Java - Get Specific File Details Under Windows?
May 6, 2012
Which is the easiest way I could get the file details / properties under windows? I am not talking about common properties (such as file size, creation date), but the ones written by variuos software. In my particular case I need to get the detail called "Date taken" for a jpg image file.
I could use PHP,Java or VB.NET, whatever is easier.My final goal: I have a bunch of images I took with different versions of Android on my phone. They are all named with different naming convention, most of them just something like IMG_[consecutive_numbers].jpg. So I want to rename them all, but for that I need their original creation date, and since I have moved them from my pc to the phone and back so many times, I cannot trust the "creation date" property. I found that all of them have a property which was set by the camera called "Date taken", which is still intact and valid.

I have asked questions about this before but my program has came to cross roads where I require more flexibility in my security procedures.At the moment I generate a specific key based on certain details about the system, and I hash this data to file, which ensures it will only run on this system.
However it has now got to the point where I have a need for providing keys which will carry settings for the program within the key. So that if a customer wants an update its the matter of sending an updated key, which will allow certain areas of the program to be unlocked/locked.Obviously I can no longer use the hash, as it can't be decrypted. I am looking to use key encryption system, which will allow to encrypt data within a license key. But obviously it brings the problem of where to store Crypt & decrypt key within the program.

Under Visual Basic 2010, I am trying to define a specific instance of a static method that was created as a Java class. I have a vendor supplied dll added in as a reference.[code]...
But, I can't seem to define a specific instance of this method. Using "IntegrationMethod.getIntegrationMode()"always returns a value of zero.
There doesn't appear to be any way to "setIntegrationMode" to a specific value.
The documentatoin for this Class as provided by the vendor are shown below.
When I asked the vendor for assistance, their response was: "
Our javadocs for the IntegrationMethod class show that we provide three predefined instances of the IntegrationMethod class[code]...

What I am trying to do is I have a .dat file that I cannot read but can at the same time. What I mean is I know how to decipher it by hand (alas takes minutes per 6 parts and there are thousands.) I am trying to make an application that can read this and allow me to edit it from my computer. I can open this with a hex program such as hex editor neo. I am currently trying to get it so I can read the file and have it place corresponding parts in to text boxes that I can alter to suit my needs.
I am new to visual basic and know a tiny bit about C++ if you think I would be better off trying in C# I can try that as well I do know some since learning c++. There are 41 parts to each item listed in the file and each one would need to go in its own text box. In hex there are 348 blocks that need to be arranged in corresponding order. Also the beginning of the file has 6 block followed by a code for each item. I need to find a way to put all the correct code in the correct text box and have it make sense.

I've see this application which can dig out our User Name from somewhere and asks our password. To be on the safe side, I typed my wrong password and it could cross-check that it was a wrong password and it asked me to type the right password. My question is:
How do you dig out logged in user's User Name?
How do you verify if a password given matches with the one really used to log into windows?
How do we auto-login by providing these verified details you say at a specific time by regularly checking the time using a timer?

I'm trying to get a details view in ASP.NET to display the details of the logged-in user only. I have been told to use:
select * from STAFF where USERNAME = user.identity.name
I thought this was too simple to be true and I was correct as it shows no data when I attempt to run.

When I deployed my project on a server, in certain circumstances, I get an error page that indicates I should create a custom error page. I was wondering how exactly I would implement this custom error page the server asks for to give me a precise and helpful message or preferably, how I would get the error to just display on the main page?This is the error message I got below
Runtime Error
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.
Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".
<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
<configuration>
<system.web>
[code]....
Notes: The current error page you are seeing can be replaced by a custom error page by modifying the "defaultRedirect" attribute of the application's <customErrors> configuration tag to point to a custom error page URL.
<!-- Web.Config Configuration File -->
<configuration>
<system.web>

I wonder if it is possible to find a specific row and specific columns in data base file (Access) . You see , I am using a DataGridView control to show only SOME of the columns (fields) of a table from an Access file . For example , lets say that in the DataGridView control I only show the following fields :Field1 , Field2 and Field3 .Now , when the user selects an entry in the DataGridView control , I want to insert the text from Field4 into a text box on the form .
The problem , however , is that I don't know how to get the specific row in the data base file and also I don't know how to get the text in column (field) Field4 of that row .One thing that might be important is that the index of the row in the data base file is not necessarily the same with the index of the current row in the DataGridView control . This is because in the DataGridView control the rows are order by the contents in the ID Field .ol .

I need to be able to get the details of a m4a file (Title, artist, album) via a script so I can rename and move the files into a folder. Currently I have around 3200 songs that I accidentally renamed and moved to the root of my drive. I want to write a script to put them back into an organized file structure. Is there a way that I can do this using VB or Powershell?

I am in the process of developing a messaging framework for a windows application that sends messages to a java application. To be precise when the win app wants to send a message it simply drops the message in a common database table which will be picked up by the java app. The windows application is deployed across 10 application servers (10 instances) over citrix for load balancing.Each instance of the application is capable of sending a message to the java application and each of these messages should have a unique id. From my end I need to make sure every message generated has to carry a unique id so that they can be identified when necessary. All the messages can be cleared every day or two.i am not quite sure about a best method of achieving this. Initially I wanted to create a static method that serves the next available id (incrementing the last id by 1). But this approach willn't guarantee unique number as the application starts only when at least one user is logged on. For e.g .On one server the app starts when a user logs in, he then sends a message and then the application stops when that user logs off. So when a next request for the app comes to that server a new instance will be started.

I discovered that java uses a reversed way of storing data. For example, the integer value 2 has the following byte values:
In "Windows" format:
[2] [0] [0] [0]
In "Java" format:
[0] [0] [0] [2]
The binary readers of both languages seem to use the same different format. Now my question: What is the easiest way to read binary values (Integer, Single, etc.) in VB .NET from a java formatted file? I already made functions like these:

I've found all sorts of threads about extracting file icons, and I'm able to do that no problem, but I would like to also extract some other information from a file (like you can find in the properties window), such as the file description.
