I have a form which has has a bound data source (generated automatically by VB - table adapter, binding source etc).How do I use the Form.Show method to open the form ready to enter a new record. Is there a simple way of doing this?

It opens up the new form, but now I can not interact with my main form. It will not accept focus or allow me to interact with it.
Do I need to change the form type?

View 2 RepliesAt one point I have a dialog form open, but in order to process it, the user might want to access information on other (open) forms. This would necessitate the ability to move/resize/scroll the other forms, but obviously everything is frozen during the dialog. I don't suppose it's possible to achieve this "semi-modal" state, where other forms can be browsed, but no other actions taken?
View 5 RepliesI have a question that I hope to find a much more simpler solution to.I have two forms in my program which are named Main and Second. The Second form has several textboxs, buttons (some disabled) and comboboxes. When the Second form is opened via the Main form on the very first instance, everything works fine.
However, if I re-open the Second form after previously closing it, the disabled buttons are no longer disabled and the text controls and comboboxes show the previous values entered from the first instance which I do not want. How can I ensure that the Second form will be opened "clean" every time.
Currently I have to add instances to the onload event to do this to ensure that the form is cleared on the second instance.textbox1.text = ""textbox2.text = ""textbox3.text = ""button1.enabled = False

View 6 RepliesBasically i am making a software that will be interacting with a database (sql).Now what i wanted is a loop which after every 30 minutes, connects to the database finds some info and executes a bunch of statements.For the sake of testing i have made the timer tick at 1 second, and display a record in a database in a label continuously just to see if it works (i will later make the tick 30 min)Now this is what i have tried till now , it prints the record in database perfectly after 5 seconds, but after that just fails.[code]I want to infinitely make a loop in which after every 30 minutes has passed it would connect to the database get a record and then use the value of that record to perform some operations. And this has to be done in the background.

I would like to be able to search any record that is mark with a checkbox to show up in my search screen when I do a search: [code] The problem that i am having is that now that I have added the code to my project to search for the checkbox field in the search screen and if I leave everything blank and click on the the search button I get no record found. I expected to see all that data, since I have nothing selected. Now if I click my checkbox, as soon as I click on my search button I see that two records that I have added for my test.

View 1 Repliesi was doing a fair amount of programming many years ago, like 10 it feels like, so I'm sorely not up to date on how my newly downloaded Visual Basic Express expects me to communicate with it.I am writing a program that pulls a cell from a database after the user has gone through several forms to determine which cells they want. When I write it like that, it doesn't sound very efficient, but I've designed it this way for usability.Here's where I have a problem: Should I store the path the user takes in a string, an array, what?
Here's an example:Someone wants baseball stats and trivia. They run my program, main form pops up, they select National League button, the NL Form pops up. Now the way my program is set up right now, is there are two ListBoxes on the form, one is populated, and as the user selects a Team from ListBox1, it jumps to ListBox2. Once they've selected all the teams they want info for, they click a button Next.
What I now need the program to do is show the next form "Team: name" once for each team, and insert the name of the team on the form in the appropriate label which I'll have blank. This form will also do the Listbox thing except the first listbox will populated with Topics like HR Stats, Pitching Stats, Coach History, etc.
I am leaning VB and have created a basic inventory app for work that consist of 4 tables, CurrentInventory, Surplus, Staff and Category. Each of these tables have a corresponding form. My question is with the CurrentInventory and Surplus form/tables. I want a button on the CurrentInventory Form that when clicked the current record would be transferred to the Surplus table and deleted from the CurrentInventory table.I am assuming that I could somehow use the INSERT command to copy the current record to the surplus table but I am not sure how to accomplish this.
View 5 RepliesI am writing a program to record patient info for a local ambulance company. My problem is when a patient is added it does not write to the SQL server. When I open up the table in the Management Studio the record is not there. Here is the other thing that is weird to me. I open the program, add the patients info, clear the search box, type in their info and the record shows up. When I close and reopen the program I search the same record and nothing comes up. I tried redoing the string command, then thought maybe I needed to use parameters but that didn't work either.
View 11 RepliesI have two forms frmMain and frmNew, and one module modMain. In modMain I hold public variables which are needed for application. My question is how to open and close those two forms when needed? I ask this because if i set frmMain as startup form, then when closed, application will end, and one of those two forms will always be displayed. Also if I set frmNew as startup form, then when I close this form, application will also end. Is there a way to do this from module or something so my application won't end after closing and opening any of those two forms?
