Overload Default Functionality When User Clicks The X (Close Program)?
Oct 13, 2009
How do I go about overriding the default functionality when a user clicks the X in a VB.NET form-based application? I am currently handling the MyBase.Closing event... but since it's a DirectX app, I need to do some cleanup before allowing the form the close.

In my application, the user clicks a single button and the program displays each network adapter description into a message box and then gets all the ip info for the workstation and places it into a text file and opens that text for reading. What I would really like for it to do would be to display all the network adapters into a single messagebox instead of messagebox for every adapter like it is currently doing. Here is the code I have on that button. Let me know if anyone needs more info or has any questions:

I'm writing a custom DataGridView object for a large project to hand out to a bunch of developers to make our app sections look consistent. I want to set defaults for many of the properties of the DataGridView, and I can set many of them like this:
<System.ComponentModel.Browsable(True), System.ComponentModel.DefaultValue(DataGridViewAutoSizeColumnsMode.Fill)>_
Public Overloads Property AutoSizeColumnsMode() As DataGridViewAutoSizeColumnMode
Get
Return MyBase.AutoSizeColumnsMode
End Get
Set(ByVal value As DataGridViewAutoSizeColumnMode)
MyBase.AutoSizeColumnsMode = value
End Set
End Property
These properties overload with their defaults just fine. Its when I started trying to make default Cell styles that I ran into the issue. Since the DataGridViewCellStyle is a class, I cannot make a constant out of it. I've tried changing all of the settings to what I want them to be in the class constructor, and that works great, except that changes made in the designer properties just get set back as soon as the app runs. So putting the changes in the constructor won't do. Is there anywhere else I can put code that only runs when the control is first dropped on the designer? or any other way of setting a default?

I'm creating a program and i want it to secretly save when the user clicks on save.
In other words, i have made it so that it saves twice. Once for the user to read (like a fancy copy) and another that the program uses to open up the form.
Currently when pushed, 2 save dialog boxes come up after each other. I don't want this to happen. I want 1 to come up (the user friendly, fancy version) which is the easy part, but i also want the other 1 to save automatically and secretly without asking the user to set the destination.

I want to create a User-Control that inherits the functionality of a TabContol.
I begin by starting a new project of the type Windows Form Control Library. Next I place a TabControl on the UserControl designer surface and Dock the TabContol to Fill the UserControl.
I go to the code editor for the UserControl and enter the following line of code.
Inherits System.Windows.Form.TabControl
Then I run the program and get an error. Intellisence recommends that I use one of two recomendation. When I accept the recommendation I and try to run the program the problems esculate.
The design-surface is no longer accessable.
I try to comment out the problem lines of code in the UserControl1.Designer.VB file but that doesn't help.
How can I create a UserControl that Inherits the Properties of the TabControl so that the properties of the TabControl are visable in the Properties Window?

Trying to figure out if there is anyway built into windows 7/Vista/XP and/or Dpinst to verify that a driver is installed? I created a program that uses DPinst to install a driver and now I need to figure out how to tell the user that it is safe to close the program once the driver is install as the driver takes longer on some machines to install. Would anyone know how to get this to work?

I'm trying to mimic some functionality in the program below: [URL] *scroll down. it's the "Big Free Clock" link* Developer has made it stretch the font depending on size of form, and also allows user to increase/decrease font with context menu. I have not been able to replicate this using only the Font properties. How is this being done, and how can I achieve the same functionality?

I know that detected keypresses globally can be done through a Keyboard hook so I assume that i am going to need some sort of Mouse Hook.

I'm trying to implement printing functionality into a simple program for my company. It's not necessary, but it would be a nice finishing touch for everyone. And really, in practice, my printing feature works. My problem is that each line is printed on a separate page of paper and I can't find a way to just like, print a page.
It doesn't have to be fancy. I know that I won't need word wrap, nor will anyone ever print more than one page. Here's my ginked & modified code thus far:
Private Sub PrintDocument1_PrintPage(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Drawing.Printing.PrintPageEventArgs) Handles PrintDocument1.PrintPage
Dim linesPerPage As Single = 0

I have aconsole application that executes 2 other processes, and then closes the processes once it's finished its work.
If the user closes the console application prematurely, the 2 other processes go rogue and sit idle (As they are expecting to be closed by the console).
Is it possible to detect when the user clicks the X or closes the console app in another fashion, so I can also destroy the spawned processes?

-User Opens program
-User goes to settings.(Settings has a bunch of RadioButtons)
-User Customizes settings, checks certain buttons. (How would I pop up a msg when the user clicks "Ok" with out checking something?
-When "Ok" is pressed, it will "save"
-When settings is opened again, the same RadioButtons will be checked.
Right now, if I exit the settings form, and open it again, the radio buttons are cleared
