View 2 RepliesThe program is currently trying to pull information from three different database tables and compiling the information onto one screen, to do this i am using three different connections and a function to handle the data at each stage. The issue is as my code hits PageLoadStage of "2" and runs the QueryDatabase() Function i am encountering an error of: "OleDB exception unhandled: No value given for one or more of the required parameters." This occurs on line 15 of the first code snippet. Can anyone explain this and/or identify any code issues if that is the cause.

I am trying to open a .csv file via openfiledialog and then display information on a datagridview...What would be some ways to approach this? I have tried reading the file, separating the values by commas and placing them in a string followed by placing the string into a list. I place them in a list because I have more than one string of text I want operated in the CSV file. How can I display each string of separated values onto my datagridview?

It is saved on my desktop for easy access.I can close the program. I can click the solution to open it right back up, no problems.I then zip my file (also to the desktop)
My problem: I moved the original file (Project A) to another folder and extracted the unzipped Project A onto the desktop. When I open the new Project A's solution file, nothing happens besides VB starting up. It doesn't show me anything.
Im using visual basic 2010 and im building a program that will basically, you click on something in the list it will automatically open a .dat file pull the information that it needs, and then proceed to enter it into a box on the right. Well heres my issue i know how to do everything else but i cant seem to imitate this image, i need to know how i can make a list like this where the whole row is selectable, and the items/subitems are divided.

View 1 RepliesBTW this issue occurs in any MS office program when the VB.Net (or even VBA) is processing information.Example: In Excel, a worksheet is displayed on the screen. I start either, a VB.Net or VBA procedure and within 30 seconds the Excel worksheet (previously displayed) blanks out. In both VB.Net and VBA,ScreenUpdating = False. My expectation is that the previously displayed screen would stay static as if I left my desk to get a cup of coffee; came back and the same ole Excel worksheet was still there?Of course, setting VBA Screen Updating = False accomplishes two goals: 1) speeds up processing and 2) saves the user from seeing unnecessary "garbage-processing" steps.Why does VBA or VB.Net ScreenUpdating = False not freeze the screen at the time of its invoking?
View 11 RepliesI am using Process.Start(fileName) to let Windows open certain files outside of my application with their 'default application'.If "fileName" for example is a ".txt" file, it opens the file in Notepad. If it is a folder, it opens windows explorer with that folder selected.This all seems to work well, except when the user enters a file that has no application 'linked' to it.(a file that has no file associations)I have wrapped the Process. Start() in a Try/Catch block so that any errors are caught and displayed.When I now open a file without any file associations (windows does not know with which application to open it) it tells me that it cannot find any application to open it with. (The exact error is in dutch so I don't think that's going to be much help here, but I think it's clear what's happening, no?)What I would like to happen in this case is that the windows "Open With" dialog comes up, asking the user to select an application to open the file with. Now it just displays the error message and continues, making it impossible for the user to open the file unless he browses to the file manually and sets up the file association, something many users probably don't know how to do.

I am using VB2005 and trying to put an application together.What it needs to do is retrieve information from a binary file, possibly alter that information, and put it back into a new file.The file is a .wav file with data appened to the end. There is an additional section at the end of the .wav file which stores xml data.I have found that if I open this in a hex editor and make a 1:1 swap on any of the bytes that the application that the file is for can still read the XML.If I tried to add or remove characters from the XML then it would not read. I located a header byte and incremented it to resolve this.
This worked as an excellent bandage to do conversions where the data always needed to be changed to the same thing.What I have been asked to do is build logic that allows for different things to happen depending upon what data is contained within the file.The method that I am currently trying to impliment is:
Read through the file with a system.io.binaryreader
Searche for a bytestream that will signal data is coming
For example:
If System.IO.File.Exists("C: est estread.wav") Then
Dim findit() As Integer = New Integer() {&H3C, &H55, &H73, &H72, &H44, &H65, &H66, &H30, &H31, &H30}
Dim i As Integer[code].....
And then extract all the data till the end of element marker "<" It seemed like there should be a better way and I was looking for some insight. If I proceed with this method, I will have to read the file one time to gather the information and then a second time to write it all out with the header modified for length.This is my first experiene with working with binary files in this way.Also,I've been experiementing with building a string and slapping it back in at the end using the binarywriter.write(string) method.I noticed that it was putting in header characters before the string.These seem to change if I change the length of the string.At one point it was d0 07. Later it became e7 07. Does anyone know of a way to prevent this header from being inserted?
I tried a for each loop to grab all of the characters from the string, convert them to a byte array and deposit the byte array into the file, but the header remained the same. When I write the byte array generated from a system.io.binaryreader I do not get this header.

I got this monitor that can turn 90 degrees & another program will rotate the display when it detects it has been rotated, I have a few questions though.
1.How can I detect when the monitor has been rotated (the monitor is hooked up via vga & no other cable goes to PC so I am guessing the message is sent across the vga cable).
2.How can I make it actually rotate the screen when the message is detected that the screen has been rotated?
I would download the other software but it's just some bulky & slow software for a small thing, windows has the ability for rotation built in, just not the auto rotation feature like the program, I just need to detect the message & make windows rotate the screen.
I have an app where users form up an e-mail by filling out various fields. They give the form the data, then the e-mail is assembled in the background from all the data they put into the form. Pretty straightforward.
I've added a "Preview" button. When they click, I want a box to pop up and show them what their e-mail will look like when they send it.
I can use MessageBox.Show but these e-mails can get pretty long and as best I understand it, there's no way to control the MessageBox.Show size, word-wrap or add a scroller; so this isn't really appropriate to the overall task.
That said, the information IS all concatenated into a single string with CrLf and such in there for most fields. I just need something that I can send this to and have it create the output window at size X with auto-word-wrap and scroller.
Is there a straightforward way to do this in VB.Net 2010?

My probelm, sometimes messagebox.show method don't show messagebox on screen. It will appear in task bar but we have to click it to show it on screen (looks like it is hanged but messagebox is already there in taskbar so click it to show message "success" then click ok to close the messagebox). then only we can click "ok" to close it. without clicking it my "in progress" window won't close. sometimes messagebox will appear with no problem.
I am using bindingsource.find to quirie information, its working so nice but I have a problem when the bindingsource cannot find the information I want it to show me the information that is inside the field, even knowing that the information that am looking for is not there:
I have something like this:
dim findinformatio as string
inputbox=(type the name)
dim findme as intenger=me.bindingsource.find("LastName", FindName)
me.bindingsource.position=findme
if bindingsource.position=findme then
msgbox(Findname)
else
msgbox(me.bindingsource.find("LastName", findName)
I am doing it because if the information that am looking for is not in the record field. I want the bindingsource show me the information that is inside the recordset field(LastName). I used to do it with odbc and works fine but with bindingsource I cannot, Why? And I have a compact database, sdf. I loaded the tables on my project.
Im suppose to make an application that tracks electric motors in a manufacturing plant. It needs to have
MotorID:Five-digit string, such as "02340"
Description:String
RPM: Integer, values in the range of 10 to 10000
[Code]......
I was thinking about doing this part in radiobuttons
The application should be able to store at least 10 motor class objects in an array, create an input form in the application that allow users to input new motor records to be added to the array and create another form that displays all the motors in the array in a list box. This is what I got so far, I know its not much, but whats really puzzling me is how am I suppose to show all the data in the listbox in the second form.
This is whatI got for the first form
Public Class Form1
Dim range As Integer = 0
Dim voltage As Integer = 0
[Code]....
and the second form I really dont know where to even start on that one.
I have to write an application that has the user input data in 3 separate text-boxes and press "OK" to save it. The user can repeat this as many times as they want.I then need the application to show the information inputted in each of the 3 separate arrays. Now I was told this can either be done by using a print page or by having another form show the information. I was told having another form would work best. I guess my question(s) are: is it possible to show the information from all 3 arrays in another form? Also, is there a link to any code that can help me out in listing information from a

What I am trying to do is show a splash screen then the next form. I have given them the option to "skip" the splash screen if they don't want to see it any longer and this is where I am having the problem.
i want to show a splash screen with delay. I have added a new splash screen and in the project properties the splash screen is the start form.
