I want to start osmon.exe with diffrent parameters, eg. Default, Osmon2, Osmon3, Osmon4 and Osmon5.After Default has started it must wait 10 seconds, after osmon5 has started it must wait 15 seonds.Then is must write the PID# to txt file.I have the code, but when I run it, it only shows the console for 1 second, and then nothing is happening after that.

Just kind of curious about something: why does VS (vb and C#) default params to pass-by-value?I almost never need or want to pass anything by value. Maybe this is some reflection on the way I code. I would never manipulate a value type param directly; i would just return the new value from a private variable... and I just don't see the need to do the background work all the time to add copies of everything to the stack. Why wouldn't I just about always want to pass-by-ref?

I just got upgraded from VB6.0 to VB2010. I'm trying to move some of my program functions over and I'm getting an error on the ones where I use optional... Public Function GetFolder(ByRef FTT As String, Optional InitFile As String)
I get the error at the end of the line, after the close par...the error is "optional parameters must specify a default value".

I have made my application to start automaticly when windows start (registry ../currentversion/run/appname + path). In this mode the application start minimized and an little icon appear in the notification icon area. With this icon you can maximize the app or exit it.If you exit the app and start it again using the Menu (Start/programs etc) than the application start in minimized mode (and in this case I would like to have it in normal mode) because the setting autostart is still true.Is there a way you can detect when the application start when windows startup using the above registry or when people click on an icon in the programs menu (or desktop)?

I need to be able to start with Form1, move to LoginForm, then back to Form1 taking 2 variables and the "values" they have in the LoginForm back to Form1 and using the variables. I start with the main form (Form1) and have the user enter some information. Once they click OK I have the LoginForm open. After they enter their credentials I will check to make sure they are legal users, then go back to Form1 (here is where I need to take the Username and Password with me) to log onto a server using the same credentails from the login form.

i have an application. this application is using findwindowa api for check if there is instance of its own. (sorry for english) so we cannot open this app two times. as you may guess i wanna open thousands instance of its. (or 2-3). i tried disassambler but code is encrytped or something like that. so what can i do? maybe i can:
* run app from diffrent application. if its possible findwindowa can fail.

I am working on an application which can apply tweaks to Windows XP. I populated a TreeView with some nodes, but how can I display the diffrent properties? I mean, some need some checkboxes or radiobuttons or a listview. I want something like a TabControl, but whitout buttons on the top.

I'm done with a solution and I don't want to work with it anymore, except for small bug fixes that may come up. I have a new project assigned to me which to take the project I just finished, and add some new features to it. But I wouuld be changing alot of stuff in this program. So I want to copy my solution, save it as a diffrent name, so I can work off the old solution and start modifying it, but I will always have the original one to fix any bugs or go back to.

I am working on a video chat program and I have almost everything working on my network I now need to figure out how to establish comunication between two clients from diffrent networks without having a middle person to switch each meassage to each other.
To clarify: I belive that I need to have a server running that each client when they start up the program will login to the server handing thier external ipaddress and port forward to get to each respective client, this will be stored in a SQL database (I know how to add the data just not hwo to get it from the source)
Then the server would brodcast the clients name to anyone that is authorized to know (currently everyone) and has there data stored on the server.Finnaly when the client shouts down it sends out the logging-off comand and deletes the adressing information from the server.The client programs will be windows form applications that use the tcpclient connection to send text meassage And the server application will be I hope a webapp.

I have been making a webbrowser in VB.net with a simple layout and simple things in it like a history, go buttons, back button, refresh, a menu etc(atm im trying to make a favourite, and a open file and stuff) but all of this are just things i see back in IE , as the engine or is based on it what my question was is it possible to make a webbrowser(not too hard ) with a diffrent engine.are there any lightweight engines? and how do i implent it with VB.net. how does this all in theory go, .i want to know how these engines work, and what functions i would need to use to make a webbrowser on that specific engine.

So I am working on a small program that will tell the engineers the status of their testers; whether they are up or down with the time and date in addition there is also a comment box. I have created a program that has all the right buttons and options. Where I am stuck is on the save option. I want the engineers to be able to make changes to the status/date/comments and by clicking the save button to save all changes(in the status and date boxes) and text(in the comment box) so that when the program is opened at a later time or by another user on the network from a diffrent work station the latest changes from whomever will be present. The code that follows only allows the changes to be seen by on that specific computer and they are not shared to everyone who uses the program that accesses it over the network. Any help would be awsome!! Hope this is clear!
How can I get it so everyone sees all changes over the network regardless of the computer they are using? any help would be amazing!!

I 'm trying to achieve is have 1 button that toggles between 2 batch files start/stop - when pressed the button calls for a batch file to start process - then if pressed again it calls for another batch file to stop the process. I should be able to get result back as long as there's a match in the parameters. If I use Function Contains (q.FirstName & " " & q.LastName).Contains(employeeName), I will not get any result back if employeeName is "John Clark" Function Contains looks only for next words from left to right. It doesn't match a single word at a time. So that's why I used this in the Linq to SQL:

Before I start, I'm not 100% sure this is the right place to ask. Okey, so I'm making my own Notepad, which will contain newer features. (Private use only though) One of them being tab control.
Now I want the program to be in the "Open With..." menus for all files, so I can choose myself.
And if the program is already running when user opens a new file, I want the text to appear in a new tab, instead of a new window of the program.
I tryed to be straight forward, and keep it short. So if you need more info, fell free to ask.

I have made a Database.mdf that contains a table that Includes 3 diffrent Column Names.
1:"ID" This one i set to an primary key and i have also made it automaticlly put a number in order to the list. Like 1,2,3,4,5 for each data added. Data Type for this is int.
2:"WordCombination" Were i enter my word combination that i want it to look for)
3."TypeofCombination" Were i enter what the program should add to what i typed in texbox1 if it contains the WordCombination.
I want my program to se if texbox1 contains any of those WordCombinations in my database. And if thats true, Then i want it to show whats in the TypeofCombination + the text in texbox1 in texbox2. If i enter "What do you want ?" in Textbox1 i want the program to find that "What do you want ?" contains "you want" like in ID:1 WordCombination:you want. So becuse this is ture it should enter TypeofCombination in this case "Question:" + what i entered in Textbox1 to show in Textbox2.So if i write "What do you want ?" and click start. Textbox2 should show "Question: What do you want ?" If i Write "My name is Jake" and click start. Textbox2 should show "Answer: My name is Jake".If I Write "hello you Hi there Jacob" and click start. Textbox2 should show "Greeting: hello you Hi there Jacob".And i Should be able to add and delete Word Combinations Without having to change the program.
