I am working on vb.net win form. My task is display the file names from a folder onto gridview control. when user clicks process button in my UI, all the file names present in gridview, the corresponding file has to be loaded onto memory stream buffer one after another and append the titles to the content of the file and save it in hard drive with _ed as a suffix to the file name.I am very basic programmer. I have done the following attempt and succeeded in displaying filenames onto gridview. But no idea of later part.
'Displaying files from a folder onto a gridview
Dim inqueuePath As String = "C:UsersDesktopINQUEUE"
Dim fileInfo() As String

I'm using VB.Net, and I have a set of data which I have to able to filter through fairly quickly.Basically, the program is like google sugest, but instead of a drop-down menu, I'm using a listbox. When a user enters a word, I compare the word using LINQ and filter those that contain the user's input. The data are all strings of variable length (from 0 to 200 characters, most on 150 character mark), and I have 240,000+ of this strings and counting- all stored in an XML file.
A colleague of mine told me that loading all of that to memory (using VB.Net's XML serializer plus collections of string/objects) is not practical, and would slow the 'startup' time of the program. I haven't finished building the program yet and I'm having second thoughts about continuing this path.
So, my question is: Should I continue with my current approach on the problem (which is load everything to memory on startup), or is there a better way of solving my dilemma?

I have some questions about bitmaps and such. I am using the IDXSurfaceFactory::LoadImage Method to load an image and now I want to access its memory buffer, so I can do some direct memory manipulation and copy the content to another buffer afterwards (no BitBlit!). I managed to successfully use LoadImage, but I have no idea how to retrieve the pointer to the memory buffer and other informations. I want to basically know everything about, how and where the image is stored in the memory buffer.
Does windows always load images as BGR regardless of its original format? if not, how can I find out if the loaded image is stored as BGR or RGB. How can I find out how many bits each color has? How can I find out if the image is stored y-reversed? And if you load an indexed png for example, with one color marked as transparent, how can I find out which color is used for transparency?

In a DataGridview i want to show nearly 50,00,000 records. After data binding to the datagridview, I want to change some Values in some columns in each row. So, while Looping after some time i am getting the "System.Out of Memory error". How can i display data without getting this error. Is there any easy way to display large data in a datagridview.

I don't know whether it is simple or not because i am new to programming. my requirement is : In my vb.net winform application, the filenames of the files present in "D:Project" willbe displayed in DataGridView1 control. Now I want to load these files one after another into memory stream buffer and add the headers("ID","Name","Class") to the content in the file. Then I want to save these files in "C:" with "_de" as suufix to the filename i.e.,sample_de.csv.

Im getting a problem with one of my programs I have made in visual basic.NET where it gives me a memory error when i debug the program in the IDE. the exact error is this: "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt". My program basically has a few forms with text fields on that get their text values from an access database on the same hard drive. Im wondering if im doing something wrong because my program just seems to eat up memory whenever it does anything. For example I have one form that has a combobox on it and when you change the drop down list selection it retreives a few strings from the database and puts them into the relevant text boxes, if you keep changing the selection then the memory usage (in task manager) just keeps going up and up. occasionally I get the error mentioned above when debugging but in my built version of the program it throws an exception everytime the memory usage gets past 49K.
Also I noticed when debugging in the "immediate window" frame I get the following message often:A first chance exception of type 'System. Invalid OperationException' occurred in System.Data.dll...Do I need to somehow be "releasing" the memory that is used to gather data once it becomes redundant?

I have a BackgroundWorker object that I instantiated to perform a DB process on a background thread ansynchronously. I have event handlers for DoWork and RunWorkerCompleted. I can tell that the BackgroundWorker is disposing of itself because I added a message box into the Disposed event handler.Is it necessary to detach the event handlers to ensure that the memory is cleaned up and that there are not memory leaks?

I've noticed that every time I start a new thread in my program, the memory usage jumps about 1000k and it never goes back down. I have ensured that the thread is no longer running, and only one instance of my worker thread is ever running at a time. I am using ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem and ASyncOperation to get stuff done. The program starts using a Sub Main in a module that uses STAThread; I read that using STAThread instead of MTAThread makes it impossible for the Garbage Collector to get in and consider objects for garbage collection. However, when I change the STAThread to an MTAThread, the WebBrowser control in my frmMain cannot be instantiated.
I get this exception:
Code: An unhandled exception of type 'System.Threading.ThreadStateException' occurred in System.Windows.Forms.dll
Additional information: ActiveX control '8856f961-340a-11d0-a96b-00c04fd705a2' cannot be instantiated because the current thread is not in a single-threaded apartment. I do threading with the WebBrowser control, so will using MTAThread fix my problem? If so, how should I partition my code so that the WebBrowser control won't be affected by the above exception? I call the thread repeatedly with a timer (although only one instance ever runs at a time), and my program's memory usage starts at about 5000k and can jump to 300,000k+ depending on many times the thread needs to be called.

I cannot use Visual Basic 2008 at all. When I go to "new project" and choose "Windows Form Application" I get this error.I have tried multiple uninstall/reinstall with no result.A microsoft reply to this suggested that I needed: " .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 " I checked, and I did not have the .netframework 2.0 service Pack 1.
When I tried to download and install the above from Microsoft.com, the istaller said that "it was not allowsed" and I was not able to install the service pack 1.
I tried Uninstalling net framework 3.5, 3.0, 2.0 and then reinstalling .netframework 2.0 sevice pack 1; then reinstalling Visual basic 2008 express edition. At the reinstall of Visual basic 2008, .netframework 2.0 sevice pack 1 is unistalled by .net framework service pack 2.When I check the foruims for simiar problems, the formus are mostly for Visual basic 5.0, or other programs that I do not have.
Here is the programs I have installed:
Operating system: Windows XP
Microsoft .net framework 1.1
Microsoft .NET framwork 1.1 Hotfix(KB928366)
Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2
[code]....
All the security updates and hotfixes for Widows XP.

I need to create a way to dump the memory of a process to a file. And I don't mean a crash dump, I mean dumping the memory. In C++ you can use the function MiniDumpWriteDump.
Here is my code so far:
Public Declare Function MiniDumpWriteDump Lib "dbghelp.dll" (ByVal hProcess _
As IntPtr, ByVal ProcessId As Int32, ByVal hFile As IntPtr, ByVal DumpType _
As mydumptypes, ByVal ExceptionParam As IntPtr, ByVal UserStreamParam As _
IntPtr, ByVal CallackParam As IntPtr) As Boolean
Enum mydumptypes
[Code] .....
A file is created, however when I looked inside the file with a hex editor, it was complete garbage. For a test, I opened notepad, typed in "Hello!", and dumped the notepad process. I could not find any strings in it, let alone the "Hello!" string.
mydumptypes.normal =
MiniDumpWithDataSegs= 0x00000001,
in c++. It wasn't what I wanted. Anyways, I fixed it.

I'm currently coding a file reader for fixed-width tables in VB, and the compiled application seems to be sucking down memory like there's no tomorrow. I'm working with a series of ~50 megabyte files, but after running through several, the process starts taking up about 200+ megabytes of RAM, which is way more than it should.I've done some poking around, and I think the issue is the call to NewRow(), but don't take my word for it. Does anyone have some tips for optimizing this? If the problem's with the NewRow() call, is there a way of clearing this out? [code]

I am trying to programitally download a file from a https server, that uses cookies (and hence I'm using httpwebrequest). I'm debug printing the capacity of the streams to check, but the output [raw] files look different. Have tried other encoding to no avail.
Code:
Sub downloadzip(strURL As String, strDestDir As String)
Dim request As HttpWebRequest
Dim response As HttpWebResponse
request = Net.HttpWebRequest.Create(strURL)
request.UserAgent = strUserAgent
[Code].....
So I get the right size file downloaded, but dotnetzip does not recognise it, and the files that get copied out are incomplete/invalid zips.
