Jun 22, 2010The idea with this form is to add the futures which is calculated when the button is pushed but I need the list to update every time and show the values each time to which the previous value is added to the new calculation, e.g. of what it should look like in listbox:

I have been working on this a while and I am at a standstill, I was given a function to clear the form everytime it calculates but I don't know how to implement it, I am new to VB. Here is what I have so far:

But i am now trying to declare time however i keep getting an error because i cannot get the type correct. I tried the following but get the following error: "Conversion from type 'Timespan' to type 'integer' is not valid".

In my database the DeliveryTime type is set to Time(7) so i would assume there should be 'Time' which i could use to declare it, but there isnt. What is the correct type i should be using?

Dec 14, 2011I have a generic Class I'm using to hold information loaded from a database.I have a method which takes a DataRow as an argument, uses the object's known column name and extracts the data from the DataRow, such that:Dim loadData As T = CType(myDataRow("myColumnName"), T))works as my default assignment in most cases.Unfortunately, due to some horrifying design constraints, some of my columns may be null, and may also be taken from enumerations.This means that when <T> is Nullable(Of SomeEnumeration) the above code does not work because I can't cast 0 directly to SomeEnumeration.Zero.Is there some way to check whether <T> is Nullable(Of [Enum])? Or some way to write a method which allows Integers to be cast to Nullable(Of [Enum])?I feel like I'm forgetting something that would allow me to write one of the other of these, but my weak google-fu is turning up nothing.
EDIT: Okay, thanks to dasblinkenlight's answer below, I can detect when this circumstance is occurring, but what I need to do now is to take a type <T> which I know is Nullable(Of SomeClass), get a type reference to SomeClass and then create a new object of type Nullable(Of SomeClass) and assign that to LoadData.My problem was that I had a lot of difficulty in finding any function which would accept baseType as an actual Type.Parse accepted baseType as a parameter, I knew baseType was an [Enum] type because of dasblinkenlight's code, so I was, in this instance, able to code a solution. It's a solution which is very specific to my problem (i.e., T is Nullable(of SomeEnumeration)), but it's a solution nonetheless.

Jan 8, 2012I am not sure if I need to write an if statement or just add the line MsgBox("Update Succesful") but with doing that there is no actual check to see if any change has been made.
Unless, my code is in a Try Cast to catch any exceptions, could I add the line like I said above, then in "Catch as Exception" add the lines MsgBox("Update Failed" - ex.message)

Mar 25, 2010I keep getting the error shown in the screenshot below.To me it's saying that I haven't established the "UpdateCommand" property for the DataAdapter. However,I have established it as well as the "SelectCommand", "InsertCommand" and "DeleteCommand".All of these are created within a Class Module.I created a Class for the "tblControl" table that is is referencing. SQL Update Query Returns Error Message Saying Not All The Parameters Have Been Set?
Jul 8, 2010I'm trying to update an Access database by using an OLE connection, retrieving the information from textboxes where the user enters the new information.All the fields in my Access table are required fields, so I have validated that some info is entered in each one of the textboxes and that is the correct data type.But when I run the update query I get an error message saying something like values haven't been entered for some required parameters (my Visual Studio is the Spanish version, so I can't give the exact error message in English).The bit of code where the error occurs is inside the procedure called by my "Ok" button:

The table has 10 fields, and the data is read from the textboxes and stored in variables (campo1, campo2, campo3, etc.), which I'm then using in the "set" query command.
"id" is the first field from the selected row in the datagrid, which I'm sending as a parameter to the procedure called by the "OK" button.The error message shows at runtime, so I'm guessing it's something in the query. Am I writing it correctly?

What i want is that a certain message should be popped for a certain amount of time and then close (probably say 2 seconds or so). I tried doing it with message boxes but they do not close on their own as they are designed to be modal (to wait for user command ). i do not want to display the text in a textbox of listbox. Is there a certain way i could do this.

Sep 9, 2009I'm trying to time how long an operation takes in Visual Basic (VS 2008) but its not working. the code I have is as follows:

this is in an OnClick event, so what happens is that the user can click a menu item, and it goes and sends any changes it has to a database, and pulls down any new changes to a local data cache. This operation takes time, depending on how many changes are on the server and how many are cached locally. I've thought about making this a background task, so it doesn't draw away from the main app while it's running, but before doing that, I'd like to get an idea how long the operation takes. Since I can't exactly do a progress bar, I figured using the stopwatch would tell me how many ticks/milliseconds would occur between click, and when the "total synced" message comes up, but every time i run it and do an update the message always shows 0 ticks/ms. I don't think it's accounting for the delay, just from start to finish. Is there any way to make it so it detects a message popping up and times off that?
Have Same Type Message Structures From Live / Test Web Services?
Mar 17, 2009I have two separate web services, the first configured to extract data from a live database, the second from a test database.
When consuming these web services from an application the object returned is a MyMessageData class which is defined in the web service.
In the application I would like to instantiate a empty the MyMessageData (from the live web service) and then use a configuration setting to decide which web service to retrieve the actually data from.
This does not work for test because the application does not see the instantiated MyMessageData class from live as the same type as the MyMessageData that is returned from the test webservice. [code]....

Jan 6, 2011I am running VS 2010 Professional and have a solution with 3 VB projects in it. I can open the forms in 2 of the projects just fine but if I try to open any of the forms in the 3rd project I get a message saying "There is no editor available for .....Form1.vb. Make sure the application for file type (.vb) is installed". Everything was working fine last month and I could open any of the forms.
Again the problem is limited to just the 1 project in the solution.
