Jan 8, 2010In class i saved my program in with load of other test programs for the same assignment and got everything mixed up i finally figured out what was what and loaded the program in Visual Basic. Now my program doesn't recognize one of my forms when i try to access the design view of it. I hit run for the hell of it and the program runs with errors of course but the form1 "the missing one" shows up with all the buttons etc and i can use it.

Nov 18, 2010I wanted to make a program in which multiple files could be saved into one and then unpacked later. I tried reading and then rewriting the exact strings but it made the files corrupt. I was able to do it with bytes but I'm not sure how I add mutiple files together.

May 15, 2011I am new to Visual Basic. I have Visual Basic 2010 Express. I am planning to make a program that can download files from a website to put on an SD Card to Soft Mod, or hack it. I want it so that the user clicks on a radio button based on what System Menu their Wii is running on. There is currently, System Menu 4.0 or less, System Menu 4.2, and System Menu 4.3.
They also have to choose a region from a List Box. The current options are:
Region U (Americas)
Region K (Korean)
Region J (Japanesse)
Region E (European)
I also want it so that the user can choose where to download the installation files for the Wii soft Mod.
I want to have a button that when the user clicks on it, a pop up asks them where they want to download the files to appear, once they choose a location, i want it to download a file based on what they chose and i also want it so that it tells them what to do with the files and where to put them.

I do understand that any exception has the potential to put the program in an unstable state if it is not properly handled. Are there exceptions that should never be handled beyond simply logging and throwing up the stack?

Jun 6, 2012I wrote this VB program to be able to throw a device we developed into programming mode where we use an ATMEL Flip installer to upload new firmware. I can program one device after another running the application off of Visual Studio Express 2010 or Visual Studio 2010, but when I go to publish this file and run it on another machine, it becomes unstable and crashes after each upload. On those same computers if I run the raw unpackaged program under Visual Studio Express, the system does not crash, and I can program devices repeatedly.

Sep 15, 2011We publish official documentation into pdf's, tiffs, and cals depending on the document type. Recently, we have discovered that somewhere in our publishing process, the system can hiccup and cause a character or two to become missing. It's intermittent and not consistent. We have a fix for it, but unfortunately have hundreds of thousands already published in the repository. It was brought up that we may want to consider developing a batch comparison tool that would compare a newly published version to the original published version to identify the problem documents. There was multiple thoughts on how to do this:
1.) Compare file sizes... unfortunately, any variation will cause the sizes to vary and small variations may not accurately reflect in it.
2.) Binary comparison... not sure how this would work at a file level like this
3.) Hash MD5 Compare... not sure how this would work either.
So I thought I'd ask those out there with some similar experience, what is the best way using the .Net Framework to compare one tiff to another, one pdf to another, and one cal to another?
VS 2008 - Program To Recover Password If Lost
Apr 5, 2012I've made a program. The program does what it's supposed to do, for a while. The program is meant to recover my password if I loose it, but when I test it, it fails. It works fine until it comes to the number of my password. Then this error shows: object reference not set to an instance of an object. And this section of code is highlighted:

But when I publish and try to run on another machine, it says the dll is missing.Am I right in saying that I need to add it to my references, with the Add button on the references page? When I do that, it says it's not a valid assembly or com component.

Dec 5, 2009I edited the development copy of a cherished program beyond restore by CTRL+Z, the original version which I want to recover is already published and it is in the c:/deploy folder but I dont know how to open such files for editing. How can I open this deployed program to edit and add some methods. I was cautious enough to save the program before editing but I was suprised that the original was over written by the edited copy.

Published Program Not Responding To Mouse Down
Jul 11, 2010I have written a very simple program to simulate the operation of some electrical relays which respond to buttons pressed on a form.The important thing in the program is the pick and drop times of the relays so I use about 40 timers to simulate the operation
of the relays each stimulated either by another timer or the operation of a mousedown operation over an area of the window which has a GIF background.
The program works great when simulated within VB2010 Xpress but when I publish and install on either of my 2 laptops it freezes and does not respond to the mousedown procedures. It seems slightly better if I don't enable XP visual syles but still does not respond enough to be used. I am running 12 procs each time a continous timer runs out but altering the value of the timer does not make any difference. I've also noticed if I minimise the window and reopen the window it does move on slightly but still never responds to the mouse.
Also the timers in the program for the relay times seem to work at strange values and not those set sometimes? It seems to work OK on my main PC if I install it

This had to be done because the salesmen in our company have has a set of local data on their laptops so that they could do work and not be connected to our network. Can't Run Published/deployed Program (debugging Version Work Find However)
Jun 9, 2010I've been using a piece of code I found that reads in joystick movement into my VB application using DirectInput. Building an executable works great, the program operates as should be, however when I publish my program for final deployment, I get the following error:

Here's some of the error details:

Published Program Doesn't Include Text File And Database It Needs To Run
May 11, 2009When I publish my program I get no errors, and then when I install it on another machine it says it gives me the error that it can't read the txt file that it stores data in. If I hit continue it also fails to read the database. The database file is stored in the bin/debug folder and I told my program to include it when I first added the data connection. Anything I can do to have these included so my program can run on other machines?

Feb 20, 2009My program takes screen shots and saves them but i want to incoorporate a function that allows a user to delete all the images in the file they choose to save them into [code] And its not working the program names each image after the frame that it was taken, ie the first frame is called 1 the second two etc..I want to delete all of the files and the folder that they were saved in but this way doesnt work and is not horribly efficient.filedir is a textbox on the form that the user inputs a save location so thats what i am using to determin files to delete.

Jan 8, 2010I'm developing a command line application in Visual Basic .Net 2005 for converting RTF files into TXT. The application works perfect except for one thing. The files saved with MS Word containing some textbox make trouble. I'll explain it better with an example
1 - I open MS Word, I create a new document.
2 - I insert a texbox and i write some words inside.
3 - I save the file as RTF.
4 - I use my command line application for converting the RTF into TXT. The text inside the textbox doesn't appear anywhere.
The thing is that if I open the RTF file with wordpad it shows the text. It's not in a text box, but it shows it.The problem is that this application will read files uploaded by users automatically so I can't just leave it like this, I have to take into account that there is the possibility that some user will save an RTF file with a textbox inside so I need it to be able to get the contents of the textbox the same way wordpad does.

Connect A Database (created In Access 2010, Saved In An XML Format And Put On Website) To A Login Form In VB 2010?
Jul 16, 2011it's just for a program registration. i would store all of the registration codes in the access database, then export it to XML, then upload it to my web host. I would then somehow connect it to my Visual Basics login form (Which I have already made). If this can't be done, having them register through the form and having all the allowed codes on the internet (So i can easily edit them)!
