Is there a way to set a textbox in vb such that it does not accept a space or a non-numeric character entered by a user? I am writing a program that has a textbox called "phoneField" in which the user should type in only numbers and if the user trys to type a non-numeric character or space, nothing should be displayed in the textbox. How could that be done?
View 3 RepliesI need to write a program in VB 2008 express that takes an user entry from a textbox and strips out all the spaces, changes it to either all upper case or all lower case then checks to see if it is a palindrome. I must also include a loop structure and a decision structure. I have seen bits and pieces of code but I do not really know how to put them together. Basically I need it from the button click to the end. ?
View 3 Repliesway to clear textboxes in VB.Net and what is the difference between the two methods? I have also seen people be critical of folk using clear objects on their forms and i can see why but in this case, i am only learning.
txtbox1.Clear()
or
txtbox1.Text = ""
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
If Textbox1.Text.StartsWith(a.Text & (" ")) = True And String.IsNullOrEmpty(a.Text) = False Then
Textbox1.Text = encryption.Text.Remove(0, a.TextLength)
phrase.AppendText("a")

I want this part of my project to detect spaces because it can happen if the user puts in a certain value for on and that value begins with another it will not process. (ex. a.text = 123, b.text = 1234, then i get the outcome or "aa" and it should be "ab"
I'm using Visual Basic 11 (VS 11 Beta). I am having trouble finding, anywhere, how to delete all the spaces in a text box. Here let me give you an example: The user can load in a text file, that is fine. There is a button and when the user clicks it I want every single space in the file to be removed.

View 6 RepliesI am just wondering is there any way I could restrict entering spaces into a textbox, or how to check are there any spaces in the text? I do know how to remove them, so I would need to check or restrict
View 8 RepliesI have this program that outputs all the servers on a specific game. It outputs it to a text file. However, There is a lot of annoying spaces. This is kind of hard to explain, so I'll try to explain it. This is what The text file looks like.
Code:
173.81.220.139 2302
70.26.235.69 2302
24.26.119.209 2302
99.244.109.8 2302
190.234.169.198 27667
As you can see, they have these annoying spaces. What I want to do:
1. Get rid of the spaces, But keep the space between the IP and the Port.
2. After the spaces that are bad are gone, I want the program to output each single IP AND port To its own text Box. It doesn't matter is the textbox of the IP and Port are seperated, It can just be one textbox with the IP and port, with a space between them. Thats about it!! I have the GUI done, and the rest of the programming, all I need now is this.
Reformat without spaces > output each seperate line of text to a seperate textbox > TYTYTYTY
Is there a way for VB to send a command to the command prompt? Say, I wanted it to open a CMD box and send ipconfig into that box, what would that be?

I just changed a control on a form from a masked textbox to a normal textbox because I wrote my own code to validate the data. I'm trying to clear the leading spaces that were created for this column in an Access database using the LTrim function and it doesn't work for some reason. The column is " :30" in the table and when I LTrim it and save the changes, it's still " :30" , not ":30". Is that leading entry not a space character?

The code below tries to clear the cookies for all domains once a user logs out of the system. For some reason, only the last domain in the array is cleared. Why does this happen?
For example, if I change the size of the array to 4 and then change the for loop to only go to 3, then it only logs me out of y.xcv.com.
As a sidenote, I have this loop working on a different server that uses a slightly different function to clear the cookies.
Edit: Code updated per suggestions below. Now it fails on the "as HttpCookie" line. Do I need to include some library?
Dim aDomain(12)
Dim ESidCookie, WIdCookie, EBidCookie, TSidAccessCookie, PSidAccessCookie, SSidCookie As HttpCookie

View 4 RepliesI'm trying to write a Database manager in VB (2010) that updates a SQL database that compiles and summarizes my financial records. The code works, but I'm having issues with one exception that I think I understand, but can't circumvent. I've built an I/O form that enters a series of purchases and sales into a temporary datatable. After review of the list, the program connects to the database and executes the SQL. That all works and isn't a problem.

1. After I clicked the Sine button, I get the result in a textbox.. When the result is there, for example: 1 radians Sine = 0.8414.... I can still put numbers at the end of this result.. like button 5 will be 0.84145, so how can I disable that?
2. After I get the result from a calculation, the textbox should be cleared when I insert a new number.
I have just realised that ComboBoxes don't have a Change event. I have a combobox filled with a few items, eg. Bakery, Deli, Fruit & Veg, etc. Choose one of these items, all the related items show in the dgv. However, when I blank the text in the Combobox (press Delete key whilst Combobox has the focus), what event fires so I can blank the dgv? The combobox does not contain a Blank item. Even if it does, the Blank item only fires the ComboBox1_SelectedIndexChanged when the user scrolls down to, or clicks on, the blank value.
I want to clear the dgv when the user blanks the combobox without necessarily changing the selection index.
When .Clear() is invoked, is the memory freed up that was allocated when all of the items were added? I need to load several lists of codes from a database depending on the import selected by the user. Each list of codes will be a List(Of String). My idea is that I will load only small strings into a List(Of String) along with a List(Of <class>) for the data I will be validating and manipulating. When I am done, I want all of the data from the Lists to be purged from memory. Will .Clear() take care of that or does the memory still remain allocated and have to be dumped by the OS once memory gets full? (And, incidentally, what causes the OS to decide which memory blocks to dump? FIFO concept?)
There are so many lists, I'm not sure if I just want them sitting in memory or not. Granted, the lists will just consist of a single string value for each code pulled from the database. So there won't be a ton of data, so maybe I could just load all the validation lists at the beginning of runtime and only worry about purging the data List since it will contain between 35-50 "fields" per record and there will be a couple thousand records each import that is run. I don't want my program to actually cause a hit in performance in the long run. I ultimately don't see a problem because I won't be running millions or even hundreds of thousands of records at once, but I just want to be sure.
