I would like to display the string % in another one button but the &% does not work.
So how can i display the char %
By using this btn5.Text = "%" the percentage symbol is not displayed at all!

If I needed to escape a double quote character within a string literal I'd use two consecutive double quotes as follows:

However, it doesn't seem like consecutive # works the same way. The compiler is expecting a compiler directive to follow the # character, even when its enclosed in double quotes. How can tell the compiler that I want a # character in my string?
EDIT: as a few of the answers below point out, # is not a reserved character. I closed my solution in Visual Studio and re-opened it and no longer got the compiler squiggles warning me.
I am trying to replace an & in the name of a service in an xml document.

my program functions similar to that of TeraTerm. an opensource hyperterminal program written in C++ but i decided to do one for vb.net
Alright to cut the story short, i have successfully coded out the program to accept incomming data from the device but however, i'm also receiving ansi escape sequence along with it and i have no idea how i could implement codes to remove these. i have spend 3 weeks trying to look for vt100 emulation codes written in vb.net but i found none so far. most are written in c++. here's an image to illustrate the problem which im facing.
The image below is a screenshot taken when the i ran both the programs together. The bottom is tera term 3.1 and the top is my vb project which i made using msdn's example and improved on the codes. basically tera term was able to interpret those escape sequence and display accordingly to that of the vt100 terminal display. I have spent time reading on regular expressions using the inbuilt function regex in visual basic and tried parsing some strings but its not working. i guess its far more complex than i thought.

View 2 RepliesI am writing a simple program that serves a similar purpose as the character map, but just for the Spanish letters with accents (������ & ������). Character map doesn't work for me because I have to highlight the letter I want to insert and then copy it and then paste it into whatever window I'm working with.What I want to make is a program that has buttons for each of those letters, and when I push the button for a particular letter, it inserts the character into whatever window was active before I pressed the button. I also want whatever window that was active before I pressed the button (the window I inserted the character into) to become active again so I can resume typing right after I press the button.I have programmed in VBA before, but this will be my first VB project. The underscore does not appear when the program is running.I have several radio buttons that have the text property set to something like "&1 Fold" while in design mode the underscore is present, but when the program is running the underscore is not present. View 2 RepliesI recently made a simple pseudo-encryption program that changes each character into another. It is capable of encrypting and decrypting a string. This can also be done to any text file as well. The characters range from ASCII 32-254 (This on it's own may be an issue because of #127 being DEL).
Because I believed my own coding may be at fault, I attempted this with Triple Des with identical results.For Triple Des, the requirements for en/decryption was:
Encrypt: String to Byte
Decrypt: Byte to String
And to change them either direction, I used UTF8. I also attempted ASCII and UTF32, but I don't know what I should do. I am considering dropping this but I want to learn problems like this because I am currently in college and haven't started my core classes for programming yet and want the head start.
The point where I have come into a problem is attempting to do this to another file type like an image. I looked at the results from encrypting then decrypting and the results were similar, but it seems file encoding must be the culprit.

The problem is that the word class is a key word in the language. But I want to use it as a variable name. In the VB example you can use the [] brackets to 'escape' that key word and allow it to be used as a variable name.

I'm trying to do this by reading the original text file byte by byte, converting it to a character, and then either adding that character to a memory stream or writing the unicode character to the memory stream. Then I'm saving the memory stream to the original file.

For each character of this string I want a new character out of the string and then remove the character from the list of characters that still maybe used for other characters. It may not get the same character, you could basically just call this encryption, but it's not what I am making. I don't want to waste my time doing this one hour while VB can do this for me in <1 second.
I am writing a hangman type game and I am displaying the word to the user in a label as all *'s, but I cannot figure out how to have just one of the *'s changed in the label to the correct letter when the user inputs the correct letter into the text box and clicks the check letter button.Everything else in the program works perfectly, except for this part.[code]When I use the .Replace it changes all of the *'s to the correct selected letter.

I'm trying to track down the cause of an annoying interface bug in an app that was ecently upgraded from VS2003 to VS2008 (the bug did not exist pre-migration).What happens is this :1) User clicks in textbox containing a date.2) User clears date3) User tries to move to another field, but can't. No error messages appear - it's as if the validation failed.Further info :1) The textbox's Text property is bound to a dataview which uses a datatable as its source.
