I have a program that I need to operate functions based off of hotkeys.One of the most important things I need to be able to do, is hit Escape at any time and end the program.Remember, the program form will not be up, it will be a number of any other applications, I need like a global hotkey or something.
View 3 RepliesI'm working on a CNC control program, based on a DLL that someone else wrote. No problems with that sofar, as i get good support from the writer.
The problem i do have to tackle is the following: I want to acces all the functions by means of softkeys ( the F-Keys at the top of our keyboards ) when the program starts it shows the Main menu softkeys ( F1-F12), and each F-key has a function assigned to it, some will make the machine move, others will show another menu, or a fileopen/save dialog, depending on the chosen keys.
All works fine and handy-dandy, except for the F10 key, it seems to be "Sticky", when i press it, the program will not react to any other key, only the F10 key can get it back in "normal state" accepting every key with a function assigned..
How to "unstick" the F10 after pressing it?.. because pressing F10 now, means no other key will do anything, and that may become dangerous, when the machine is moving and it must be stopped..
I have an ASP.NET application with a SQL Server back end. I am storing all my dates in UTC format and doing the appropriate conversions to the local time zone of the browser viewing it. One of the pages asks for a start date and end date (no times).
I am taking the start date and setting the time to 00:00:00 hours (midnight) and I'm taking the End time and adding a time of 23:59:59, so that the date range covers the whole day. Now what I'm trying to do is do a SQL query to do a search for records in this date range. The problem is, the data in SQL is in UTC time and the user is typing their dates and times in their local date and times. My quickest solution was to convert the date and time to UTC, then search the records. However, by doing this, I am to believe ASP.NET converts the given time and date to UTC based on the server time zone. How can I convert a date and time to UTC time based on the time zone of the user?

I have been trying over the past few days to make a program sit open on the computer, waiting for a key press (which will be the hotkey). When the key is pressed, it will execute a peice of code and minimize itself. Im really sorry if this is too simple but im stumped over this one. I have searched google alot but no luck
So: I need to know how I can have the program 'monitoring' or 'looking for' a certain key press while it is doing something to tell it to stop, bearing in mind when the program actually starts it will minimise and stay minimised untill this hotkey is pressed that makes it maximise itself and stop the program.

View 6 RepliesI have recently developed a serial port communication program to access my hardware firewall and its connected to the device via a converter usb to rs232head plugged to a rs232 to an ethernet cable. this ethernet cable then plugs into the device console port.
my program functions similar to that of TeraTerm. an opensource hyperterminal program written in C++ but i decided to do one for vb.net
Alright to cut the story short, i have successfully coded out the program to accept incomming data from the device but however, i'm also receiving ansi escape sequence along with it and i have no idea how i could implement codes to remove these. i have spend 3 weeks trying to look for vt100 emulation codes written in vb.net but i found none so far. most are written in c++. here's an image to illustrate the problem which im facing.
The image below is a screenshot taken when the i ran both the programs together. The bottom is tera term 3.1 and the top is my vb project which i made using msdn's example and improved on the codes. basically tera term was able to interpret those escape sequence and display accordingly to that of the vt100 terminal display. I have spent time reading on regular expressions using the inbuilt function regex in visual basic and tried parsing some strings but its not working. i guess its far more complex than i thought.

View 2 RepliesIn this application I need to allow users to enter a month as integer (1-12) then use integer tryparse to validate that input, that seems to be the easy part. I need two create two functions, one that returns the name of the month and the other returns the number of days in that month. The arrays are supposed to be defined and initialized within the function so that the main program can take the user input and call the two functions, then return the appropriate values as output to labels. I am not sure how to declare the arrays in their appropriate functions and then how to call those functions to retrieve the right value from the function.

I have a procedure at the end of my console application that ask the user to either hit enter to end the program, or type s to perform another search. The issue I'm having is no matter what the user types in the program end. What I would like to happen is if the user types s, then the program starts over and lets the user perform another search. The program is procedural and I need to find a way to start back off at the top of the program which ask the user to type a name to search.

As far as c/c++ is concerned ,friend functions are defined outside the classes and they are accessed without object name.But in vb.net how can i create friend functions like that ? Is the concept same here or its bit different than what was in c/c++ ?
