Sep 22, 2011How do I prevent a child form from moving down and across each time it is opened? I want it to always open in the extreme top left.

Because I want the user to have a full screen application that they cannot close without using my Exit menu. The problem is, they can simply grab the title bar of the form and drag it, exposing the desktop!

The problem I have is this. I have an mdi application that contains 2 mdi child forms. When I show the first form and maximize it so that it fills the mdi window I can't load the second form non maximized.
Vb.net automatically maximizes the second form despite the fact that I didn't tell it too! If I then restore the second form to its normal size it then does the same with the first form. This is all very strange to me. When you maximize one form inside an MDI window it maximizes them all.[code]...
Prevent Moving From A Cell In Datagridview That Has No Data?
Aug 3, 2011I am updating my last post so hopefully someone will help. I have following code that will move a cell to the next column when hitting the enter key while doing an edit. It will even check the row at the last cell to validate data is present.
However, if there is no data in a cell and I press enter, the focus moves to the next line like it normally does. I need to prevent the user from moving or clicking on any cell until the cell they are on has data in it. Here is the coe I have used[code]...

Oct 9, 2011I'm trying to give the user a chance to cancel FormClosing of MDI Parent by throwing a "Are you sure?" msgbox with an e.cancel however when FormClosing is invoked by MDI Parent, all MDI Children close first, before the msgbox appears.
I was wondering if there's an easier way to prevent MDI Children from closing rather than having to e.cancel every child form's FormClosing until I get a positive response to close and then push all the close events on the children because that seems like too much of a hassle if you have a lot of MDI Children.
EDIT: I guess the only solution I can find is adding If e.CloseReason = CloseReason.MdiFormClosing Then e.Cancel = True to the FormClosing event and using ApplicationExit instead.

C# - Prevent Design Mode Enabled Child Control From Being Moved Outside Of Its Containing Control?
Jun 30, 2010I have a UserControl that contains other controls that I would like to be able to rearrange or resize at design time. So I have a custom designer for the UserControl that inherits from System.Windows.Forms.Design.ParentControlDesigner, and I call EnableDesignMode on the child controls from within the designer. That way, at design time, I can drag and drop the child controls to move them, or resize them. But I can also drag and drop the child controls somewhere else on the form that is outside of the original UserControl. Is there a way I can limit the child controls from being moved or resized outside the UserControl?

Feb 25, 2009I'm creating an application that uses an MDI container to create a sort of desktop style for my form with a group of icons docked to the left hand side. The rest of the form is the desktop area that I want all windows to open in.If I use the standard File-New option that is provided by VB as a default for the MDI container this works fine and a child window is loaded.If I use similar code from one of the icons this also works fine.y problem is that one of my child forms is a search panel and when I double click on one of the results I want a window to open, but as an MDI child. However, this doesnt happen. When I open the window it opens as a completely separate window and isn't docked within the MDI parent. It also appears on the task bar as a separate application.

Scenario I have an MDI form with a UserControl docked at the top. The UserControl is for navigation and is ~50 pixels in height. Jun 20, 2011im having a similar problem like the solution here Prevent main form from appearing when showing another form . but some of the suggestions were to minimize the main app so it doesnt show, which i cant do because my main app is supposed to be a desktop to be underneath all other apps to replace the windows desktop. And the second forms are supposed to be sticky notes. so i cant minimize the main window cause it has the user background and other controls. i tried making the parent of the notes a Nothing pointer, a pointer to the desktop, creating the form through a dll but i had no success.My main problem is that when i click a note (form2) form1 comes up, even with form1 having the WS_EX_NOACTIVATE in the createparams. form1 does the form2.show() but they shouldn't be attached.Another reason im having trouble with the solutions preseted in that post is that they are for delphi and im doing it in vb.net.
All i need is being able to click on the controls and write in the note without bringing the main form behind the note. either making them independent, or making the note not focusing the first form or being able to operate the note without it activating. i dont know. my last resource is to attach my main form to the desktop but i've heard is the worst thing you can do because it can cause problems hanging the system.
Prevent Painting Of .NET Form While Form Is Loading?
Jun 14, 2010Is there a way to turn off all visual updates to a .NET form while I am manipulating it? When my program first loads, for example, I set the tab control to the tab that was last open. The user can see the program switching tabs.
I have looked into SuspendLayout and ResumeLayout, but either I don't understand what they are doing, or I am not using them correctly, because they don't seem to have any effect. Someone told me that there used to be a way to turn off paint events in VB 6. Does this still exist in .NET?

Prevent A Form From Being Minimized?
Sep 12, 2011I've got this little 'Sticky Notes' type of application and the form I have is a borderless, taskbarless form and for Windows 2000 compatability I'm using VS 2008 and targeting the 2.0 framework. One of the hurdles I have is that in XP, Vista & 7 when you click the Show Desktop button all of my note's windows get minimized and without a taskbar icon, it's not easy to get them back (at least not for a normal user) & I'm looking for a way to either right after the windows minimize I just have them all show again or if I can skip the minimizing message in the wndproc altogether
I've put together a test app that'll show the messages in a listbox for the form, but I'm not sure how to go about skipping sending the message to the form's base class. Here's a snippet, listMessages is the listbox on the form[code]...
