View 1 RepliesI am new to programming with vb2008 and I am trying to fill out a form on line. The form looks for keystrokes and keeps track of the number of characters typed. There are two elements on the form that use this method. The first area will allow me to fill in the data using the usual method of setting the attribute "value" of the field as the data I wish to insert. But the characters are not counted. The second area does not fill at all.The code for the fields are as follows.

I'm scanning through all characters in a textbox. Then the program counts how many of each character is in the textbox. Here's the code which adds all characters to a list:

Everything's working fine, except this will also add returns to the list, which I don't want. I thought I could write like this:

View 8 RepliesI have an array of items where i have separated the first two characters, which in my case are ID tags. I have populated my CLBox and the output is like this

What would the process be to do this, would i need to create a reference list or stringbuilder for all the tags(there is about 3000 tags) or would it be possible to loop through and count the matches. I declared the Tags thinking that i could do something from there.
How would you select the last part of a string starting at a specific character count. For example I would like to get all text after the 3rd comma. but I get an error saying "StartIndex cannot be less than zero."

I would like to display the string % in another one button but the &% does not work.

By using this btn5.Text = "%" the percentage symbol is not displayed at all!

View 2 RepliesI am writing a simple program that serves a similar purpose as the character map, but just for the Spanish letters with accents (������ & ������). Character map doesn't work for me because I have to highlight the letter I want to insert and then copy it and then paste it into whatever window I'm working with.What I want to make is a program that has buttons for each of those letters, and when I push the button for a particular letter, it inserts the character into whatever window was active before I pressed the button. I also want whatever window that was active before I pressed the button (the window I inserted the character into) to become active again so I can resume typing right after I press the button.I have programmed in VBA before, but this will be my first VB project. I have tried searching how to do it, to no avail. Where do I begin?

The underscore does not appear when the program is running.I have several radio buttons that have the text property set to something like "&1 Fold" while in design mode the underscore is present, but when the program is running the underscore is not present. FYI the background is set to transparent.

I have to write a program that does a count down on the number of seconds you entered in the GUI I have most of the code and it basically has to countdown the seconds i type in the txtStart. View 2 RepliesI recently made a simple pseudo-encryption program that changes each character into another. It is capable of encrypting and decrypting a string. This can also be done to any text file as well. The characters range from ASCII 32-254 (This on it's own may be an issue because of #127 being DEL).
Because I believed my own coding may be at fault, I attempted this with Triple Des with identical results.For Triple Des, the requirements for en/decryption was:
Encrypt: String to Byte
Decrypt: Byte to String
And to change them either direction, I used UTF8. I also attempted ASCII and UTF32, but I don't know what I should do. I am considering dropping this but I want to learn problems like this because I am currently in college and haven't started my core classes for programming yet and want the head start.
The point where I have come into a problem is attempting to do this to another file type like an image. I looked at the results from encrypting then decrypting and the results were similar, but it seems file encoding must be the culprit.

I've implemented a workaround so the ReportViewer control displays the correct number of physical pages, but is there a way to get that value from the ReportViewer control?
