This OleDbTransaction has completed; it is no longer usable.
Other posts I have seen with similar error suggests this can occur if it takes a long time, or contains large amounts of data. This is not the case here.Logging tells me it takes 140 ms from Begin to Commit and about 10 commands executed inside the transaction.It is using an Oracle database.This class is a simplified version of my database class:

Is it not allowed to run a select inside a transaction like this? Or can it be done by running the transaction in a specific isolation level (I see that the BeginTransaction method has an optional parameter for doing this) ? ..Or some other sollution..? In my case, it was not a problem to move the select to run before the transaction started, but what if you need to run selects that must run inside the transaction?
I've seen plenty of examples of transactions in the actual store procedure's SQL. But I'm wanting to do the transaction and keep track of it in code. I tried this but it says that my insertcommand's transaction object is null. How can I fix this?

I am trying to figure something out. I have an application in which I am adding the ability to consume a feed. I have no problem with the feed itself, but my problem is how can I mark certain items as 'read'? The only thing I can thing of is to read the feed into a database. In this database, I add a column for 'read' which I update when the user has read the article. Then each time I retrieve the feed, I compare the feed to the database and only load new items into the database.

so if i say want to cruise 29 miles at 12 knts it gives me an awnser of 2 hours 24.6 mins instead of 2 hours 25. Although i do realise that 2 hrs 24.6 is technicaly right i was wondering if anyone here could help me with getting it into the correct format?
im trying to make a fast food program on which the user will input the amount that he has, then he will check on what he wants, by using check boxes. There are 7 different check boxes with 7 different amounts of money. I have the program somewhat finished (thanks for the people that helped me before) but theres still a couple of things that I still need to get finished but I dont know how to.I need to be able to get how much money the user has (this will be entered threw a text box, I think I accidentally messed this part up, because I cant get it to work right, (theres alreasy a permit amount of money in there and it needs to be what the user enters instead of the permit, 5.59, one) and this will be the maximum amount he can spend, then the user will check on the food he wants (and the program will add the sales tax also) then it will produce an answer saying if you have enough money or if you dont. But what im confused on is how do I get the users amount of money and make it the maximum mount he can spend and make sure it doesnt go over the amount that he has checked.[code]
View 1 RepliesI want to add from vb.net a file into a clob column in oracle 9.6.1 (8 mb). When i add the file within a transaction then it goes much longer (10x longer) then when i add it whitout transaction. Why i have to wait so long with transaction object?
Here i have prepared an example code. the first code is without transaction and the second code with transaction. The first code is much faster then the second.

I designed an app that basically gets paths to servers I have admin rights to, I am doing such things such as checking available space on the servers etc., the problem I am having is my app only works if I manually login via something like (start, run, \server) and supply my admin username and password just to store that authentication.How do I code this so it prompts the user in my program ONE time for all 5 servers (they all use the same username and password)

The only way I'v gotten all of this to work, is by both of us connecting ppeo broadband and then our ips work, otherwise the "real ip" is used for all the pcs in my house. How can I connect tcp to him wothout him having to connect broadband. Because to connect broadband he needs to be connected to an ethernet port, so then he cannot be wireless.

Im trying to make a program which basically performs unit conversion. I have basically made two text boxes, one for the S.I. Units and the other for British Units. The general idea is that when i input any number in the S.I. Unit text box, it should display the answer in British Unit text Box and similiarly if i input any number in British Unit Textbox, the answer should be displayed in S.I.Unit textbox. Now the problem lies here that the code that i created is by using if else. now the compiler automatically gives me the correct result in the British box when i input the value in the s.i. unit box, but when i input the value in the british text box, it gives an error that :
"An unhandled exception of type 'System.InvalidCastException' occurred in Microsoft.VisualBasic.dll
Additional information: Conversion from string "" to type 'Double' is not valid."

Is there any way to create a button which basically clears a entire table in your database?
I was hoping to have 2 buttons, 1 to empty a table 1 to fill the same table again.The idea is to store a year long values, and at the end of the year delete all of those with a button.The other button i want to use to fill the same table again.Starting from 1st day of the year untill the last day of the year.
I've been able to write a thread into my app which basically does a loop in the background perfroming detection for a device being added or removed.works great!i am trying to implement another thread to check for a file on the found device...but i still haven't figured out threading enough to make this work, the versions i try to implemt are either looping along with the initial loop or cancelling itself because its already running.i've been trying to put a variable in that would switch the thread off, but it doesn't seem to work.
View 2 RepliesI'm in need of a "global" type timer that will allow me to basically run a clock the entire time someone is on my site, no matter what pages they go to. I've played around with the timer available for forms but I didn't see a way to make it continue to run after someone left that page.The effect I'm attempting to create is for a timer to start whenever someone hits my site, then every X minutes an event will trigger. This event should happen no matter where they are on the site. I've read a couple articles on timers but to be honest I'm fairly new to VB and I didn't know if I really needed to learn about 'threading' etc, to get a timer to work.

And so on, until there are no more lines to read. I have searched, but all that I have found requires you to preprogram the amount of lines in the .txt file. I want to be able to add lines later without having to go into the code and add more.
The code below at the moment reads a text file and then writes it out again to a different location. One thing i need to be able to do before it get written again is to scan each line and reduce any line that has more than one space in it.[code]...
View 6 RepliesI am trying to develop an app that will export a large amount of zip files all of which have the same single file in them - simply named 'dw' (with no extension). They will all be in the same directory. I want the file 'dw' to be renamed to the zip file name + .tif. (I will actually eventually need for this to use the magic number to determine if the file is a .tif or a .rtf.) I have been able to get it to cycle through, if the file is NOT renamed. I seem to run into issues when I want the file renamed. It just creates the first .tif file and thats it. I think its actually just cycling through but everything is getting that same name. For the record i am not a programmer by trade, just trying to help with something at work - thus I know the code I have peiced together probably isn't 'by the book'
