View 12 RepliesI am working on an application developed in .Net with Sql server 2005.On the form there is a datagridview called 'ManualRequestDataGridView' . Within the datagridview - Edit Columns - there is a combobox called 'media expected'. On the items section - Collections I have the following list...
Electronic - Email
Tape

I need a code for the open file dialog that if a file is not supported then a message box appears stating the error. This is my open file dialog code. [code] The message box pops up like it is suppose to, when you click ok the open file comes back up like it is suppose to. When you put in the correct file the message box comes back up again. Also the message pops up even if the correct file is put in the open file. but if you close the file dialog the image is where it is suppose to be.I believe the code for the public sub wrongfile is what is the problem. can some one look it over and let me know what changes are needed.
View 7 RepliesI have completed and distibuted a VB.net (VS 2008) winforms application to numerous users.
One user reports the following error when opening the application:
"[Application] has encountered an error and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost."
I can't reproduce this.
I'm developing a WinForms app in VB.NET, that handles sets of style data, and when the user clicks on another set's label, it prompts through a dialog "You are leaving this style preset to edit another one. keep changes on this one? [Yes] [No]".But, I'm facing the problem that, when the user clicks either option, and the dialog closes, everything has to be refreshed, and loading the form again seems a good option.[code]But as soon as that sub is called from the prompt, it crashes the application. (doesn't show an error in debug, simply crashes) How should I, from a given dialog, close the dialog, it's parent, and re-open it's parent? (which triggers all the Dialog_Load() code of the parent)
View 2 RepliesIn form I have one button which has functionality to pick up some data from (by mouse click) Parent application.
I have handle for parent application handle, but even if i tried to bring it on top i am not able to do selection because form is modal.
Requirement here is open modeless dialog and wait till it close. other wise it goes further and executes functionality below.
Another option can be open form as modal and at runtime change it to modaless.
I am using VB.Net 2010. I have two dialog forms open at once. the form that does not have focus I am trying to close and reopen to show the value changes. Below is what I have.
[code]...
the form associated with f never closes, however does open with the new values. I have tried Application.DoEvents and that hasn't worked.
I actually have gotten the events firing like I expect except for trying to close the dialog window.
Background: I have a wrapper around my "Jabber Client" that sets the delegates for the client wrapper and basically generates a messageProcess event. This event is wired in the main program Class[code]...
I've built a dialogbox with a RichTextBox and I'd like to have the following behaviour:
I've got the focus (cursor) in the RichTextBox. When the ENTER key is pressed, then there should be a new line in the rich edit control created. The ENTER should NOT close the dialog box [as it does now :-( ].
Whenever I try, the save file dialog comes up when I hit No and same when I hit Cancel....
If My.Settings.SaveSTS = False Then
MsgBox("Do you wish to save your changes?", MsgBoxStyle.YesNoCancel)
If MsgBoxResult.Yes Then
If My.Settings.OnceSaved = True Then
Dim writer As New IO.StreamWriter(SaveName)
[Code] .....
I have two Close() functions in same class as below:
[Code]...
This is the code I currently created for my program. On the form close event, it checks if any changes were made and asks to save them or not.
[Code]...
I've told it what to do if the dialog result is "Yes." Now, on the "Cancel" dialog result, I only want the message box dialog to close, NOT the program. Whats the command to make only the message box close?
A Dialog that is added to a Windows Forms project comes with two buttons (OK and Cancel) and Click event subroutines for each. The subroutines close the Dialog with different DialogResult enumerations. Here's the code in the one for Cancel: Me.DialogResult = System.Windows.Forms.DialogResult.Cancel Me.Close() But either statement (changing DialogResult to an enumeration other than Null or Close), by itself, will close the Dialog as well. (Try commenting out one and then the other to prove it to yourself.) Here's the question: Why both? Why not just one or the other?
View 1 RepliesI have made a little programme where the user can put in a name to search for a contact. The matches then fill a Datagrid and the user can then choose the one they want and the programm then opens the contact form (from outlook client)The Contact form opens ok, and it brings up the correct contact. If the user then selects the option to "Email" from that from I then get the error message"A Dialog is open" etc...
My code is as follows
Sub GetContact()
Dim objOutlook As Outlook.Application
Dim objNS As Outlook.NameSpace
[code]....
It seems to be due to Outlook being open or opening?
how to create an error message by message box to tell the user to enter a number only if they key in a character value?

My text box is call txtFat

I have a macro running in Autodesk Inventor that opens and closes an Excel workbook. When the macro closes the workbook a message box prompts whether I want to save or not.I dont. How can I close the message box without save and continue my macro.Or better yet, how can i keep this message box from even coming up?I've tried this where "oExcldoc" is the workbook:
oExcldoc.close (savechanges =false)
it freezes up inventor.
For now i have not finished my code and as i am still really playing with .net to learn the different functions how can i close the windows application down after the ok only message box has been clicked? here is the code so far:
[Code]...
I am trying to show a message box when a user clicks the red cross in the top right hand corner of the screen (to close the current form) and I want to code the OK and Cancel buttons so that when the user clicks OK butto the form closes. This is what I have

I have a password form that contains a load of buttons. The user has to enter a four digit, numeric, password to procede. They do this by pressing one of 10 number buttons on the screen, the keyboard isn't used. If they enter the wrong password an error message pops up (this isn't using the error tool I just added a message box msgbox("Error Code #638492") or something) if the user doesn't enter a password, after 5 seconds (I use a timer called Timer1 with an interval of 5 seconds) the form closes and it goes back to the previous page.
My only problem is when I close the form using Me.close(), the message box is still displayed. And if the message box is still displayed it doesn't work. The form is miminized (I have the application in full screen) so this is very bad. What I need is to simulate the enter key press then close the form so the enter key is pressed, the messagebox close then the password form closes.I can do this using SendKeys.Send("{ENTER}"). Here's the sub I use:
[code]...
However, if I don't have the 'Close()' line of code in the message box closes as it should. If I don't have the message box open and I don't use the SendKeys.Send("{ENTER}") then the close() line works perfectly and close the password form as it should?

View 1 RepliesI know it's possible in asp.net to create a custom error page in a web app, by putting the following line in the web.config: <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="frmErrorPage.aspx" />
I have had to do this for my web app, since it is clearly much tidier than letting the program bomb out with it's ugly default error page. My custom error page just has the customer's logo and a brief message saying "Error has occurred. Please return to homepage"The trouble now is that I have no way of knowing what caused the error, when a customer reports it.
Is there a way to make the actual error message appear on this custom error page too?
I dragged and dropped a label control on my web form. But then whe I go to my VB .net code behind file, if I try and set a property on that label control, I am getting a "Declaration Expected" error message for the label I created.Yet if I do try and explicitly declare my label control, the compiler tells me that the label control is already declared.[code]
View 4 RepliesI'm currently in the process of building a text editor type program, and have run into a brick wall. I haven't done VB in years, so I may just need a little reminder on some things. I have coded everything so far as far as opening files, saving them, changing fonts, colors, etc. However, I'm looking to add a Close button to my menu strip that will just close the currently opened file, and not the entire program, while also ask the user if he/she would like to save before closing the file, and then if they select yes, it will show the save dialog, and if not, it will go ahead and close the currently opened item.
View 2 RepliesI have to build an application using it in order to communicate with some software. Basically, I need to be able to call this exe and have it run to perform some tasks, then close itself down.I have the tasks running on page load but since I don't want the application to actually open, I use a Me.Close() to close it once it's finished the tasks. So, the whole thing works great (the tasks are even performed) except the Me.Close() causes a message to come up saying the application "has stopped working." Is it because I'm trying to close it while it's loading itself?I am forced to perform these tasks in VB, so please don't just say I should not be using VB.NET for this.
View 2 RepliesI can't seem to get my 'Save' feature to work properly. It lets me choose save and lets me choose my desired save name but when i click on 'Save', a dialog box appears saying
"problemIllegal characters in path."
I'm not sure if it's code that i'm missing or code that shouldn't be there.
