I'm using something call ultragrid in my program.The program works as a mini-record keeping area (Like any datagrid, really). Well, I am adding a history to it and it allows the user to see the last 50 records searched. They get a grid showing the records. This, thus far, works perfectly What I want to do is this: I want to select a record (A cell) in the column 'Dog and have the text of that cell appear in a textbox. This is what I've tried with no success.

i'm using vb 2010 to write a program for my school. i'm asking the teachers to key in their student's curricular activities into a program through datagridview. i manage to restrict the code they enter by validating it in the datagridview cellvaluechanged event handler. my idea is as follow.
1. teacher enters code in the datagrid.
2. vb check the the value and if it is in the database then update. if not then give a preset value "-1" as no record.

I have an editable DataGrid in a VB WPF application. The DataGrid itself has its SourceUpdated property set to my event handler. 2 of the columns in the grid are editable and have their NotifyOnSourceUpdated flag in the Binding set to True. The event is firing properly, but I can't seem to figure out the best way to determine what has changed. The 2 columns depend on each other in that one of them is an item quantity and the other is a case quantity. If the user changes one of them I want to re-compute the other value and update the grid as well as the binding source. I'm sure there are a number of ways to handle this, but I'm curious what is the best way. I could listen for change event on the datagrid, see what changed, set some variables, and then use those in the SourceUpdated event, but that doesn't seem elegant.

OK so after a week of aggravating, hair pulling, disaster of trying to figure out what should be simple tasks but beat me down! I have been working on a project. In this project I wish to be able to create electronic signatures. I have perfected the signing routine and also creating the memory astream and saving and retrieving an image. The problem comes in when I retrieve the image from the database. The image being saved does not capture the signature (the changes I've made to the picturebox)
1. I load a small bmp as the template on where to sign with by setting the picturebox.imagelocation to a network share
2. Using mousemove and mouseclick, and draw events I draw a signature on top of the picture box
3. I picturebox.image.save(memorystream) the picture box to a sql server from a button click event.
4. When I retrieve the saved image there are no edits (No signature) only the original image. I am sure that the original image is going in and that it is coming out every time.
My question is thus: How can I capture the signature that I have edited into the picture box. I have tried picturebox.save like I mentioned above and I have tried picturebox.update() but without success. Does anyone know what I missing I think that the answer lies in refreshing or updating the picturebox, but I'm not sure how.
I put a PropertyGrid control and set the control to be a button on my form and i run it and change some properties and reflected on the button but when i restart the application nothing is saved so i have to save it to the disk like serialize the control is this the right thing?

The purpose of this is to revert any new changes back to the original configuration. My application checks the state of each of the registry keys on startup. Is there a way to have it save the current configuration and then reload that configuration later ?

Somewhere in the VB2008 "configuration" files I believe that I need to manually change the old path to the new path.

on my Form I have a DataViewGrid and some textboxes with a save button (they are filled with additional data of the selected row).Save is disabled first, when I change something in the textboxes the save button is enabled.When the user changes a gow in the grid, I want to ask before changing the grid row, if he wants to save (if the button is enabled).I am using RowEnter but this is too late, then the selected row already changed (and my textboxes already got new data)...What event can I use to ask if I should save stuff before the user changes a row?Something like BeforeRowChanging with a chance to cancel changing the row?

I am using the DataGridView in Visual Basic 2008 Express with an Access 2000 database.
What I'm trying to do is allow the user to click on the Row Header and capture the contents of the 4 cells in the row to 4 dfined variables. I know that I can capture each cell individually by using the CellContentClick event but this would require the user to click 4 times rather then just once.
I have implemented the filestream feature of SQL Server 2008 in a VB.Net application. I can insert files, and then retrieve/view them just fine. However, I have huge problems trying to update a file. Eg. The user selects a file from the grid which I execute via process.start. If that file is a .txt file, the user may choose to edit it. In case that happens, I need to save the changed file back to the database. So far I have failed to do that.
What I do, is take the retrieved file, copy it (cause i got some errors about it being used), and then Process.Start it. After that, via .NET filestream, I convert the file to bytes and try to update the record. SQL Profiler and a manual SELECT on the varbinary(max) column tell me that the file is updated properly, but the very next try to retrieve it I get an unchanged file.
After that I also tried to update the file by changing its File-System Version, but the file still wouldn't seem to update. Does Anyone have a code sample of how I can achieve this operation? Like 500 sites on the internet have examples of how to Insert And Retrieve the file, but not a single example on how to update. This is how my second attempt of trying to update the file via the filesystem looks like. The code for inserting/retrieving is very similar and it works properly. [Code]

View 1 RepliesI have it mostly working right now, I can edit existing data and have it save to the database so when I re-open the program all the new data is still there. Now I get an error saying "Column 'AppID' does not allow nulls." when I try to create a new record. AppID is a column in the DB that I use to number the appointments. I guess it's looking for this value when it tries to save the new data, and since it isn't a field on the form it doesn't get an entry and fires that message. I've tried changing the AppID column to an AutoNumber field so it generates by itself but I still get the same error.
