Modify Code - Get The Configuration Error And Also The Form Doesnt Load ?

I got the below code from Deborah Kurata one of the msdn moderator on her webpage. Her code is to save the form size at runtime but i would like to modify it to save the buttons which i have dragged and drop. I tried to modify the code but i tend to when i put the Dim theButton = DirectCast(sender, Button) under the form load method. It put there cannot cast object. something like that.

This is the strangest thing, I can not figure out why this is happening. When I delete a radio button from my form which is used to filter data in a database Form_Load stops working.My project consists of a database and a web browser. The database has a search filter options.[code]For some reason it didnt load my settings on start up. I made a button which displayed True/False in a text box to check if it was saved in my settings, it was, it just didnt want to load. So I deleted it and everything broke! Nothing in the code is referenced to the RadioButton or its code.
Have I done something wrong or is VB just messing with me? There is obviously a bunch of more code, I just posted what I think is relevant to the issue. If you feel something is missing, tell me and Ill post it. ied to change the RadioButton with a CheckBox, and I changed the code from "Me.ExampleTableAdapter.FilterHide..." to "Me.Example TableAdapter. Fill...", which is the same as in Form_Load. It works if it starts checked. If I remove this code or delete the CheckBox nothing works even though the same code is in Form_Load. If I start off with the CheckBox in an Unchecked state nothing loads, if I check it everything except the Browser works for some reason.
we have several applications in Vb.Net using the built in log system (My.Log) to write log information. Until now this system was configured by the application.config file before execution but now we want to let the user to choose some options.
Is there a way that does not requires to parse the XML file and process it? Is there available something like My.Settings that will do the dirty job done?
An example would be to be able to modify the DefaultSwitch value from Verbose to Warning or changing a property of the FileLog like the maxFiles attribute:
I'm using vb.net and the my.settings interface. I don't fully understand how to properly modify the applications configuration after deployment without having to recompile (click once). I've tried going into the app files and modifying it there but it doesn't seem to change in program. I'm just trying to find a good way to handle settings and My.Settings.

What boggles my mind is that this all works fine in my C# console test app after I convert the code from VB.NET using a web utility. However, when I paste the VB code from my web app into my VB.NET console test app, it doesn't work there, either, so it appears to be a C#/VB issue. What am I doing wrong here?
So i made 3 forms in the first i made a simple textbox on form2_load i have this code [code] It SHOULD show in form 3 the input of form 2 but that simply doesnt work while it works with the same code on Form 2 . that when Form2 loads it actually has the Input of form1 but not in form 3..As i said there is NO error message and i dont know what i did wrong . We have a purchased application written in Visual Studio 2005 that uses tab controls for displaying information. One of the tabs is for reporting and I am trying to run some code to enable and disable a Validate button. It has a proprietary report component (LxReportView1) that is initially disabled. As user enters information, the Validate button is used to check for required fields. After data entry entries have been validated, user click Validate one last time and record gets flagged as validated and report component (LxReportView1) gets enabled for use. Ideally, whenever this Report tab is clicked, it will run my code EACH TIME.[code]Works fine when user's first action is to bring up a record that has already been validated. So when user clicks on Report tab, report component LxReportView1 has been enabled for use and the Validate button has been disable just as designed. Problem is that given a list of records, if user selects a record that has NOT been validated yet and then later on brings up another record that has been validated, code does not run. How can I get this code to run EACH and EVERY TIME the form loads.

Even in cases that strLine length was less than the index used to split the string, the program kept running.Now i am trying to do the same in VB.net, but since the strLine is not always bigger than the index used to break the string, it ives an error.I do not want to use try catch, because i will have very dirty and uselless code.
I was thinking something like resume next, but i guess it doesnt exist anymore.
I have a form that is built and loaded dynamically when File/open is selected.however I now want to use the same code to open a default file and populate the form using the Form load event to call:

I'm writing an application that imports and tidy up address data into a cleaned, deduped excel workbook ordered in rows with each column as an address field. One of the issues I've ran into is that we sometimes get a workbook where the multiple address fields are held in a single cell with line breaks. I've written code to extract all of this data out of the excel sheet in to a dataset with each sheet as a table and the address fields contained within. I now want to create a new Excel workbook from this data with the address fields in Row and columns the problem I have is I can Open/create the Workbook but when I try to insert a new Sheet (Table) I get an error saying the Workbook is read only....

It looks to me like it is trying to create the table (Sheet) but has the workbook opened as read only....
I have the following code in the Load event of my form and the 3rd statement obviously fails. My question, why does the code fail and not tell me about it? In other words, it fails and then simply displays the form without crashing. It also doesn't execute my 4th statement.[code]...
i am doing an internship for which i had to make a code in vb. i am using vb 2010 ultimate. the code is ready n bug free. it does what it is supposed to do on my system. how should i transfer it onto my mentor's system because he needs the code for day to day activities. his system has v1.something for .net framework. mine is v4.something.i have tried sending him exe file generated. didnt work due to the difference in versions of.net framework.then i read bout package and deployment wizard. vb 2010 ultimate doesnt have that wizard. i tried publishing it. gives me an error "WindowsApplication1 has stopped working." this is on my system and not my mentor's.

I have some code that access an API out on the web. One of the API's parameters allows me to let them know that I am testing.I would like to only set this parameter in my code when I am testing. Can anyone post some example code for an App.config file that uses a binding redirect with the CodeBase tag and an href attribute that points to a file system location? I can't use a standard binding redirect because it is a 3rd party dll that includes the version number in the dll name.
I created a windows form which contains a datagridview. I named one of the columns in the grid 'location' which appears to have generated an error. The problem is I cannot load the form to remove the column as an error is generated and when I load the designer code it says do not modify with the code editor but use the windows form designer.
