Prevent A Second Instance Of A Form To Be Created?

Jul 29, 2010

I need my program to open just one instance of each form, and if the person clicks again on the button that opens a form that is already showing, the form should only be brought to front (probably with the "bringtofront" method). How do I do this?I tried checking if the form "is nothing" before showing it, but if I close it and then try to open it again it doesn't work.

Declaring A Object - Instance Of An Object To Be Created When A Form Loads Or Another Class Is Created

Oct 5, 2009

If you want a instance of an object to be created when a form loads or another class is created, you have two options:

Public class example

private IAmAObject As IAmAObject

public sub new()

[CODE]...

Or like this:

public class example

private IAmAObject as new IAmAObject

public sub new()

[CODE]...

I always use the first one. It's more type work but I think it's neater. How about you people and is there any real difference between the two?

Use String As A Previously Created Object Instance?

Aug 9, 2009

Not sure exactly what I need to do to make this work, so my description may be lacking at first.Essentially I am writing a program launcher that recreates itself each time on load. It pulls the data regarding the tabs and buttons from an SQLite database and builds itself dynamically at run time. I get my problem when I pass the tab name through to the function that creates the buttons. I need the name to pull the right set of buttons from the database and I then tried to use the name to place the buttons on the right tab when I create them, but the debugger calls it a null reference because it doesn't point correctly to the tabpage that I'm trying to make it point to (at least that is what I'm guessing). Any ideas on how to make this work right?

Can't Define A Specific Instance Of Static Method Created As A Java Class

Mar 12, 2011

Under Visual Basic 2010, I am trying to define a specific instance of a static method that was created as a Java class. I have a vendor supplied dll added in as a reference.[code]...

But, I can't seem to define a specific instance of this method. Using "IntegrationMethod.getIntegrationMode()"always returns a value of zero.

There doesn't appear to be any way to "setIntegrationMode" to a specific value.

The documentatoin for this Class as provided by the vendor are shown below.

When I asked the vendor for assistance, their response was: "

Our javadocs for the IntegrationMethod class show that we provide three predefined instances of the IntegrationMethod class[code]...

Prevent Form 1 From Activating When Form 2 Is Clicked

Jun 20, 2011

im having a similar problem like the solution here Prevent main form from appearing when showing another form . but some of the suggestions were to minimize the main app so it doesnt show, which i cant do because my main app is supposed to be a desktop to be underneath all other apps to replace the windows desktop. And the second forms are supposed to be sticky notes. so i cant minimize the main window cause it has the user background and other controls. i tried making the parent of the notes a Nothing pointer, a pointer to the desktop, creating the form through a dll but i had no success.My main problem is that when i click a note (form2) form1 comes up, even with form1 having the WS_EX_NOACTIVATE in the createparams. form1 does the form2.show() but they shouldn't be attached.Another reason im having trouble with the solutions preseted in that post is that they are for delphi and im doing it in vb.net.

All i need is being able to click on the controls and write in the note without bringing the main form behind the note. either making them independent, or making the note not focusing the first form or being able to operate the note without it activating. i dont know. my last resource is to attach my main form to the desktop but i've heard is the worst thing you can do because it can cause problems hanging the system.

Prevent Painting Of .NET Form While Form Is Loading?

Jun 14, 2010

Is there a way to turn off all visual updates to a .NET form while I am manipulating it? When my program first loads, for example, I set the tab control to the tab that was last open. The user can see the program switching tabs.

I have looked into SuspendLayout and ResumeLayout, but either I don't understand what they are doing, or I am not using them correctly, because they don't seem to have any effect. Someone told me that there used to be a way to turn off paint events in VB 6. Does this still exist in .NET?

Prevent A Form From Being Minimized?

Sep 12, 2011

I've got this little 'Sticky Notes' type of application and the form I have is a borderless, taskbarless form and for Windows 2000 compatability I'm using VS 2008 and targeting the 2.0 framework. One of the hurdles I have is that in XP, Vista & 7 when you click the Show Desktop button all of my note's windows get minimized and without a taskbar icon, it's not easy to get them back (at least not for a normal user) & I'm looking for a way to either right after the windows minimize I just have them all show again or if I can skip the minimizing message in the wndproc altogether

I've put together a test app that'll show the messages in a listbox for the form, but I'm not sure how to go about skipping sending the message to the form's base class. Here's a snippet, listMessages is the listbox on the form[code]...

.net - Finding Out Which Instance Of A Form Initiated Another Form Or Module

Oct 5, 2010

I'm trying to figure out the best way to reference a control on a form from within a module. Unfortunately the form is just an instance, so it's not as easy as calling form.control...

Dim ChildForm As New frmSearch
' Make it a child of this MDI form before showing it. '
ChildForm.MdiParent = Me
ChildForm.Show()

That form has an option for printing, which calls another form where certain options are chosen. The print form in turn calls a function in a module, which tries to reference back to the origional form.

childform as new frmSearch -> frmPrintForm -> sub okToPrint (in module Print)
okToPrint tries to reference a listview on frmSearch, but can't find it.
For Each itmX In frmSearch.lstResults.Items

So the solutions I can think of off the top of my head are:

1. Somehow divine which form is the caller of frmPrintForm

2. Pass ChildForm to the frmPrintForm as a variable to be passed on to module Print..

3. Use frmSearch directly instead of using an instance of it.

Number 1 would be my preference, as I don't want to have to pass forms around like that.
