Reference The Values From Textboxes On Form Submit That Reside In Usercontrol?
Aug 18, 2011
I have a large form that reuses several elements, so I decided to create a usercontrol with some common fields. The problem is when the form is filled out by a user and submitted, how do I reference those values so I can input them to my database???
Example:
Using Conn As New SqlConnection(connect)
Using Cmd As New SqlCommand(SQL, Conn)
Cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Acct_Company", txtPartner.Text)
Cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Acct_AccountNum", txtPartnerAccount.Text)
So, above two Cmd lines are for normally inserted textboxes in my form, but what would the line look like to reference any usercontrol form fields?
I have a personalized webbrowser in VB 2005. It fills values into a form and submits the form.
The first page is "login.php", the next page is "home.php" SendKeys.SendWait("{TAB}") SendKeys.SendWait("{TAB}") SendKeys.SendWait("username") SendKeys.SendWait("{TAB}") SendKeys.SendWait("password") SendKeys.SendWait("{Enter}")
I want it to do something else based on the url after the form is submitted.
I have a webbrowser and on a form I need it to fill text. The problem is, in order for the submit button to activate, you have to atleast type in 1 letter for it to update and make it send. The problem is when I do document.getElementById("p1").innerHTML= "SSSS" it works but it wont update the submit button to allow me to submit the form. What should I do?
I have two UserControls on a MasterPage. DataEntryUC contains several TextBoxes and DropDownList. NavSaveUC contains navigation buttons. When the user clicks on a navigation button, I will be saving the data entered into DataEntryUC from the NavSaveUC UserControl.
I have a couple of tables in my DB that contain stored procedure names, control names, control types, SqlDbTypes, etc.... that correlate with DataEntryUC.
How do I reference a text box that is on DataEntryUC from NavSaveUC?
I have been working on the following code from NavSaveUC with no luck.
Dim MyControlName = "txtFirstName" Dim MyControlType = "TextBox" Dim MyStringValue as String
I am trying to create a form that adds two text boxes together, I have achieved this however when running the program if you forget to enter numbers in both boxes the program crashes! I don't want to display an error message I just want the program to ignore empty boxes.
I have custom web page and i can edit that there is 3 textboxes (username, pass,t)and a submit buttom.i want enter data in textboxes and submit them it give me result(its a 20 or 30 character)i want do them in my program and without a browser
I want to take the values from textboxes on a windows form and then update the values in the sql server database...I want to update only those fields for which a value has been entered by the user and leave the database fields as it is (no change or updation) for which the textboxes are left empty by the user.....I opted for sql command and then i couldn't find out How can I generate the query dynamically for such a situation??? Like I intialize the string by str= " Update Bookings set " and then how i can alter it by considering the textbox values that have been changed....I couldn't find the way...I need shortest and optimized code for this situation....
My boss sent me to do this fairly interesting project via visual basic. Hes kept it fairly general though. he wants a program, that takes 2 text boxes.. and the information inputed into these two boxes are to be emailed to him when someone hits submit. He says its for keeping track of his employees even when he cant be there. How would one go about coding visual basic to take two text boxes and email them when a button is hit?

Edit:
I haven't yet coded for the update option...Here is my insertion code and i wanted to implement the update feature the same way just couldn't figure out how i can generate the query dynamically....It's a Booking System application
I have a Windows Form that contains a custom control container as a UserControl. For the sake of this question, this custom control container is called Dashboard. This container called Dashboard contains numerous other controls depending on their permissions. I need to raise events that are contained on these controls through the Dashboard control and over to the Windows Form.
How can I bubble up the event? I'm using VB.NET for this project, but can convert C# into VB.NET.Also, to complicate matters, the main Windows Form is a VB6 project. So, I'm using the InteropFormsToolkit to accomplish this.
Using the following code, every time I hit the submit button the values all go back to 0
If txtBedrooms.Text = String.Empty Then MessageBox.Show("Please enter a bedroom 0 or greater") Exit Sub ElseIf Not IsNumeric(txtBedrooms.Text) Then MessageBox.Show("Please enter a bedroom 0 or greater")
I am trying to insert checkboxlist values into SQL using a stored procedure.Getting This error Item In order to evaluate an indexed property, the property must be qualified and the arguments must be explicitly supplied by the user. System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter Here's my stored procedure
I've created an user control in VB.Net. My requirement is to make this user control read values from a form .say for eg. read a filename which will be provided from app.config.
How can I cross reference a .contains for two textboxes? like
vb for each word in textbox1.text if textbox2.text.contains(word) then msgbox("There was a word found that should not be there",msgboxstyle.critical,"Invalid") end if next
Would I need to do a RegEx to get every word in the textobox? Or should i just use a listbox and do a for each I as item in listbox1.items?
To simplify my problem, lets say I have 200 textboxes on a form. I want the first 100 to become disabled in a certain subroutine. I don't want to write 100 lines to disable each textbox; I'd rather write a loop to do it but can't figure out how. For instance:
dim i as integer dim s as string for i = 1 to 100
[Code].....
I tried "dim c as new control" then "c.name=s" but I don't think this makes "c" as a member of my form and it didn't do anything as a result. I think I need to figure out how to declare c as a control that exists within my form but can't figure out the syntax for that.
I am programatically creating instance of usercontrol as shown below
[code]...
I have two public properties in my usercontorl like clerkName and RespName. How can I set those values in the above code. Intellisense is not showing ClerkName and respName Properties.
I've created the beginnings of my new web application, but I am often coming up against the issue that ASP.NET renames elements IDs or in the case of form fields, their names.I have a form which is basically a sales system. It is essentially made up of two User Controls, one is a form for Customer Details (name, address etc) and the second is a form for the customer's purchases, it consists of a number lines dynamically created by Javascript created as you list the items the customer is purchasing. Both these sections are User Controls because they are to be used for other areas of the system where this data will need to be recalled/re-entered.When the USer Control is loaded, the field which contains the Customers' Name is renamed "m$mainContent$customerForm$name" I understand where this comes from, "m" is the ID of my Master Page, "mainContent" is the main Content Placeholder and "customerForm" is the name of the User Control.
In fact, in my case, this will always remain the same on all forms, so it is relative easy to overcome... but... suppose it wasn'tI can see there are ways I could deal with this with Javascript, but the form doesn't need an AJAX submit, a normal Post will do fine for this, so when I open up the recieving page I want to call Request.Form("name")% to save the customer's name into the database, but of course I really need Request.Form("m$mainContent$customerForm $name")%How would I dynamically extract those prefixes from the posting form to ensure that if I rename anything or use it in a different scenario, the problem will not break it?I am using .NET 2.0, so can't use Static Client.

I'm not at all familiar with VB but do occasionally use C#. Really, i'm a BI guy who uses T-SQL on a daily basis in SSRS, which is why I have a question.I have a scenario where i've built a series of charts in SSRS 2008. Unfortunately, the functions available to me in SSRS are not enough for what I need my charts to do so I have decided to build my own function in embedded code. In SSRS, only VB.NET can be used when writing embedded functions.
I have opened Visual Studio 2008 Pro, created a solution and started building my function in Visual Basic 2008. So far, all is going well - i'm accepting a parameter which contains a string "date" of JAN-10, doing a substring operation on it to parse out the month and year, concatenating "20" to the two-digit year portion to get the full year. This part all works just fine.
For the three-letter month portion, i'm trying to use the MONTH() function to return it as an integer but unfortunatley it does not seem to be availble to me in Intellisense, which of course probably means i'm not accessing the class correctly. The odd thing is that the MonthName() function is available, but of course I can't use this with string values like "JAN" or "FEB" because it only accepts an integer. I'm familiar with the fact that in C# I can add a USING statement to the top of my class file to access a namespace, but i'm not sure how it works in Visual Basic 2008 because i'm honestly never used it before.
So my question - and this is probably a very basic question here - how do I access the Month() function? Which class or namespace (or both) do I have to reference in order to use it?Below is a screenshot of what I have so far, you can see from the Intellisense menu that the Month() function is not available:
I have a view with a few checkboxes that can be selected or unselected. I'd like to always register any change in a checkbox, without the use of a submit button (the user could forget to do it, and it would waste time). So, is there a way to handle this inside the view? Up to now, I've only used the controller to do that job.
I have an ASP project which references a WCF service. Does exactly half of what I need.
A button on the page calls a function from the WCF, which returns a list of objects (variable names). When returned, the vb code dynamically adds textboxes to a panel on the page.[code]...
I had actually getting LINQ to work but I am past that now but I was wandering if anyone could help me what I basically have is a DropDownChecklist user control I made and the contents of the list are filled by LINQ getting a list of company names see below:
'Population for company filter box Public Function GetCompNames() Using DC As New DataClassDataContext Dim comp = (From C In DC.Companies _
[code]....
Would you suggest using a public array or something to store the companyID's when populating the first list box? This just came to me at the end of writing this post. Will try this but not sure if its the right thing to do.
I have to use Form.Action to redirect to a script that will be picking up values from my page. It is worth noting that this script is external. My issue is that I also want the button that is clicked and has the Action hooked up to it, to also complete some functionality in the code behind first. Is there anyway I can either :In the buttons click event handler, can I set the Form.Action and then call something such as Form.Submit?OR Set up the Form.Action in advance and then somehow have the button posting back before the action takes place.
Is there a way to write a single function that will control validating the input to any textbox? How to pass control of it.
E.g.: My second try was to: Dim CurrentTextBox As TextBox << Declare a global Write a function that uses the global textbox and takes in 2 parameters, one determining the length it has to validate and the second telling it what to do once the input is verified
Public Sub ConfirmInput(length As Integer, which As Integer) If (CurrentTextBox.TextLength < length) Then CurrentTextBox.BackColor = vbRed GoTo DONE ElseIf (CurrentTextBox.TextLength > length) Then CurrentTextBox.BackColor = vbRed [Code] .....
My first try was to pass a textBox parameter to the ConfirmInput function but I believe that's the same problem as above.
How can I create a form like this [URL]and would like to submit it to a MSSQL database using vb.net or should i use another approach? Are there any books that go over this on amazon that i could purchase? I did try searching but frankly do not know exactly what to search for so that is why I think I am having trouble finding learning material on this topic. Tried Interactive PDF, tried submitting pdf form using vb?
