Running Code In Form Load
Jul 15, 2010
We have a purchased application written in Visual Studio 2005 that uses tab controls for displaying information. One of the tabs is for reporting and I am trying to run some code to enable and disable a Validate button. It has a proprietary report component (LxReportView1) that is initially disabled. As user enters information, the Validate button is used to check for required fields. After data entry entries have been validated, user click Validate one last time and record gets flagged as validated and report component (LxReportView1) gets enabled for use. Ideally, whenever this Report tab is clicked, it will run my code EACH TIME.[code]Works fine when user's first action is to bring up a record that has already been validated. So when user clicks on Report tab, report component LxReportView1 has been enabled for use and the Validate button has been disable just as designed. Problem is that given a list of records, if user selects a record that has NOT been validated yet and then later on brings up another record that has been validated, code does not run. How can I get this code to run EACH and EVERY TIME the form loads.

I've got a form that opens up whilst data is being pulled from the database in another form (basically a box to say it's loading), the form opens when I want it to and the gif shows but doesn't run until the code on the other form has finished.

I have a form which I use to read data from a text file and export it to an excel template file. The data it reads is constantly updated so I would like to add a check box to cause the data to be read every 10 seconds. It's set up so the user can either do one quick scan by clicking a button, or they can click the button while also having the check box checked and it will scan every 10 seconds.The problem is, once I check the check box, I can't uncheck it. I have created a greatly simplified version of my original code to demonstrate this concept.

I have a form that is built and loaded dynamically when File/open is selected.however I now want to use the same code to open a default file and populate the form using the Form load event to call:
Private Sub OpenToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles OpenToolStripMenuItem.Click how would I do this? Just incase this doesn't make sense, I want the same code to run during form load as if the user selected file/open but do not know the syntax of how to call OpenToolStripMenuItem_Click() from form load.

Her code is to save the form size at runtime but i would like to modify it to save the buttons which i have dragged and drop. I tried to modify the code but i tend to when i put the Dim theButton = DirectCast(sender, Button) under the form load method. It put there cannot cast object. something like that.

I have some code to execute code at runtime...
Here is the main
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
Try
If TextBox1.Text.Trim <> "" Then
If TextBox2.Text.Trim <> "" Then
[code]....
When the button is pressed, it all works and the following files are created: yahoo.dll and yahoo.pdb My question is this: What is the code to load the already compiled yahoo files to execute the code again, without having to recompile the code?

Imports System.Data
Imports System.Data.OleDb
Public Class Form1
Dim con As OleDbConnection
Dim cmd As OleDbCommand
[CODE]...............
The insertion part of the form works great. But my problem is in the form load part......If i leave a field blank(Null),then perform Save operation,close the form after successful insertion and then reopen the form,then it retains the previous values during the form load......This is only in case where i leave a field blank in the previous data entry in the database.......But if i enter values in all fields then form load is working great.

I created a class library containing some properties and methods, when I call a specific method that runs a sequence of tests, it reports "out of memory exception". When I take the same code and build a form.exe, I do not get the "out of memory exception".

I've created an application that is supposed to map a network drive as soon as it starts using this basic sub:
Private Sub DesktopAssistant_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
'ElevatePrivileges()
'System.Diagnostics.Process.Start("batch\mapfs.bat")
[code]....
Here is the code for the MapDrive function:
Imports System.Runtime.InteropServices
Module map_unmapdrive
Public Declare Function WNetAddConnection2 Lib "mpr.dll" Alias "WNetAddConnection2A" _
(ByRef lpNetResource As NETRESOURCE, ByVal lpPassword As String, _
[code]....
It works perfectly fine when I start the application, but when I do RunAs and start the application as another user, the MapDrive function does not seem to execute. Everything else in the application works when running as another user, just not on-load events.

I have two forms. On form one, I have a serious of check boxes and in form two I have functions relating to those checkboxes. When the second form loads, I check the Checked State of the Check Boxes, and run the appropriate functions. This is working just fine. The problem I have, is that the second form doesn't show until the functions that have been selected have completed. It would be ideal if the form would load and then run the functions.
I don't think that I could have everything run on startup, but hopefully there is another method. I know I could load the second form and then just run the code in the previous form, but this is less than ideal, because I can't show the second form as .ShowDialog and I want to be able to split up the code into the other form so that it's not so crowded and easier to read on the first one.

I have a few subs that run under Webbrowser1.document completed section of my app I know the code words because I tried it out using a new project and tied the code to a button and it works great. After stepping into my code during run time it appears that the app is trying to call my sub before the next page appears. What would be the way to place a pause on the Thread so that the web page can catch up before running the next sub?

I have a Windows form I would like to save the Ovals I created while running the form for use and review later I have been trying the SaveFileDialog but have not figured how to get my data out to the file that is created. I have read about using datatable but there again I'm working with that but need to find how to load all my Oval parameters into the table so I can recreate the current look of the form.

FormA calls DialogB where user cancels DialogB which exits via ForceTermination(), see insert.Caller FormA check for DialogResult not = OK, which it isn't, and I can see this in debug as Abort(3).However, the code continues merrily along its way until I get a 'null reference' error which I'm trying to avoid via Force Termination().This is caused by the user cancelling DialogB, a selection process to get a database (SQL) instance.[code]

Is it possible to have code running in the background and still be able to use other parts of the program (i.e. firing other events).For example I have a instant messaging chat in my program and when the user has a new message then the display flashes from green to red as seen below
[code]...
But I still want to be able to continue using the other functions in my program despite having this code running in the background (which highlights to the user that he has a new instant message by changing the display background colour)How can I overcome this?

I have been working on them and adding to them for several months. Out of nowhere, one of the subs in my project is not recognizing updated code. I had a for loop in there that was acting funny so I changed something and noticed no difference. I messed with it for a while and decided to just replace everything in that sub with a simple msgbox and it still tries to run the code that was previously there. I have built the solution, rebuilt it, cleaned it, closed and reopened it, removed the bin and obj folders and restarted my computer several times. This is not a server program or anything dealing with IIS or anything like that.

I have an application that checks the available disk space on the host machine and, if the free space is less than some constant, calls a batch which e-mails people who should be notified about such things using sendemail.exe.The VB code works properly, calling the .bat exactly as it's supposed to, and the .bat (when run independantly) works properly, sending of a lovely e-mail.But, when I put them together, the batch file reports that "'sendemail' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.".I'm well aware of how the PATH variable works and have been sure that the path to the .bat is within PATH (hence why it works when I just run it from the command prompt). I can only assume that, somehow, PATH does not apply to processes run from VB.NET for some reason.
VB.NET segment:
If FREESPACE > GetFreeSpace(DRIVE) Then
'Not enough free space

I am trying to fire off an FTP of files. I have broken down the code to the barest minimum. I have used the Shell Command with success before but the solution is now evading me.
Sub Main()
Dim strGetFileCommand As String
strGetFileCommand = ("c:\Windows\System32\FTP.exe -i -n -s:getcash.scr 10.113.1.7>113Log.txt")
Shell ("cmd /c" & strGetFileCommand)
End Sub
I can run the command from the c:> prompt at the command line so I know that it is correctly formed.
