View 12 RepliesMicrosoft's scripting languages (VBScript and JScript) have a POPUP method that allows you to control the time span a message box is displayed on screen before the message box closesI've searched but I do not believe that this functionality (i.e. ability to control the display time) is included in the VB 2008. If I'm wrong can someone point me in the right direction? If I am right and VB2008 only offers a standard message box, can anyone how they have created popup types of messages that only exist for a specified amount of time.
I have a situation where I would like to display an informational message box on screen when an event takes place but I don't want the user to have to acknowledge the event by having to press the OK button as the machine may or may not be attended at the time the message is displayed. If someone is present they can either acknowledge the event by pressing OK or simply waiting for the specified timeframe has elapsed.
just curious if there was a way to make the text in a message box scroll across the message box
View 1 RepliesI have a macro running in Autodesk Inventor that opens and closes an Excel workbook. When the macro closes the workbook a message box prompts whether I want to save or not.I dont. How can I close the message box without save and continue my macro.Or better yet, how can i keep this message box from even coming up?I've tried this where "oExcldoc" is the workbook:
oExcldoc.close (savechanges =false)

For now i have not finished my code and as i am still really playing with .net to learn the different functions how can i close the windows application down after the ok only message box has been clicked? here is the code so far:

I am trying to show a message box when a user clicks the red cross in the top right hand corner of the screen (to close the current form) and I want to code the OK and Cancel buttons so that when the user clicks OK butto the form closes. This is what I have

I have a password form that contains a load of buttons. The user has to enter a four digit, numeric, password to procede. They do this by pressing one of 10 number buttons on the screen, the keyboard isn't used. If they enter the wrong password an error message pops up (this isn't using the error tool I just added a message box msgbox("Error Code #638492") or something) if the user doesn't enter a password, after 5 seconds (I use a timer called Timer1 with an interval of 5 seconds) the form closes and it goes back to the previous page.
My only problem is when I close the form using Me.close(), the message box is still displayed. And if the message box is still displayed it doesn't work. The form is miminized (I have the application in full screen) so this is very bad. What I need is to simulate the enter key press then close the form so the enter key is pressed, the messagebox close then the password form closes.I can do this using SendKeys.Send("{ENTER}"). Here's the sub I use:
[code]...
However, if I don't have the 'Close()' line of code in the message box closes as it should. If I don't have the message box open and I don't use the SendKeys.Send("{ENTER}") then the close() line works perfectly and close the password form as it should?

The auto complete dropdown will NOT close, no matter what I do. When I load the form, the dropdown is down with all the options displayed. I can type anything, and the options will narrow down, until an option is selected, then all the options reappear in the list. If I select an option, hit tab, enter, any key or mouse click, the list still doesn't close. If I change the DropDownStyle to DropDown or DropDownList, it works fine.
I'm currently in the process of building a text editor type program, and have run into a brick wall. I haven't done VB in years, so I may just need a little reminder on some things. I have coded everything so far as far as opening files, saving them, changing fonts, colors, etc. However, I'm looking to add a Close button to my menu strip that will just close the currently opened file, and not the entire program, while also ask the user if he/she would like to save before closing the file, and then if they select yes, it will show the save dialog, and if not, it will go ahead and close the currently opened item.

View 2 RepliesI have to build an application using it in order to communicate with some software. Basically, I need to be able to call this exe and have it run to perform some tasks, then close itself down.I have the tasks running on page load but since I don't want the application to actually open, I use a Me.Close() to close it once it's finished the tasks. So, the whole thing works great (the tasks are even performed) except the Me.Close() causes a message to come up saying the application "has stopped working." Is it because I'm trying to close it while it's loading itself?I am forced to perform these tasks in VB, so please don't just say I should not be using VB.NET for this.
View 2 RepliesI have completed and distibuted a VB.net (VS 2008) winforms application to numerous users.
One user reports the following error when opening the application:
"[Application] has encountered an error and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost."
I can't reproduce this.
Is there a code to make the contents of a collection stay the way that they (everything is still stored) are instead of being erased when I close my program?
View 6 RepliesI have searched all the code here I can find. I have added a bunch of code that some said should fix the problem. but it persists.
Given the code below, I open a small .xml file and then try to save it as a .XLS file. Should work just fine. When I monitor Task manager, the instance of Excel shows up immediately. But despite all the code I have added, it still won't go away, even if I exit the application. And if I run the process twice, I get multiple copies of Excel in task manager.
If the instance of Excel in the task manager went away when I exited my app, I would assume that there was some reference that was instantiated (behind the scene maybe) that persists until then. But this is not the case.[code]...
I have always made a setup file with "instal creator" which have made a nice one file of my program and it have been easy to share. This time I need a chance to update my application. I read somewhere that having website is necessary or its much easier to do that way, is it true? I have worked before with ucoz/unet so I think I could use it.
