I have to write a program that does a count down on the number of seconds you entered in the GUI I have most of the code and it basically has to countdown the seconds i type in the txtStart. I am trying to make a program in visual basic 2010 where the user enters hours minutes and seconds into text boxes and then the program will count down from that until its equal to 0 when a msgbox appears and says its finished. I was converting hour entered, minutes entered, and seconds entered all into seconds and then having a timer subtract 1 from that until its equal to 0. But the problem I'm having is that I want to display the hours, minutes and seconds left in a label to the user in a format of: "hours: 0 minutes: 23 seconds :42" but how to display it in this format.

Now, I need to compare outputs from original and ported code, but there's one tiny problem with number formatting. For instance whereas VB6 code Writes just .5, the VB.NET code produces 0.5, instead of .0005 (in original) it writes 5E-4, etc.
How can I make VB.NET's Write to write numbers in the same format as VB6? The option of refactoring writing code to include formatting step is not acceptable.

View 37 RepliesI have three sets of labels, lbl_seconds, lbl_minutes and lbl_hours. These labels have the default value of 00:00 and I want the timer to change that for each label. I have googled this but I cannot seem to find any good info on it. Do I need three separate timers? I have also noticed that the timers have their own tick event handler. I guess it's in this that I need to change the value of the label. But I cannot figure out how to do just that.

TimeN is system time. TimeF is a fixed date and time. All I need is the number of seconds between fixed and system(now) for timeR (and counting).

View 1 RepliesI'm supposed to write a program that validates an inputted ten digit ISBN number using the check-digit at the end to ensure that the sum is a multiple of eleven. Before calculating this and detecting if the entered number is indeed a valid ISBN, we're required to check the first nine digits and see if they are indeed integers. After this the tenth digit is checked to see if it is "X" (for ten) or 0-9.
With the code I've written it keeps returning false for whether or not the ISBN is valid, even with valid numbers. I feel like its something to do with the hyphens; have I misused the replace function?I'm a little lost on how to make my code work, but I'm fairly certain my logic is okay so far.

My question is; when you enter a variable to inputbox like "100.5" it shall return a numeric value at line1 and "100,5" too. But when I need to check for entered value is a real number or not (Look line2) CDbl("100.5") returns 1005 CDbl("100,5") returns 100,5.

Also If the serial is already activated I want the application to reject that Serial and Count how many times they entered in a wrong serial.
View 2 RepliesI have an application where event driven events are already detected. Each time an even is detected I increment a counter.I would like to add the following functionality:
1.) I would like to create a time stamp each time an event is detected and store them in some kind of data structure.
2.) I would like to count how many events are being stored (or in essence count how many events have occurred in the past 10 seconds, not once but continuously).
3.) I would then like to discard of any events older than 10 seconds note events are interrupt driven and can occur more frequently than once a second, but updating my count of how many events have occurred in the past 10 seconds can be done as infrequently as say once a second.
I have made an countdown app that is working in a normal way (added picture of it). Now when I select a number in the numeric box and click start, it starts to count down from that many minutes, but what I want is the number I put in the box *3. So if I put in 3 (points) the counter will count down 9 minutes. If it is possible I want a counter at the bottom every 3 minutes the value of the 000 at the bottom of the image multiply by 1 (+1 for every 3 mins timer1 runs).
