View 4 RepliesMicrosoft's scripting languages (VBScript and JScript) have a POPUP method that allows you to control the time span a message box is displayed on screen before the message box closesI've searched but I do not believe that this functionality (i.e. ability to control the display time) is included in the VB 2008. If I'm wrong can someone point me in the right direction? If I am right and VB2008 only offers a standard message box, can anyone how they have created popup types of messages that only exist for a specified amount of time.
I have a situation where I would like to display an informational message box on screen when an event takes place but I don't want the user to have to acknowledge the event by having to press the OK button as the machine may or may not be attended at the time the message is displayed. If someone is present they can either acknowledge the event by pressing OK or simply waiting for the specified timeframe has elapsed.
I am writing a program that has to print an alert message in a textbox if the user inputs invalid data. Invalid data would be a negative number. The textbox is the same textbox as the result would be in provided they input valid data. Here is what I have but it will not print the alert.

View 3 RepliesI have a vb.net (VS 2005) application which downloads files from my webserver and shows its contents to user. And I make files at my end and upload files to webserver so that the application and download & process it. This happens at fixed intervals. Now I intent to send an instant alert (or message) to users who are using that application. For example: If I type a message and send "Hello everyone" then all those people who are currently using that product should get a popup with this message. My webserver is a hosted on a unix based system. It enables me to show html content and post files & stuff online.

I was just wondering if there was a way with, using VB.net, be able to create a program to detect when a message is received in Windows Live Messenger, and alert the user?Essentially, MSN is minimized in background and our program, Program A, is also running in backgroung.Friend X sends us a message, the MSN icon blinks as usualy, but also a window pops up and shows the name of the user and the message.I was just wondering if there was a way to connect to MSN in some fom to be able to do this?

If you open up a PDF file and select File > SaveACopy you'll see the Adobe acrobat SaveAs dialog that I'm working with. Typically I'm dealing with it when the PDF is showing in Internet Explorer (I'm automating PDF downloads by controlling the File > SaveAs option).
If the destination file already exists, the dialog will popup a tiny messagebox asking if I want to replace the existing file Yes or No. It is this popup that I'm trying to close, but I can't seem to find it. When I run enumWindows to get all the top level windows, it doesn't show up. That's probably because I can see, in Spy++, that it has a parent window (the Adobe SaveAs dialog box). So i tried running EnumChildWindows to get all the child windows of the Adobe SaveAs dialog - but the popup doesn't show up on this list either (I know this because I did a WM_GettText on each child window and nothing matched the tiny popup).
I'm not sure if FindWindow would do it - but i'm leery of that because, at least on my home computer, both the popup and the Adobe SaveAs window have the same title text, namely "SAVE AS" so i'm not sure which one it would find - in fact I seem to recall I tried that already.
I am trying making a form to apear in the corner when a timer goes off. I have a loading function that loads all the times into arrays and sends it to a thread that runs a loop till todays date = date time. The problem I am having is I cant get the popup form to initialize properly. It either doesn't load the labels or background and the window is instantly unresponsive or it just blinks onto the screen and off before it does anything.
View 1 RepliesI want to have a confirmation message box pop up when a user clicks the cancel button on a form. I believe this would be the correct javascript code:
function confirmation() {
var answer = confirm("Are you sure you want to cancel? Any information you have entered will be discarded.")

But, I'm not sure how I can call the function with VB from my code behind page.

View 11 RepliesI am writing a support application and want to send alerts and messages to the applications to show the user.

I have VB.net code (2005) that updates an Excel (2003) file but on close I get a pop up from Excel when my code is trying to close it. How can I close and save changes and not get the pop up? ("Save Changes Made").
I tried this:
vb
xlWorkBook.SaveAs(Filename:=excelFileName2, FileFormat:=Excel.XlFileFormat.xlExcel3)
But it renamed the "Sheet1" tab and I got more pop ups from Excel.

View 1 RepliesIn VS 2008, I built a touch-screen Windows Form aplication for selecting organization names. I have a combo-box with all of the org names.I have a button array with each of the letters of the alphabet wich the user can touch to start populating the combo-box. I have AutoComplete set up so that as the user types, the org names come up and the user can, with just a few taps, select his organization.
Everything functions properly and is really slick, but...The font size in the AutoComplete list is too small and any given entry cannot be easily selected by touch.I can easily increase the font size in the combo-box, but for the life of me I cannot figue out how to change the font size in theAutoComplee list.
