ive been building a app, and have a beta tester who is on xp, im on vista x64, the app works great t my end, an dive also tested it on another pc with vista x64, and on a laptop wit win7 32, Now my beta teste has been testing fine on hes xp rig, up untill today when the WIP build i sent him started kicking up errors all over the place, try as i might i cant narrow it down to were the error is, heres how the app looks on vista and win7:[code]So i thought it might of been something i changed in between the working xp version and the wip but, all i changed was the page title, nothing else, no code etc.

When I made a program and tested it on the machine I have compiled it , all works well. I tested them even on my other computer works fine. Every time though when I passed the program to my friends computer or such , I got that common error message "A problem has encountered . tell Microsoft about this problem [Send Error Report] [Don't Send]. I checked my computer here is on XP SP3 with Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed , same thing on my other computer. My friends computer is on an XP SP2 with Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 (no SP1).

I've created a project which references some other projects in my solution. I've added the references properly to my project (which I've done a thousand times before), and used them in an Imports statement. I can successfully create references to the objects contained in the referenced namespace at design-time but whenever I attempt to build or run the project, I get build errors saying that the referenced projects do not exist. Their Imports statements change to the broken green underline and the only way to remedy the problem is to re-add the references in my project's properties.
I know that the referenced projects are valid, will compile etc... because they work fine for other projects in the solution. Also, I can go to the definition of their objects as long as I don't build/run.
This is how I update a table using DataAdapter and DataSet in VB using SQL Server[code]...
I know that the Fill method does not make sense in case of an INSERT statement, but I am new to this technology and the above statement does the job and updates the table w/o problems. My question is this: If there was an error (say a duplicate key error) how would I know this in my application? Should I be putting the above code in a try/catch block?
Also, if there is a "proper" method for running INSERT statements using a DataAdapter/DataSet combination that does not use the Fill method, please indicate that as well.
I am writing a simple program that I'm going to use to end a process and then delete a folder with its contents but, I am running into some errors when I try to delete an .dll file using Kill. I would have figured this out on my own but its being weird.
1. If I run the .exe it doesn't delete it and gives me and error
2. I i run the .exe as administrator it doesn't delete it and gives me an error
3. If I run visual basic 2008 as Administrator and then execute the program it works.
4. If I try and execute it again as Administrator under Visual Basic it doesn't work and says I don't have sufficient access.
What I am trying to do is End a Process so that I am able to delete the folder, the folder contains and .dll which is being stuborn and saying I don't have sufficient access to do this.

I'm currently creating a maths game for primary school children and have questions based on addition, subtraction, division and multiplication.I tried it out yesterday and if I type in the correct answer, I get told it's wrong, but if I type in the in the number I'm dividing by, as the answer it comes up as correct. View 1 RepliesI am using VB.NET Framework 3.5 . I have a very complicated program with over 40 forms and 100s of lines of coding. Earlier today, this program worked perfectly. I decided to change the Assembly Name from APA to Salamander. I do not get any errors and things seem to be going fine. Upon the next debug, the splash screen loads fine. (I am using a timer to proceed to the main form, not the inbuilt splash screen setting as I found it to be more reliable). However, when the main form loads, none of the pictures (resources) load and it exits itself immediately yet no errors appear at all. I think it might be to do with the .resources file but I really don't know. As I only started Visual Basic less than two months ago I'm not sure what all the files other than .vb files actually are.I really don't want to have to completely rebuild the program as my release date is in five days and as I am still at school I don't have time to complete it on top of homework. I have tried changing the assembly name back to APA again but it still does not work. I am completely stumped.

i decided to go the extra mile and make sudoku.
The problem lies in generating the puzzle, the program always crashes, but there is never an error. im sure there are easy ways to make the generator, but from what we've learned this is the only way i know how to do it.

i made a function for each 3x3 square, and what happens is the block its currently on, checks for interferences horizontally, vertically, and within each 3x3 square, because computers process in order, i set it so that it only checks for previous block interferences, since this is the first 3x3 quadrant, there are no previous horizontal/verticals to check.
The code works fine, the problem is when i run it, it says its running but no form appears, i learned to use a progressbar to try and separate each 3x3 block to generate individually, to try and split the processes up 1 second at a time. the problem is, it does run, but it only generates a certain amount before it crashes, and every time its different, sometimes it generates half the puzzle, sometimes 1/3rd, sometimes only the first quadrant.
Is there a way to return only a set number of decimal places when using the mod function? My 'ones' equation seems to be rounding up? (I'm assuming I have the wrong idea about '\')

I have compiled a project with no errors and published the release version through ClickOnce to my website, almost 5 users are working ok with the application but on 2 computers the appliication fails when a button is pressed the exception is "Index was out of range.Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection. Parameter name : index" Note that no parameter is named index in my code and that the program runs fine on 2/3 of the computer's I there is an error why does the application compiles?Also i have send my project file to a friend to use on his own visual studio to check if it compiles and the errors appeared in the debuger despite that i havent managed to find a solution, i beleive that my code is probably ok. I'm using visual studio 2008 with Option Explisit and Option Strict On and all the deployment pc's have .net 3.5

Is there a way to catch ALL errors of the program?
Purpose: The idea is to catch all the errors of the program, load errorform which basically just says "A Error Was Detected" (Which I have already designed). Then send a web request to a formmail.php file with the said error (which i have already done).
In short: I need a way to catch ALL errors, and get the error string that it gave.
I wrote this VB program to be able to throw a device we developed into programming mode where we use an ATMEL Flip installer to upload new firmware. I can program one device after another running the application off of Visual Studio Express 2010 or Visual Studio 2010, but when I go to publish this file and run it on another machine, it becomes unstable and crashes after each upload. On those same computers if I run the raw unpackaged program under Visual Studio Express, the system does not crash, and I can program devices repeatedly.

I've got something like 100 compile errors and the "run with error's" warning doesn't appear at any time and when I do run my program it runs just the way it should. View 7 RepliesI've built a windows form application that steps through a wafer map and sends a command to ink specific dies if the bin number is between certain values. While debugging I have run into an issue with the program crashing with no error message anywhere. While stepping through my code, the place the program stops has occured in two different places but both in the same subroutine in the code I use for the network communications. I've written my own program to assist other engineers with their work at my company. Some people have been able to install the program with no problems, others can't seem to get it installed and I'm having trouble figuring out why. They install .Net Framework 4 as this is the Target framework that was setup in the file, although I don't think I fully utilize all the features yet and not sure when I will. I will post the portion of the log that contains the error. If anyone decode some of this so I can track down the problem. I'm not sure if downgrading the necessary version of .Net would work or not, but didn't want to be changing that unless there was a good reason too.

End A statement which as far as i know doesn't close you program properly and hides errors. Right now i'm being forced to use end because i don't know how else to close my program properly. This code runs alright because end is being used but if you rem end out the error which it's hiding comes out. The error is "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." I'm not totally sure but i'm guessing that the error is refering to the form.
