I have a combobox bound to a dataset. I want the combobox to update when changes are made to the dataset.I thought i read soewhere that it is supposed to do that on its own when bound to a dataset but I don't see it happening.Now I am having to refill the combobox from the updated dataset.Is there a way to get that to work?

Then if the user makes changes I then call the above sub (from another form someone clicks "done") again to then refill the DS based on the new conditions.so it may add/delete rows from the DS and then fill it. But when its is called from the other class it does not 'refill'

But the problem is i have to get only the distinct values from the column and also when a user inserts a value into that column the new value should be showned in the combobox at the same time.And also i want to make the first row of the combobox to be unselectable..[code]how to make this column distinct values
I've got a somewhat sillier question this time. After I insert/update my data using SQLParameters, it wont refresh. I'm using the following code to refresh the binding source:
I use the Add new button (of the Binding Navigator) to clear the text boxes for a new record, but then have a Update button on the form where I do an Insert query to SQL, which works because if I refresh the table in SQL the new row is there.However when I then use the Binding Navigator 'move previous' button I get an error saying "Column 'AllowOverbook' does not allow nulls. " - now this is a column that is defined in the database to have 'Allow Nulls' = False, but I do not display this field on my form because in this case it is not required.Instead I have it included on my Insert statement and just set it to '0' Also when you look at the table every entry in the AllowOverbook column is '0' and there are no NULLS.
I have a datagridview on a form that is bound to a table in a dataset from another class.I use a data adapter to .Fill a table in that dataset and the grid displays the data fine.Works fine.On my form I have a textbox the user can type in that will will pass a parameter to the storedprocedure used to fill this table. So on startup the textbox will have "%" in it. and then the user can type in "F%" and get everything that starts with an "F"
So when that textbox changes I launch an async refresh (.BeginInvoke) to do my refresh. The table gets populated with the reduced number of records (I check ds.table(0).rows.count and it is correct)
But the datagridview then starts throwing datagridview.dataerror events. "System.IndexOutofRangeException : Index # does not have a value".It looks like the dataset is getting filled correctly and not having any issues, but the datagrid is not liking this update. The index out of range error is so common that I'm not finding what I need through searches.
I'm working on a punch-card type program and I'm designing a password change form, so that employees can set their password whenever they first log in, or whenever their password is reset.
The Program works like this: (Code to follow)
1) User starts application
2) User types in their username, and then enters their username as the password. (first time the program is ever run.)
3) The password change form appears, and they enter their desired password in two text fields and clicks OK.
4) The punch-clock form appears, and they begin using it like normal.
The problem I'm having is that at the end of step 3, the program updates an access database, changing the row with the correct username to have the new password. The password in the database changes, like it should, but when the application is exited and then started again, it acts as if the username is still the password.
Below is the code I'm using for the Login Form, the bottom section is a user class that I built just to hold username and password for the logged in user.

I want to update the contents of a combobox in a VB program. So I change the underlying data structure (which is an ArrayList), and according to the documentation in [URL] there's a RefreshList method which should do this. But Visual Studio tells me that there's no such method, and when I type it in manually I get an error saying that RefreshList is not a member of System.Windows.Forms.ComboBox.
I can't figure out how to refresh the combobox on my main form after I have added or deleted an item to the table that populates the combobox. I use a separate form to add, change and delete items in the combobox table. I have tried different suggestions that I have found on the subject on the web. Nothing seams to work... The card numbers are in a combobox (which are retreived from an SQL database using the DataAdapter), and each card has a boolean 'confiscated' field in the database.
I have a databound combobox that displays a list of items, and I have a windows form that opens after clicking a button that allows me to make changes to the table that the combobox gets it's values from. When I make the changes and save them (successfully) and return to the parent window, the changes aren't reflected in the combobox. If I exit the app and launch it again the changes are reflected perfectly. I've tried me.combobox.refresh() on the forms GotFocus event, but no luck.

I have a form with a binding navigator on it. It also has a DGV and text boxes bound by the binding navigator. Everything works fine. If you scroll through the row's in the binding navigator it updates the DGV and text boxes at the same time. And also if you click any row in the DGV it automatically updates the text boxes.
Ideally I want to impletment some validation to make sure the users are not only filling in all the required text boxes but also that the data entered is correct.
I have some validation setup in SQL, for example not allowing nulls on particular columns but I really need to be more extensive in the validation than that.
Ideally I need some way of validating the current row selected whether it's an existing row or a new one, before moving to the next row or before save is clicked on the binding navigator. Firstly because the SQL validation messages are not very good, secondly because whilst the data may meet SQL's requirments, it may not be right. For example SQL might accept 12:00 as a time but the program specification requires the user to input within a certain time frame, i.e. 14:00 - 16:00.
Finally, I feel like the validation needs to be handled immediatly on the record that is displayed as ultimatley, the way the form is setup, allows the user to add and amend more than one record at once and if the validation was handled on 4 or 5 different rows then it would bring another problem of having to bring each row up to correct. Therefore I think the best aproach is to handle each row before allowing the user to move onto another one.
I'm new to programming and am trying to learn how to developed data driven application and was wondering which method is recommended? I know there are some debates out there but most of the books I have recommend using object binding, but it doesn't offer any concrete information on how to implement it. I went to MSDN and most, if not all, the documentations are on dataset. So I guess my questions is, object vs dataset, which do you use?
I have text box which I use the properties window, datasource set to bindigsource1 in my dataset.. I want to trim the text that is being populated.. Is there a wayt o do this through the visual studio gui or is it redo in codebehind?
I need to add rows to a DataSet using databound controls in VB.net. I've set up the data bindings themselves, they're bound the the correct controls, and the BindingSource uses the correct DataSet. The DataSet is filled from the DataAdapter correctly, and the binding source works, as the navigation controls all work fine. How do I use the controls to add new data to the DataSet? I guess there must be some kind of end-edit involved which would enable me to insert, update and delete records in the DataSet (as you would use with DataGridViews)

The relation is a 1 to 1 relation.First, who cane help me how to bind both the fields of the parent and the child table to a textbox.And second, in the dataset designer you cane preview the data. I have a manually created a dataset (dsPickingList) that I add data too as the user inputs data on a form. There is a datagridview on my form of which it's datasource is set to dsPickingList.What I would like to do is spot if a user deleteds a row from the datagridview and update the dataset (dsPickingList) as it is ultimatly this dataset that is stored to the db and printed, not the DataGridView.[code]This is why I need the action from the DataGridView to update the dataset

how one might go about binding to a gridview in ASP.Net 4 in a scenario where the first row of my gridview should be the headers, the second should be a combobox for each column and the third is the beginning of my actual datasource.
If you can imagine what I am trying to achieve is an ability to create a binding between each column in the datagrid and another datasource. This binding is created by the user selecting a value in the comboboxes. However no matter what I try I cant seem to achieve this.
I have set up at DataGridView "cdgvExp" for data entry. cdgvExp.Datasource = ExpTab. The datagridview can accept new rows according to how many entries there are. I will then use the data in ExpTab. The Fourth colum is called "Lot" and is a combobox in the datagridview.
