Forms :: Prevent A Form From Being Minimized?

Sep 12, 2011

I've got this little 'Sticky Notes' type of application and the form I have is a borderless, taskbarless form and for Windows 2000 compatability I'm using VS 2008 and targeting the 2.0 framework. One of the hurdles I have is that in XP, Vista & 7 when you click the Show Desktop button all of my note's windows get minimized and without a taskbar icon, it's not easy to get them back (at least not for a normal user) & I'm looking for a way to either right after the windows minimize I just have them all show again or if I can skip the minimizing message in the wndproc altogether that'd be great.

I've put together a test app that'll show the messages in a listbox for the form, but I'm not sure how to go about skipping sending the message to the form's base class. Here's a snippet, listMessages is the listbox on the form:

Private Const WmSize As Integer = 5
Private Const SizeRestored As Integer = 0
Private Const SizeMinimized As Integer = 1

Look At Other Forms While Dialog Form Open?

Jun 2, 2010

At one point I have a dialog form open, but in order to process it, the user might want to access information on other (open) forms. This would necessitate the ability to move/resize/scroll the other forms, but obviously everything is frozen during the dialog. I don't suppose it's possible to achieve this "semi-modal" state, where other forms can be browsed, but no other actions taken?

Forms :: Form Does Not Open Correctly On Second Instance

Nov 13, 2010

I have a question that I hope to find a much more simpler solution to.I have two forms in my program which are named Main and Second. The Second form has several textboxs, buttons (some disabled) and comboboxes. When the Second form is opened via the Main form on the very first instance, everything works fine.

However, if I re-open the Second form after previously closing it, the disabled buttons are no longer disabled and the text controls and comboboxes show the previous values entered from the first instance which I do not want. How can I ensure that the Second form will be opened "clean" every time.

Currently I have to add instances to the onload event to do this to ensure that the form is cleared on the second instance.textbox1.text = ""textbox2.text = ""textbox3.text = ""button1.enabled = False

Keep Borders, Prevent Relocation Of Forms?

May 5, 2010

I have a lot of forms that get placed in specific locations at run time. I need to disable relocating these forms, but I would like to keep the borders and titlebar.

I have tried jmc's codebank submission called "immobilise" but did not work for me, forms were still draggable (could be my mis_use, but no errors were thrown)If this isn't doable, is there a way to hide only the titlebar, but maintain the 3D blue borders all around?

Forms :: Prevent Browser From Opening New IE Windows?

May 19, 2010

I am making a webbrowser,how to prevent my browser from opening new IE windows. Because what happens is, there are some links that will open new windows and therefore IE comes in place because it is set as default windows browser which I really don't want because my browser looks really bad if it opens links in another webbrowser.I want it to be just a basic browser, it has only one window, and it should navigate within that window. This is because the browser is integrated in a bigger application only for some website applications that are related to this main application.I am using VB.net 2008 Express Edition?

Forms :: Prevent FrmMain / FrmBundleSearch From Stacking In Taskbar?

Jul 29, 2010

I have a main form called frmMain from which all other forms and actions are launched. In the menu bar on frmMain there is a text box where the user can enter an inventory item number. This shows a new instance of frmBundleSearch. This frmBundleSearch may get multiple new instances opened at a time. What I would like to see is the frmMain in the taskbar separate from the frmBundleSearch when it has enough open instances to begin stacking in the taskbar. Right now, when I debug, when the taskbar starts stacking the application's forms, all of them are in the same stack, so right-click and "Close All" nukes the whole app. Is it possible to keep them separated?

Prevent Form 1 From Activating When Form 2 Is Clicked

Jun 20, 2011

im having a similar problem like the solution here Prevent main form from appearing when showing another form . but some of the suggestions were to minimize the main app so it doesnt show, which i cant do because my main app is supposed to be a desktop to be underneath all other apps to replace the windows desktop. And the second forms are supposed to be sticky notes. so i cant minimize the main window cause it has the user background and other controls. i tried making the parent of the notes a Nothing pointer, a pointer to the desktop, creating the form through a dll but i had no success.My main problem is that when i click a note (form2) form1 comes up, even with form1 having the WS_EX_NOACTIVATE in the createparams. form1 does the form2.show() but they shouldn't be attached.Another reason im having trouble with the solutions preseted in that post is that they are for delphi and im doing it in vb.net.

All i need is being able to click on the controls and write in the note without bringing the main form behind the note. either making them independent, or making the note not focusing the first form or being able to operate the note without it activating. i dont know. my last resource is to attach my main form to the desktop but i've heard is the worst thing you can do because it can cause problems hanging the system.

Prevent Painting Of .NET Form While Form Is Loading?

Jun 14, 2010

Is there a way to turn off all visual updates to a .NET form while I am manipulating it? When my program first loads, for example, I set the tab control to the tab that was last open. The user can see the program switching tabs.

I have looked into SuspendLayout and ResumeLayout, but either I don't understand what they are doing, or I am not using them correctly, because they don't seem to have any effect. Someone told me that there used to be a way to turn off paint events in VB 6. Does this still exist in .NET?

Multiple Forms Program Needs To Open Successive Forms Somehow?

Nov 3, 2009

i was doing a fair amount of programming many years ago, like 10 it feels like, so I'm sorely not up to date on how my newly downloaded Visual Basic Express expects me to communicate with it.I am writing a program that pulls a cell from a database after the user has gone through several forms to determine which cells they want. When I write it like that, it doesn't sound very efficient, but I've designed it this way for usability.Here's where I have a problem: Should I store the path the user takes in a string, an array, what?

Here's an example:Someone wants baseball stats and trivia. They run my program, main form pops up, they select National League button, the NL Form pops up. Now the way my program is set up right now, is there are two ListBoxes on the form, one is populated, and as the user selects a Team from ListBox1, it jumps to ListBox2. Once they've selected all the teams they want info for, they click a button Next.

What I now need the program to do is show the next form "Team: name" once for each team, and insert the name of the team on the form in the appropriate label which I'll have blank. This form will also do the Listbox thing except the first listbox will populated with Topics like HR Stats, Pitching Stats, Coach History, etc.

Forms :: Multiple Forms Open And Close

Apr 16, 2009

I have two forms frmMain and frmNew, and one module modMain. In modMain I hold public variables which are needed for application. My question is how to open and close those two forms when needed? I ask this because if i set frmMain as startup form, then when closed, application will end, and one of those two forms will always be displayed. Also if I set frmNew as startup form, then when I close this form, application will also end. Is there a way to do this from module or something so my application won't end after closing and opening any of those two forms?

Then I write the following code at size changed event
If FormLoaded Then
Me.MaximizeBox = True
Me.WindowState = FormWindowState.Maximized
Me.StartPosition = FormStartPosition.WindowsDefaultLocation
Me.Size = InitialSize
Me.MaximizeBox = False
End If
