View 4 RepliesUsing Visual studio 2008, I have an application that its data can save to a binary file, using *.SDB extension, Moreover users can open this file from my application. I have 2 questions about this.
1-How can I assign an icon to this saved file with SDB extension when my application has been installed in other computer?
2-Similar to *.sln file (for Visual Studio project), How can I assign tow icon to single extension?
I have created a new icon using VB.NET and have saved it to the project directory. I then set the icon property for a form to point to my new icon file. The new icon shows up in the properties window but when the program runs, the title bar displays the default icon that you get when starting a new icon file rather than my new icon.
View 5 RepliesMy program takes screen shots and saves them but i want to incoorporate a function that allows a user to delete all the images in the file they choose to save them into [code] And its not working the program names each image after the frame that it was taken, ie the first frame is called 1 the second two etc..I want to delete all of the files and the folder that they were saved in but this way doesnt work and is not horribly efficient.filedir is a textbox on the form that the user inputs a save location so thats what i am using to determin files to delete.
View 2 RepliesI'm developing a command line application in Visual Basic .Net 2005 for converting RTF files into TXT. The application works perfect except for one thing. The files saved with MS Word containing some textbox make trouble. I'll explain it better with an example
1 - I open MS Word, I create a new document.
2 - I insert a texbox and i write some words inside.
3 - I save the file as RTF.
4 - I use my command line application for converting the RTF into TXT. The text inside the textbox doesn't appear anywhere.
The thing is that if I open the RTF file with wordpad it shows the text. It's not in a text box, but it shows it.The problem is that this application will read files uploaded by users automatically so I can't just leave it like this, I have to take into account that there is the possibility that some user will save an RTF file with a textbox inside so I need it to be able to get the contents of the textbox the same way wordpad does.
Here is the code
Try
Dim args(2) As String
args = System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs
Dim c As New System.Windows.Forms.RichTextBox

If I want the saved files from a application to get special icons, how do I do that in VB? For a f ew years ago when I programmed to Mac, in RealBasic, it was just to add icons and associate them with the extension.

View 2 RepliesI'm trying to create a function to extract the filename and number from saved files where the filename and number is not known before hand. I successfully created this example but the file name in the example is hardcoded. My program creates backup files and numbers them starting a one. I want to extract the saved files and list them in a treelist by filename only.ie.. unknown filename 1, backup 1, saved file 1, saved file 2, here is what i have but it only retrieves the hardcoded filename.

I am making a simple text editor, I am creating the menu and I need to add icons such as open, save, redo etc.I was just wondering if VB has built in default icons for these or do i have to download them from here or a 3rd party?
View 4 RepliesIs this possible? It gives me an error, and I had previously thought it could work for folders and drives and stuff like that as well. Icon.ExtractAssociatedIcon("C:") did not work when I tried it, and threw an error. How can I get the associated icon from EVERYTHING? This is vb.net
View 2 RepliesI am working with VB 2008. I want to be able to run this program say in N: and it will show me in an excel sheet the following:
Folder Path Size(GB) Count of Files
N:Clients 0.53 308
where clients contains subfolders and files and the size is the total of all those files within each folder and the count is the total within each folder also.
This works fine as it is but i have to select one by one the top level folders and some of them are huge so it takes forever to give me an answer.
1) I would like to see in my spreadsheet the following by only select the network drive n:
Folder Path Size(GB) Count of Files
N:Clients 0.53 308
N:Software 10.7 15430
N:Billing 0.98 105
2) I would also like to know if this is the faster method.
3) I tried adding a progress bar so that the user can have an idea of how much this will take but i had to remove because it was not working.
4) I would like to see the folder name, size of folder and count of files in the listview.

I am creating a simple button based rpg and was wondering if someone could help me with 3 things how to hold information within the game until the player save's the game, Saving the game, and Loading the game.I want the saved games to be saved onto a encryted file like .db or .dat file..
View 3 RepliesMy program toggles an existing IE add-on between enabled and disabled. At the same time, it creates a shortcut to itself in the Quick Launch folder using one of two icons which reflect whether the next click is a toggle on or toggle off. I store the two icons in the same folder as the targeted executable, and everything works fine, but I would rather have these two files embedded. I know how to embed them. The problem is locating them. At the moment I use:
Dim MyShortcut As IWshRuntimeLibrary.IWshShortcut
MyShortcut = WshShell.CreateShortcut(QuickLaunchVariable & "Toggle.lnk")
MyShortcut.TargetPath = path/executable
MyShortcut.IconLocation = path/iconfile
MyShortcut.IconLocation requires a string and I don't know how to get to the location of an embedded file as a string. There is no MyShortcut.Icon which would allow me to simply refer to the embedded file.
I am getting ready to release a .NET 2003 application, and this application has a file type associated with it.During the installation I register the extension to be associated with my application, and everything is working fine.My question has to do with the icons. I want a specific icon for the exe, and also a specific icon for the files associated with my app.i want to have both icons in the exe file.I guess my question would be, how do i embed 2 different icons into an exe, so that if you selected that exe as an icon source, windows would see the different icons in it (as seperate icons)I know I can embed them as a resource, but windows only sees the main icon.To give you an example, of what I am trying to do, winamp, the mp3 player program, has several icons in its exe (see picture)(the visual studio IDE exe - devenv.exe - also has more than 1 icon in it)

I currently have the following code but I would like to get away from going to a physical location. If I have the icon as a resource, how can I programatically add the icon? I don't want to use the form's designer to do this.
Sub Form1_Load()
Dim ico As New System.Drawing.Icon("C:Resourcesicon.ico")
Me.Icon = ico
End Sub
My application icon looks ugly-like a paper and i would like to change it to something like globe icon or any suitable image.Am programming using visual studio 2005 and the program is written in vb.net.
View 1 RepliesI'm not sure exactly if the folder icon is in shell32.dll, but nonetheless if it is.Basically, whenever I come across a folder in a FileSystem list, I want to add the icon for a folder to the image list that I am using for the ListView. View 14 RepliesGot an annoying issue it's Visual Basic 2010 I changed icon where the assembly name.I got a good icon it has lots of sizes, or I tried diff sizes like 64x64 128x128 nothing seems to work I only see the icon when i do View > Details so it's small icons in the folder, but if i have view large icons It doesn't work. I even used the same icon on VS 2008 and it worked.
View 1 RepliesHere's the code that I use to extract the icon size that I want:
Dim i As Icon = My.Resources.Spectrum
Using i2 As New Icon(i, New Size(256, 256))
Me.PictureBox1.Image = i2.ToBitmap
End Using
This works from 16x16 up to 128x128 but for 256x256 it extracts the 128x128 icon. I tried 0x0, because I seem to remember that that is how the large size is stored in the meta data, but that didn't work either.
I'm attempting to remake the Explorer to customize it some more. I know how to get Name, FileSize ect. Getting the Icon is hard though.

The code i'm using to Insert the Icon into a image, i'm getting this error: Error1Value of type 'System. Drawing.Icon' cannot be converted to 'System.Drawing.Image'
i'm getting this really strange error, or I must be overlooking something obvious. I'm using the following piece of code:Dim hwnd As Integer = GetWindow(GetDesktopWindow, GW_ CHILD) Dim myicon.As System.Drawing.Icon =Icon.FromHandle(hwnd)PictureBox1.Image =myicon.ToBitmap
