I would like to know if i had two columns from a database called SellerID and Product letter in a table called product, and on a new form i want to be able to combine the columns i.e if the user enters the sellerId and product ID e.g 1A in a SellerProductID in a new table on a new for i want the program to do a postback and have the Description Field be populated with the data from the Products ID Therefore the SellerID + Product letter = SellerProductID and it should select the description in the description field.
I'm having a weird problem with a custom Web Control in an ASP.NET forms application. For a web application, I figured that it would save me a lot of time to create a class which inherits from CompositeControl which combines a label with some other control such as a TextBox or DropDownList. This composite control has several properties that wrap properties of the underlying properties (e.g.: EnteredText wraps TextBox.Text). The controls can be used for databinding in the same way as the regular ones, but instead of txtBox.Text = someObject.someProperty you use compositeControl.EnteredText = someObject.someProperty. These controls are then used on ASPX pages and ASCX user controls.
The first time the page loads my structrure is filled correctly. After an AJAX postback all the structure fields are setting to nothing. (It seems that the Dim OldPInfo As New PInfo is called again), but i should better ask the SO Experts.
I have several UserControls in an ASP:Repeater. They are 'Add to basket' User Controls with a text input for quantity and a button to add the item to the basket.
My problem is the value is being reset to 1 whenever I enter a value into the quantity text box. I think this is happening because the containing page reinitialised the repeater (which holds the UserControls) and the quantity is one again before the UserControl's click event is fired.
how to capture the value in the textbox before the Postback occurs, I am happy to stick this data in a session for now.
I am thinking I need something along the lines of PreLoad? But that didn't work for me
I've run into a problem that I'm at a loss to understand and/or work around. I'm working on a settings page that updates an XML file. The page has an XmlDataSource with a transform file (to filter and sort the values) and a DataList that is populated from the XmlDataSource. A user can enter a new group name into a text box and click a button to submit the form. When this happens, the new value is successfully added to the XML file.
I have a simple windows form that i would like to send the values of a few textboxes and comboboxes to an rdlc report after saving them (I have VS 2005 standard, so no crystal reports) - it's as follows:
the textboxes are labeled length, width, height the combobox is labled unit of measure and contains two options - inches or centimetres the label has text of "your total cubic inches/centimetres is:" - followed by the unit of measure selected.the buttons are labeled save, calculate, print, print preview, and exit.Having said all of the above, the save, calculate and exit button code is easy enough and is good to go - it's print and print preview i'm stuck on the solution i'm after is to take those values and send them to an rdlc report that immediately prints (calls up the default printer dialogue) without preview or anything when the print button is clicked and also have a print preview function as well for when of course the print preview button is clicked.The report has already been created with the titles mentioned above..
Can someone help me with this code? I just need to make it so there is no limitation on how much data is loaded in the columns or rows, it populates very nicely for smaller comma delimited files , but if I try to load something that goes for example over to AV column, it errors out.I don't care about VIEWING this data, I am just trying to get it into a LISTVIEW so I can access the data for other methods in my code.Index was outside the bounds of the array. It's adding the second file's information to the DataTable twice and not adding the first file's information at all.

I'm playing with an Access database file. And I want to populate a ListView control with Access data. I'm not going to use the DataGridView control. The following is my Access file, which has a table labeled Employ1 with three fields (Usernames, FNames, LNames) as you see below.
tried quite a bit of iterations, not a local admin so i dont want to even bother using the data connection wizard, want to do all of this with unbound controls only the harder way for learning purposes and also so i dont have to keep logging in as local admin and create data sources in the future. Cant really seem to get the table to fill, it appears always with blank fields, and tried many different ways. Currently using vb. net 2005 msvs.[code]
What I want it to do, is when a id is selected to be modified, another form will pop up with the fields are filled in with the relative data. So another first timer question.I have user entered data from a form that gets put into separate strings. On another form i want this data to populate a Tree view when the user presses a button "Add data". There will be only one stage of parents and child. oParent and oChild. The oParent string will only have like 5 items but the oChild will have like 30 and these will be repeated for each oParent. Not sure how populate this, i cam guessing with some sort of For Each i in oParent, add i or whatever, but not sure of the syntax.

Let's say I have an employee class with ID, Forename, Surname, Initials and Email Address properties.
At present, you can construct an Employee object by passing a data row which, typically will include all these fields. However, sometimes I only want the ID, Forename and Surname but still want to populate an object.

However obviously if certain fields are not present in the data row, I will have an error. Is there a quick way of populating the object based on the fields that are present within the data row without a) having to have separate subs for each circumstance and b) without having to try / catch (or something similar) around each property? I know other languages have options like this - where if there is no value, it will be another value (i.e. a default).
Heres my issue, I am retrieving data from xml and populating a DataSet with the results into multiple DataTables but i have an issue where an item is repeated in my input data and it is causing it to exception because of the constraints imposed between these tables. how can i determine if a row exists prior to adding the DataRow and thus not include it in my DataTable?

I'm writing an intranet ASP.NET page using VB.NET. I've run into a particularly nasty problem dealing with handling file uploads. I'll do my best to explain the problem, and perhaps someone can help.
My problem is almost a duplicate of this one, or this one, except (other than the filename) I don't care about sending the file to the server until the other data has been reviewed. here's the situation:
Joe Q. Dataentry inputs some data into several fields. The first 3 are drop down, and when he changes the selection, a postback event is fired that queries a database for valid entries for the other drop down selections. After selecting the values, he inputs some other data, chooses a file to accompany the data and clicks the "Update" button. When he hits the button, it fires a postback event that sends the current data to the server to be validated. The data will create a change in the database, so he is presented with a view of the current state, and what it will look like when his changes are made. He can now either confirm or cancel the operation for whatever reason.
Part of the data he will see involves the extension of the file which may be a PDF, or could also be some image file or other document.
Now here's where my problem is - on each postback event, the fileupload dialog is cleared. I was getting around it by creating a temporary file on the first postback and then renaming if he clicks OK or deleting on Cancel... but I need to do a variety of things, based on the previous state of data and the filename. I've tried to keep some session variables to retain the filename, and that works OK for just renaming the file, but for what I need to do it gets unwieldy.
What I want to do is be able to have the postback event to present the changes, and then when the user clicks "OK", submit the file. Is there any possible way to do that?
One of my thoughts was to do some of the validation client-side (I'm already re-validating server side so I'm not too worried about data security there), but I don't know how I could get the information from the database query. It appears that what I want to do is prevent a certain button from firing a full postback. Is there any way to do that?I have an update panel on the page already - is there any way for the button to only post what's in the update panel?
I have the Menu Control in Visual Studio 2010 is set up horizontal in my Master page but on same pages when the page loads and on postback with datasources that take a few seconds to return data the menu spreads vertically down the page. How can I fix this problem?
I've got a handful of dynamic controls populating an ASP page, with VB.NET in the back-end.What I need is when the user changes the .TEXT value of a textbox and the page posts back, the .TEXT value of a Table Cell changes to reflect that change (it multiplies the value of the textbox by the value of another cell).But a Table Cell can't be set to AutoPostBack, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to programmatically refresh the page (force a postback) in the TextChanged event for the textbox.
I have a page with three radio buttons and a calendar usercontrol. The radio buttons have autopostback and depending on which one you click it should change the calendar availabilities based on the selected index.The problem is that the page load of the calendar is executing first before the selected index change (where I am setting the needed id).
