Asp.net Control Loses Its Property Values?

Jun 3, 2009

I'm writing a custom user control for my asp.net site, for storing datetimes. It has two properties:

Private _includeTime As Boolean
Private _value As DateTime = Nothing
Public Property IncludeTime() As Boolean

[code]....

I call my custom control in this way:

<my:DateTimeInput runat="server" includetime="true" ID="txtWhen" />

This sets the includetime property correctly.In my backend code I also do this on page_load:

txtWhen.SelectedDateTime = now

When I step through with the debugger, I see that the property gets set, BUT when the page_load of the control itself loads, the property value is reset to nothing!

The page_load of the control:

Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
lbltime.Visible = IncludeTime
If SelectedDateTime().CompareTo(Nothing) > 0 Then

Custom Control Property With DropDown Values

Jun 21, 2010

I have a custom control. I need to add a property, say, Comparison, to the control. The property should be set at design time using a dropdown. The Dropdown will have String values like '=','>','<' etc.
I tried using Enum values and working perfectly but I need to do some extra coding to convert the Enum values to the string I required. It would be great if I can get the values from the dropdown so that I can directly use the selcted value.

Write Code That Will Control And Read Data From Applications?

Mar 22, 2010

I'm having difficulty figuring out how to run different programs with my VB program. Using Excel and other MS office programs is easy enough since I just add in the relevant COMs, but I can't for the life of me find out how to run other programs. I promise I spent many hours searching before bothering you kind folks here! I'd think this is a common issue so maybe I haven't been searching for the right thing.how to write code that will control and read data from applications.I know you can do "Process.Start" to open any application, and it looks like there are ways to determine the controls available on an open application, but I can't figure out how to do it. Is this possible? Or do I have to import a .dll file for every program I want to control? Or are both possible?

Get Sub To Address Appropriate Control / Can Set Its 'checked' Property Based On Text Read

Jan 2, 2012

I have a form with about 48 checkboxes.I have a public sub that reads a webpage, parse the text of that site to get the values that correspond to these checkboxes.For example: one of the lines would be: "Exterior = 255", or "Street = 0".I do have check boxes that called "Exterior" and "Street". the question is how I can get my sub to address the appropriate control so I can set its "checked" property based on the text read.

Make A Property "Write Once Read Many" In Program?

Jan 12, 2010

What is the best way to make a class property "Write Once, Read Many" such that you can only set the property once?

I know that I could pass all the properties in the constructor and make them ReadOnly, but in cases with a lot of properties I don't want a constructor that has 20+ arguments.

Also, I realize I can "roll my own" setters, but having to do that for every property seems like a bunch of redundant coding.

Is there a clean way to do this in VB 2008 .NET 3.5?

Write A Form That Will Be The Same State When Return To It?

I'm trying to make a form that when it is return to, it will have the same state for the controlsI have 3 .net pages, testa,testb,testctesta, sets up the session and has a button to go to testb. testb has a check box and a button to go to testc. testc has a button to return to page testb.I want it so when we leave testc, and then come back the check mark will be in the same state, but it is not. it stays as uncheck when I go from page testc back to page testbThis is what i did,On the page load event, I set the check box equal to the "button" Session variable. ICollections Sort Thread State - Any Object By Its Property

Mar 18, 2009

to be able to print a list of objects in a user-defined way, i've implemented an IComparer (sortclass), which is able to sort any object by its property. I have a list that can be printed (first a pdf is generated trough the object, then passed to the printer), all done by clicking 1 button (print button).

The internal ICollection (list of) is perfectly sorted, however, the routine to create and print the objects is apparently called to soon... since not all objects are completely sorted when send to the printqueueu. A check of the list after all objects has been send to the printer proves however that the list is printed.

Saved Form Position Get Set To Off-screen Values?

Feb 15, 2012

I have now had two occurances of (different) users "losing" their frm position. I save the position to my.settings in the formClosing event ... and this is the only place that these values are set. When the users loaded the form the first time it worked just fine. At some later point the for got repositioned to -32000 (top) and -32000 (left). I now check for this and reposition the form when it is not on the monitor, but I'd like to understand what causes this. I'm using VS2010 and compiling against .net 3.5

Is the formClosing the wrong place to put the logic to save the settings?

VS 2010 - ApplicationSettings Property Binding For Checked State Of Menu Items

Nov 19, 2010

I want to use property bindings under application settings to store settings for my program. However I have run into a problem. For some reason the checked property is not binding to drop down menu item's checked state. The binding works for text boxes and other controls. I have tried to bind both using the checked property, and checked state property. Auto check on click for the menu items are set to true.

Anyone have any recommendations in getting the app-settings property binding to work without the need to manually set that info and manually run My.Settings.Save?

Read Property Invokes Property's Set Routine?

Oct 18, 2011

The code below does not alter the value of the TextOut Property in the sc object (an instance of SomeClass).But none-the-less the Set routine for TextOut is invoked.There's no other way that the TextChanged flag could become True.But that's what happens when I run the code under VB2010 Express (the only place I have tried it).

Does anyone think that this is not a bug in the compiler?

I know that the problem is related to, maybe caused by, the fact that the first argument to LookAtTextOut ("whatever") is passed ByRef.But I do not see how passing an argument ByRef should result in calling a Property's Set routine when there is no code in the subroutine which changes the argument.[code]....
