Nov 20, 2011I have an assignment I need to make and I have to make an app where the user can create a map/floorplan.So basically they open up the program go to create or edit and they should get a blank or already made floor plan.After that they should be able to add new icons/components to the floorplan or change them location wise on the floor plan.I have been searching into custom user controls and a few post I found on the internet about dynamically creating buttons.The dynamically creating buttons could do if the users can modify their locations and if it could save the whole form after being altered.However I want to be pointed in the right directions and know if any of these will work before I start doing more research and going more in depth.

Sep 21, 2009I've seen this great example of serial communication in VB.NET[URL]..I try to use it in a project I am working on but somethings are not clear to me.1: Now the send and received data is shown in one RichTextBox but I would like to split this into two RichTextBoxes (RtbSend and RtbReceived).It is unclear to me how and were data is assigned to the RichTextBox?
2. the received data is shown in the Richtextbox as one long line, I would like to get a new line for every send message.So for example: I I send "test" four times, I would like to see:The example describes that "comPort_DataReceived" is executed when data is waiting in the buffer. Where can I see the eventhandler responsible for this? How does it know data is waiting?The problem is this kind of coding is a bit to difficult for me. I want to understand the code before I implement it into my project. I understand most of the code but this is unclear to me.

Her code is to save the form size at runtime but i would like to modify it to save the buttons which i have dragged and drop. I tried to modify the code but i tend to when i put the Dim theButton = DirectCast(sender, Button) under the form load method. It put there cannot cast object. something like that.

VS2008 Query - Modify Code To Search For Items Containing Specified Characters

The above query works and returns values on first names that begin with whatever item I type in a text box.
How can I modify that code to search for items containing specified characters instead of just searching for items that begin with the specified characters. I would still need to use a wildcard because it is a search field. see below for an example
For example can I query the FirstName column to display people who's name contain the letters "an" in that order a before n but anywhere within the word e.g.

We tried to modify the code so that the box is checked after 5 seconds using a counter and an if statement. It works, but only partially, what happens is the check box shows a check, but the even that is normally triggered does not happen. [code]

VS 2008 Modify Project To Make New Program?
Jun 24, 2009I have a project, let's call it myproject and it's in the folder, myproject (VB2008>projects>myproject)
I want to eventually open this project and make some changes to it and the end result is that I will have a new piece of software.
So, here's what I do I copy the folder myproject to the desktop, rename it projectb and put back in the projects directory. (VB2008>projects>projectb)
Now, I can make any changes I want to the program and save to the projectb folder, BUT all of the entities (form, design view,settings etc) will still have the original name of myproject.* (and there's nothing you can do about it?) Is this the case? I don't see how you change the name of the "individual parts".

I found one solution that , if change user rights manually then this problem solved.Follow these step to change your account settings.Control Panel-->User Accounts and Family Safety-->User Accounts-->Change User Account Control settings-->Never notify(Set tab to never notify).After this change need to restart system.Now can make all changes like windows XP into Windows 7.can also make changes into program files.
Its working fine, but need to make these changes manually in OS.but its not efficent solution. So if any one knows how can make these changes by coding that will nice.

Now run it. do you have a button on the form? if yes, excellent. if not, you made a mistake. try again now how to add code? you may have noticed that when you double click on any control, it says private sub button1_click(blah, blah, blah) Handles button1.click where it says handles button1.click is what determines when the code executes under what event for what control (in this case the click event for the button1). this won't work when adding code at runtime. did you notice in the above example i added a with event, and addHandler? this is what creates the handler (same as Handles button1.click)
Now we add the code for the runtime control

Above, the addressOf button1_click tells the program to execute the sub button1_click when the button is clicked on (as determined by .click) but i know what you're thinking! your thinking "why would we even BOTHER doing this at runtime? isn't it easier to do it at design-time in the first place?" yes it is, providing your not writing a plugin. plugins are code based, not GUI (also reffered to as WYSIWYG). to update existing forms using plugins, you need to use this method.
Execute C# / Code At Runtime?
Apr 11, 2011Been spending some time on Codility.com recently and it crossed my mind; how do they execute the code you have created (Specifically pertaining to C# and VB.NET) ?
What I am basically wondering is how would I take a textbox on a form type some code in it and then run that code? Is this possible without 3rd party tools?
