Oct 12, 2011Using a session variable in my VB.net site has been figured out just fine. I just need to get my welcome message to stay put on every page. I put the code and text box in my master page to allow the message to stay there, but my label with the user's name disappears when I click on a different page.
The session is still there because I have it set up to display the textbox to enter your code if the session is destroyed or not available for some reason.
my code is not allowing the First_Name and Last_Name of the user's session to show up? The problem is in the Page_Load but I thought I would throw in the whole master.vb file to show everything I have so far.

Gridview has capability to display error box to user which can be called from code behind. Apr 10, 2012I am developing an application that prompts an user for doing certain tasks in a form. What i want is that a certain message should be popped for a certain amount of time and then close (probably say 2 seconds or so). I tried doing it with message boxes but they do not close on their own as they are designed to be modal (to wait for user command ). i do not want to display the text in a textbox of listbox. Is there a certain way i could do this.

Dec 15, 2009I want to wait for and close a modal form (a popup) from another application, as soon as it appears. I want to do this from VB.NET, but suggestions in C# should be easily translateable.
I can hard-code the modal popup's caption in my app, since it's long and unique. What I want to do is simulate either the user clicking on the close ("X") button on the form, or a click on the defeault, tab-order 0 button of the form. Either would work.
Maybe I need more info about the modal popup other than the title bar's caption? In any case, it's safe to use it as an unique identifier of that modal form. I also want that code to terminate checking as soon as the first event of closing the popup happens.
I believe it's trivial, but I can't find any ready info on that. Microsoft says I should not send WM_CLOSE to the modal popup, since it will call DestroyWindow() instead of EndDialog(), but to be honest I don't even know what "sending WM_CLOSE" to the "window" means =/

Sep 1, 2011I know it's possible in asp.net to create a custom error page in a web app, by putting the following line in the web.config: <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="frmErrorPage.aspx" />
I have had to do this for my web app, since it is clearly much tidier than letting the program bomb out with it's ugly default error page. My custom error page just has the customer's logo and a brief message saying "Error has occurred. Please return to homepage"The trouble now is that I have no way of knowing what caused the error, when a customer reports it.
Is there a way to make the actual error message appear on this custom error page too?

Apr 25, 2011I am trying making a form to apear in the corner when a timer goes off. I have a loading function that loads all the times into arrays and sends it to a thread that runs a loop till todays date = date time. The problem I am having is I cant get the popup form to initialize properly. It either doesn't load the labels or background and the window is instantly unresponsive or it just blinks onto the screen and off before it does anything.
