I need to write a program in VB 2008 express that takes an user entry from a textbox and strips out all the spaces, changes it to either all upper case or all lower case then checks to see if it is a palindrome. I must also include a loop structure and a decision structure. I have seen bits and pieces of code but I do not really know how to put them together. I have a timer that basically counts a number up in sequence in a label. On the On Text Change sub for the label I have functions run when the label is at a specific number. Everything works fine, the only problem I have is I have information pulled from an ODBC link to a pervasive database every second, which slows down the program. I have several flash components that run so slowly because of the data update. Now I have tried both using a dataset and coding the query but it is still ver slow and processor intensive, I think its because the Pervasive ODBC link is somewhat slow. Is there a way to have my data pull timer run in the background so that it doesnt effect the performance of the rest of the program?

Have a bit of code ported from VB6 to VB.NET. It uses Write and WriteLine all the way to produce output files.
Now, I need to compare outputs from original and ported code, but there's one tiny problem with number formatting. For instance whereas VB6 code Writes just .5, the VB.NET code produces 0.5, instead of .0005 (in original) it writes 5E-4, etc.
How can I make VB.NET's Write to write numbers in the same format as VB6? The option of refactoring writing code to include formatting step is not acceptable.

What this needs to do is to remove spaces at the end of a number and lets say that the number would look like this "C12345" but what I want is for the number to look like this "12345". I have it as a hyperlike but for some reason when at the link in the code it had added some spaces at the end of the number and I do not know why. What I want to have happen is when the hyperlink is click that it will go right to that number but it does not. When you click it you have to go to the top of the page (where the http is at) to to the end of the link and back space. Once you have done that it will go to the page that you want.
I am trying to write a program that separates a string into 2 substrings.Lets say I need the entire string to be 15 letters long.I need to break the string up so that the program reads it as two words.Lets say that the first word has to be 8 letters long and the second word has to be 6 letters long.So if I type it like this: Computer Screen
That should be 15 letters including the space between the two words.I need the program to read the string to make sure that the entire string is 15 letters long and if its 15 letter long continue, but if it is not 15 letters long stop and give me an error.If is 15 letter long next the program needs to read and make sure that the first word is 8 letters long and if it is print out the first word and continue but if not it needs to give me error.

I'm supposed to write a program that validates an inputted ten digit ISBN number using the check-digit at the end to ensure that the sum is a multiple of eleven. Before calculating this and detecting if the entered number is indeed a valid ISBN, we're required to check the first nine digits and see if they are indeed integers. After this the tenth digit is checked to see if it is "X" (for ten) or 0-9.
With the code I've written it keeps returning false for whether or not the ISBN is valid, even with valid numbers. I feel like its something to do with the hyphens; have I misused the replace function?I'm a little lost on how to make my code work, but I'm fairly certain my logic is okay so far.

Is there a way to take an integer, say 10, and convert that to 10 spaces? What I've got is a text field that the users enters a number. I then need to convert that number into spaces and insert those spaces into a string of text. I've found several places to convert text to an integer but not the other way around.

I have a string that I need to place to a file, but when I do place it to file, it gets cut off at the space, and the words after the space are placed to a new line. So I decided to place an underbar in place of all spaces, to avoid that problem. So how can I search the string for spaces and replace each with an underbar?
