I am inserting the nChar type value into sql db using the vb.net. Its simple insert query but i dont know why not inserting into db.

Its my first time playing with the sql compact edition. I am noticing a difference vs char fields in a normal sql database. I was wondering if someoen can explain to me how to get the 2 to work the 'same'...Here is my issue I am having.
View 2 RepliesI am trying to edit a dbf table. I would like to be able to rename field headings and change the field type, ie string or dbl, and the size of the field. is this possible to do with vb.net. I have connected to the dbf file but after that am lost on what to do.
View 3 RepliesI am pulling data from a local MSSQL database using a stored procedure, then send the data to a web service. Every part of the component works well except for a pesky problem will a DBNull being returned from the DataRow field, when I know that the field is not null and has valid data. The database and associated INSERT statements that add to this field are designed to not allow NULL entries. When I debug break the program on or right before the line that throws the error I see that the field has valid data for the current row.If I add a null check to the code (as below) the operation continues as normal:
Dim dataResultsTable = Me.myViewTableAdapter.GetData(int)
For Each myDataRow In dataResultsTable.Rows
If worker.CancellationPending Then
[code]....
Why is the read operation returning DBNull instead of the data in the database?
EDIT: Just to be clear, the operation does return the proper data, but the data is not being saved into the variable.
switching our database over to UTF-8 (multi-byte char, unicode) encoding from IBM819 (single-byte char, Latin1 subset), because of a new requirement to support text entry of Czech characters.I've just been reminded by a colleague of the nchar and nvarchar column types, which neither of us has actually ever used.
If I were to define the relevant columns as nchar and nvarchar instead of char and varchar, what would I have to do to allow my currently-IBM819 database to work with this new IBM819-incompatible text coming in from my .net application?Would all conversion be automatic? Would I need to write some scary conversion code?
EDIT: Right, I defined an "nchartest" table containing a single column, "ntest" of type nchar(500).I connected to that via .net code and confirmed that 500 chars of lorem ipsum could be entered:
Dim insertString As String = "INSERT INTO nchartest VALUES (?)"
Dim insertCommand As New IfxCommand(insertString, cConnection, tTransaction)
insertCommand.Parameters.Add("incident_recno", IfxType.NChar).Value = "[lipsum]"
Return insertCommand.ExecuteNonQuery
I then replaced the lipsum string with 100 or so chars of Czech text, and attempting to insert that caused an IfxException to be thrown by the .net Informix interface, with the message ERROR [HY000] [Informix .NET provider]Unspecified System Error = -21005.
Following up on some research I did yesterday, I tried setting my CLIENT_LOCALE setting in my connection string to en_US to match that reported by Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.CurrentUICulture, but that connection could not be opened due to ERROR [HY000] [Informix .NET provider][Informix]Unable to load locale categories.
Following that, I tried setting CLIENT_LOCALE=en_US.unicode, which produced an ERROR [HY000] [Informix .NET provider][Informix]Unspecified System Error = -31142.
Is it possible that i would only want to insert one field from a table into another table?

View 2 RepliesUsing MS Access 2007 GUI, I created an append Query, as I always have since version 2003, where I am trying to append records froma a temporary to a master table, all fields match, and keep getting the message:The INSERT INTO statement contains the following unknown field name: <field name>. Make sure you have typed the name correctly, and try the operation again.(Error 3127)
View 2 RepliesHere is hte code I'm using to insert into my database:[code]I believe it is Cell 4 that is causing the exception, because it is a checkbox column and i'm not sure what syntax to use to store the "CheckedState" of it.Yes, I know I should be using parameters, but I don't know how yet, and I would like to make the INSERT statement work before implementing the paramater approach with it.
View 5 RepliesIf I need to set the value of a checkbox (threestate) inside of an INSERT command, what would the syntax be? I've tried 'True' but that fails and I can't think of another way to do it.
View 3 RepliesI am getting an error when trying to access an access database through oledb. The problem is it is saying "The INSERT INTO statement encountered an unknow field name Node Name". I though it might be because the column names contain spaces so I put brackets around them but same issue. I know I am typing it right.[code]

I am not sure if this should be in the SQL or vb.net section. But, Basically I have a vb.net application from where I insert a datetime field into the SQL Server Database. Now for some reason the SQL server field(which is datetime) will not display AM/PM, I have referred this link where my code looks like this:
Dim dateToDisplay As DateTime = DateTime.Now dsNewRow.Item("date_created") = dateToDisplay.ToString("MM.dd.yyyy hh:mm:ss tt")
I tried stepping into the code by debugging and it seems to be inserting the PM but is not displayed in the table QuotedateToDisplay#8/12/2011 6:01:06 PM#Date

View 1 RepliesI have the following query that I use to create a new record in a database. If I leave any field on the form blank, for example, it throws the error "Memo.Lastname" cannot be a zero length string. Other than that the query executes appropriately.

I've been staring at this and can't seem to come up with a solution. I've tried several different methods that i found on the web but to no avail. I'm hoping you all could take a look at the code below and give me some direction as to why I'm receiving the error "The INSERT INTO statement contains the following unknown field name: 'Deposit_Date' . Make sure you have typed the name correctly and try the operation again. Sorry if it's kinda jumbled below
Code:
Dim SQL As String = "INSERT INTO Deposits ( Deposit_Date, Deposit_Time, Location, Miscellaneous, " & _
"Miscellaneous_Adjustment, Dispense, Dispense_Adjustment, " & _
"Replacement_Card, Replacement_Card_Adjustment, Deposit, " & _

I have a form and stored procedure that inserts the data from the form. It works fine except that if a field isn't filled in it doesn't insert a NULL into SQL it inserts "".
I've tried a few different ways but none seem to insert NULL, the one below still inserts "", can anyone point me in the right direction?
Here is the required part of the code, if you require more just let me know.
Dim rdr As SqlDataReader
Dim cmdInsert As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand()
cmdInsert.CommandText = "spPersonalDetailsInsert"

So if I enter nothing into address1 field it should write NULL to screen but it always writes NOT NULL. What does an empty form field equal? in classic ASP it was always "".
How can I achieve this. Insert Null Value into SQL Server DateTime Field?
View 5 Replies.NET I want to clone a value type's fields. How can i set a field value on a value type using reflection (or something else dynamically)?
This works for reference types but not for value types. I understand why but I don't know an alternative.
