View 3 RepliesI have an assignment I need to make and I have to make an app where the user can create a map/floorplan.So basically they open up the program go to create or edit and they should get a blank or already made floor plan.After that they should be able to add new icons/components to the floorplan or change them location wise on the floor plan.I have been searching into custom user controls and a few post I found on the internet about dynamically creating buttons.The dynamically creating buttons could do if the users can modify their locations and if it could save the whole form after being altered.However I want to be pointed in the right directions and know if any of these will work before I start doing more research and going more in depth.
View 9 RepliesI've got two classes deployed as COM+ components, let's say ClassA and ClassB. ClassA has some public properties. ClassB sets values for those properties and calls a method of ClassA. The method itself does not modify the value of the property. After the call the values of the properties are reset to default values for the corresponding types. This only happens if the called method includes statement ContextUtil.SetComplete(). Once I comment out the statement the values of the properties remain same as they were before the method call, which is what I expect. Do I overlook some basic concept of COM+ objects and their contexts? I would expect the property value to remain the same in any case.

start with I was given a program by a friend that was created in Excel 2003 with the help of Visual Basic Editor. He said he used Visual Basic 2003, which he is not 100% sure about. Anyways he used CurLine in the program and when I try to open it in Excel 2007 and then open the Visual Basic Editor and run the program I get the following error:Run-time error '-2147418113 (8000ffff)':Could not get the CurLine property. Her code is to save the form size at runtime but i would like to modify it to save the buttons which i have dragged and drop. I tried to modify the code but i tend to when i put the Dim theButton = DirectCast(sender, Button) under the form load method. It put there cannot cast object. something like that.

The above query works and returns values on first names that begin with whatever item I type in a text box.
How can I modify that code to search for items containing specified characters instead of just searching for items that begin with the specified characters. I would still need to use a wildcard because it is a search field. see below for an example
For example can I query the FirstName column to display people who's name contain the letters "an" in that order a before n but anywhere within the word e.g.

View 4 RepliesWe are trying to modify a program to control a usb relay device. Essentially what the program originally does is give you a series of check boxes that you check to make the relay fire. We tried to modify the code so that the box is checked after 5 seconds using a counter and an if statement. It works, but only partially, what happens is the check box shows a check, but the even that is normally triggered does not happen. [code]

I have a project, let's call it myproject and it's in the folder, myproject (VB2008>projects>myproject)
I want to eventually open this project and make some changes to it and the end result is that I will have a new piece of software.
So, here's what I do I copy the folder myproject to the desktop, rename it projectb and put back in the projects directory. (VB2008>projects>projectb)
Now, I can make any changes I want to the program and save to the projectb folder, BUT all of the entities (form, design view,settings etc) will still have the original name of myproject.* (and there's nothing you can do about it?) Is this the case? I don't see how you change the name of the "individual parts".

I am relatively new to programming and have managed so far with google and a lot of patience! I am having a problem naming timer contols at runtime. This is what I am trying to achieve.
1. I connect to my dataset and to my first record
2. I create a loop for the recordset
3. I create various objects on a form and name them using the info in the dataset
I also need to create timers and name them using the first field of my dataset. It needs to be dynamic as its database driven. There could be as many as 100 timers at any one point.
