Configuration Code That Uses CodeBase Tag With A Binding Redirect

Mar 24, 2010

Can anyone post some example code for an App.config file that uses a binding redirect with the CodeBase tag and an href attribute that points to a file system location? I can't use a standard binding redirect because it is a 3rd party dll that includes the version number in the dll name.

Binding A Textbox's Text Value Setting To A Variable In Configuration File?

Jul 22, 2009

I am binding a textbox's text value setting to my a variable in my configuration file. I only consider the input from this textbox to be valid if it's an integer number bigger than 1. Right now what I was doing is letting the user write whatever he wanted in the box, and I'd only let him save the settings after calling a validation function. The problem seems to be that my binding variable in the Settings class seems to be being updated as soon as the textbox is being edited, and that's a behaviour i'd like to skip. How can I do this?

C# - New COM Component In Old Codebase Does Not Expose New Properties?

May 15, 2012

I maintain a WinForms application that uses a third party COM component. We recently upgraded to a new version of the component with some additional properties/features (all old properties are intact), but I could not get Visual Studio to detect the new properties. It acted very much like it was hanging onto a reference to the old version of the component. Here are the steps I took to try to clear it:

Deleted the form that was consuming the component (copied out code first). The only control on this form was the third party component.
Removed the reference to the old component Deleted the bin and obj folders in the solution directory so that the PIA's would get newly created when I added the new control Uninstalled the old component, installed the new one Opened the solution, added the reference to the new component Added a form to the application, dropped the component onto the form and gave it the same name the old control had (so that the rest of the application didn't have to be refactored Pasted the form code back in place At that point the application would compile and run, but I could not get Intellisense to detect the new properties, and if I put them in place anyways the application would not compile. Nothing I tried would get the new properties to show.

VS 2010 Referencing A Remote Assembly Codebase?

Feb 15, 2012

Currently I have a need to reference a class library dll that is not located in the same directory as the exe nor its subdirectories. Can anyone point me in the right direction on this? Are there any good articles or tutorials on it? I have been looking through my .Net books and some go into details in a different direction and none that I have seem to cover it. To be honest, if theres a nice tutorial or article on this topic with sample code to look at, that would be ideal at this point in my project (Im literally presenting on it twice tomorrow).

I have to admit that Im fairly ignorant of this topic, but its my understanding that I should be able to accomplish this using the assemblyBinding elements in the application configuration. If I do use a codebase approach with the app config, am I suppose to do something in the exe code to read the config and load? The class library that Im refrencing am I supposed to have any special methods or classes in it to make this work? I think I have more questions than answers.

If you want more of the nitty-gritty details on the current scenario, here it is:

I have an executable Ive developed (well call this myApp.exe). I also have a centralized data-accessing class library (well call this appData.dll). This exe actually utilizes a framework Ive designed to run from within a third-party companys application. To ensure the myApp.exe is more maintainable and accessible, it will be located separately from the framework.dll and the appData.dll. The framework.dll will most likely reside in the same directory as the third-party exe, but separate from the appData.dll and myApp.exe. So I was considering applying the assemblyBinding elements in the application configuration files for the myApp.exe pointing toward the framework.dll and the appData.dll while that for the framework.dll will be pointing toward the appData.dll (this is why the data access library file is central between the two).

How To Redirect A Page After Running All VB Code And Then Rendering The HTML

Aug 31, 2009

I have an ASP.NET Form (aspx). It uses VB as the codebehind. I want ALL of the VB to run and then the page to render BEFORE redirecting to the specified form. The problem is, is that I have Response.Redirect calls in the middle of the VB code (aspx.vb) and it seems to redirect before rendering the page. Is there any way around this? I need to have the page render so that some JavaScript on the client side (aspx) can run (it is for Google Analytics).

Autogenerate/compile Code On-the-fly At Runtime Based Upon Values (like Key/value Pairs) Parsed Out Of A Configuration File?

Jan 2, 2011

I have a set of classes that mimics enums (see my other questions for specific details/examples). For 90% of my project, I can compile everything in at design time. But the remaining 10% is going to need to be editable w/o re-compiling the project in VS 2010. This remaining 10% will be based on a templated version of my Enums class, but will generate code at runtime, based upon data values sourced in from external configuration files.what my Enums class looks like. The templated fields, per that question, will be the MaxEnums Int32, Names String() array, and Values array, plus each shared implementation of the Enums sub-class (which themselves, represent the Enums that I use elsewhere in my code).I'd like to parse values from a simple text file (INI-style) of key/value pairs:

[Section1]
Enum1=enum_one
Enum2=enum_two
Enum3=enum_three

So that the following code would be generated (and compiled) at runtime (comments/supporting code stripped to reduce question size):

Friend Shared ReadOnly MaxEnums As Int32 = 3
Private Shared ReadOnly _Names As String() = New String() _
{"enum_one", "enum_two", "enum_three"}

[code]....

I'm certain this would need to be generated in MSIL code, and I know from reading that the two components to look at are CodeDom and Reflection.Emit, but I was wondering if anyone had working examples (or pointers to working examples) versus really long articles. I'm a hands-on learner, so I have to have example code to play with.

Retrieve Keys From DLL Configuration File Not From Current EXE Configuration File?

Feb 7, 2011

I have 3 components :

1.Manager : dll containing Iterface definition and other things

2.Implementation: dll containing Implementation of the Interface

3.Executable: (maybe this one could be a external application or another dll using the libraries)

I have particular methods (iside the interface dll file) that extract information of real Implementation from AppSettings keys in order to instance it using reflection. I use the Manager inside the Excecutable, but when I try to retrieve a especific key defined in "Manager.dll.config" (appSettings), the value returned is empty because the configuration file used is "Excecutable.exe.config" I need this configuration information in Manager config file because this Manager will be used from other programs and the configuration must be centralized into that config file to replicate the possible changes to every app calling this dll.How can I to specify that the ConfigurarionManager.AppSettings must extract values from manager.dll.config file?

We want to implement this interface in C#, and have the native application call our C# assembly. Is this anything we have to do beyond matching the method names and method signatures to make it work?

.net 4.0 - ASP.NET 4.0 Custom Configuration Section: "An Error Occurred Creating The Configuration Section Handler"

May 2, 2012

I am creating a custom config section that will allow me to manage what ELMAH exceptions I want to ignore from my VB.NET/ASP.NET app. Here's my code. I made it easy to paste in a blank code file if anyone's up to the challenge of diagnosing the problem.

CODE:

When I execute this code:

CODE:

I get the error An error occurred creating the configuration section handler for IgnoredExceptionSection: Could not load file or assembly 'WEB' or one of its dependencies..

What boggles my mind is that this all works fine in my C# console test app after I convert the code from VB.NET using a web utility. However, when I paste the VB code from my web app into my VB.NET console test app, it doesn't work there, either, so it appears to be a C#/VB issue. What am I doing wrong here?

Binding Of DatagridviewComboboxColumn When Using Object Binding

The datagridview also contains a counry-column allowing the user to choose the country of the client.Unfortunately, databinding of comboboxcolumn does not seem to work if an own business class is used. Using a simple collection instead works well.Copy the sample code into a new windows project and the programm runs fine. Then comment and uncomment the two lines with "XXX" and the code will fail. Why and does anybody know how to make the sample code work by using the business object class(variable named "newClientListVariable" in the sample)? [code]
