also a static counter variable should be incremented in the time routine. what I have so far -- I know what I have to do; however, I just do not know how to code this properly.. Right now I have this going thru a button procedure but it needs to go through a timer.

I use VB .NET 2002 (academic version) I have created an MS Access database to be populated with vaules extracted from dBase files. Some numerical values can be null - ie where no data was recorded in the dBase file. Relevant field properties in MS Access mdb table are set to "Not Required" as follows - dt0 is the name in code of the Access table "AllData":

Using an INSERT INTO command I can send a null value to the field:

My problem is how to pass a variable which sometimes takes the value System.DBNull.
If I use SQLMdb = "INSERT INTO [AllData]" " ([Date],[Ch1Deg])" & _
" VALUES ('" & dDate1 & "','" & dDeg & "')
Then when dDeg is numeric then there is no problem and the table is populated. When data is missing and dDeg takes the value System.DBNull then it's a no go! The error message is "Data type mismatch in criteria expression."
Is there a way round this with VB .NET 2002 or do I need to upgrade to a later version which has nullable data types, eg nullable integers and doubles etc?
