I have some Python Scripts which I would like to use from my VB.NET class library however instead of increasing the amount of files that I distribute is it possible to embed the script into my project/dll in Visual Studio and then run the script from the dll during my program runtime?
View 2 RepliesI have a standard "class library" project with a set of classes that I use to import in almost all my new projects.
The way I work is creating a new Solution with an empty project, which is my main project, and then I add to the solution the mentioned class library project, this way I can see both projects in the Soluction Explorer and even see the library code or update it if needed. Then I write the code in my main project and I compile.
This lead me to have 2 files when I compile: file *.exe and stdlib.dll
Some cases I use the lib for very small tools that I want to redistribute in a easy and clean why, so I would like to embed the stdlib.dll generated from my class library project into my *.exe file.
I know that is strange situation, but I need to embed an EXE file (or the assembly code) into my project, so it can be started only by the application (it can't create the EXE in the filesystem and start it)...
Is it possible? Edit:It's not a .NET EXE. Anyway I added the Test.exe file as a resource to my project and I did this

I have a single form in VB with an Access database. The form is used to browse the database and works perfectly, however when I compile it into a a single exe file, the database still has to be separate file in the same directory.
Is there a way I can include or embed the Access database as "part" of the exe file so that I have a single exe instead of having an exe AND a separate database file?
I did this before BUT I forgot, I once had a txt config file embeded into I think the projects bin folder, and read data from it directly at execution time but I forgot how to set the path for that....

View 2 RepliesI am looking for information on the best practices or project layout for software that uses SQL embedded inside VB.NET or C#. The software will connect to a full SQL DB. The software was written in VB6 and ported to VB.NET, we want to update it to use .NET functionality but I am not sure where to start with my research. We are using Visual Studio 2005. All database manipulations are done from VB.
Update: To clarify. We are currently using SqlConnection, SqlDataAdapter, SqlDataReader to connect to the database. What I mean by embed is that the SQL stored procedures are scripted inside our VB code and then run on the db. All of our tables, stored procs, views, etc are all manipulated in the VB code. The layout of our code is quite messy. I am looking for a better architecture or pattern that we can use to organize our code.
I have a program that calls an executable, lzma.exe, to compress a file. lzma.exe also requires about 5 dll's. Is there any way I can embed lzma.exe and the 5 dll's into my program, so that they are not retrievable by someone?The reason is, if someone finds the lzma.exe, they could easily reverse-engineer my program and offer it free, putting me out of business.

The CompilerParameters contain fields for EmbeddedResources and LinkedResources, but from the examples I found so far these seem to pertain only to framework resources???
Following a move away from Desktops and onto Terminal Server machines, I'm having to recompile a number of projects created by my illustrious predecessor at the company.One of these projects is a fairly simple WPF MVVM project, with an error-reporting component added as a referenced project, i.e. the reference is to the project, not to a DLL. Both of the projects were started in earlier versions of Visual studio, but both now target framework 4.0 and are being maintained in VS2010.The whole thing compiles fine, but at runtime I get the following error:
Could not load file or assembly 'companyName.Tracer, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral,
PublicKeyToken=0156bfd00d8c2368' or one of its dependencies.The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference.(Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040)
The referenced project is signed with a .pfx file, though I have tried compiling with and without the signing, and it appears to make no difference.I'm not sure where "Version 2.0.0.0" is coming from. The referenced project is at version 1.1.* and the main project is also at 1.1.*.Presumably I'm missing something obvious, or I've failed to include some vital piece of information, so I'll try to respond to any requests for additional information as quickly as possible.
I have a VB.NET Console Application that depends on a C++ project in the same solution. I'm importing the C++ dll for use in the VB project. When I compile and then run the application, I get the runtime error R6034. Anything wrong going here?

So, the crystal report runtime must be installed on the clients which use the app. Now i have create a setup.exe and under "Required Components", Crystal Reports Basic... is marked. I choose the second option below that Crystal Report should come from the identic folder. When i call the setup.exe or the *.msi file the app is installed under programs but without crystal reports.

An error was encountered while opening associated documents the last time this solution was loaded. Document load is being skipped during this solution load in order to avoid that error.Plus when trying to run a project in debug it takes ages to load (around 5 minutes) this has only started happening recently, projects were loading in seconds.
I've got a code sample below that will compile, but not run. Start it in the debugger by clicking the "step into" button on the toolbar, and an exception pops up before it reaches the first line of user code:
"Could not load type 'TestPrivileges.Win32Module+TOKEN_PRIVILEGES' from assembly 'TestPrivileges, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null'."
Comment out either the 'Dim ... TOKEN_PRIVILEGES' line in the module or the 'Public Shared ... TOKEN_PRIVILEGES' at the end of the class, and the problem will stop occurring.Visual Studio 2008 as well as 2010 does it.

So I wrote a VB.net project in Visual studio.I have a scheduled task that is set to run the program every morning at 10AM. If I use windows explorer and double click the application, it runs fine.If I open task scheduler, open the task properties, and browse to the application, then choose run, the program fails, due to Runtime exceptions.I know I have the path entered correctly, since I can debug the instance when it crashes from the task scheduler. VS2010 pulls up my source code.The exception is System.IO.FileNotFoundException, remember, it works fine when I double click the app. If attach a debugger to the process after it is executed from the task scheduler, I can then restart the debugger, and Voila!, The application runs fine.
