I am trying to auto populate some fields in my datagridview on my form called frmInfo.
I will try to explain what I need. The main form of my project is called frmEntry. frmEntry is mainly a data entry form only. A binding navigator is present to navigate between different record stored in the database. I want the datagridview on frmInfo to "grab" info present in the text fields of frmEntry.
Does anyone know how to sum fields in ms access using SQL and then place it in datagridview? I have a ms access table with fields 'Points' and 'FacultyID'. I would like to know how to sum all values on 'Points' field and place it in datagridview. Also, I would like to know how to filter values from 'Points' based on selected 'FacultyID'.

i am doing a small project for my business and i got stuck with this 2 weeks ago and still no progress.I have an access db table "store" that has columns: (filldate,brand,model,plateno,mileage,litres) where i am storing these info each time a car in my company fills gas. For example (8/25/ 2011,Renault,Megane,5487844,3943,20).What i want to do now is to display in a datagrid the total consumption of gas (litres) with the kilometers driven (mileage) between 2 dates.
View 5 RepliesI'm currently refactoring an old Visual Basic DLL (VB.Net), which stores all of its data in one module called Globaldefinitions as public fields. There are about 200 fields, referenced thousands of times all around the code:
Public Module Globaldefinitons
Public a As Short
...
Public zz10 As Double
[Code]...
I need to change the module into a class with non-shared fields. This means, each and every of these thousands of references needs to reference the instance of that class:
globalDefinitionsInstance.a = 5
How do I go about this efficiently?
Regular expressions operating on the source fall flat. Refactoring tools like Re-Sharper or CodeRush don't seem to offer this functionality. Visual Studio 2010 cannot do it automatically either.
Class Foo
ReadOnly name As String
Public Sub New(name As String, dependentUpon As Foo)
Me.name = name
[code]....
The output of New Bar() is:
Dependent created. Dependent upon nothing.
Independent created. Dependent upon nothing.
It seems fields are initialized in the same order as they appear in the source code, which (a) leads to an unexpected result, and (b) seems a little puzzling, given that one is normally not permitted to read from uninitialized variables in .NET, yet that seems to be working fine above.I would've expected VB.NET to be smart enough to initialize referenced fields first, and only then those that reference it; i.e. I'd have liked to see this output instead:
Independent created. Dependent upon nothing.
Dependent created. Dependent upon Independent.
how to get VB.NET to behave like that instead, without simply having to swap the declaration order of dependent and independent inside class Bar?
I'm trying to create a table in Word using data from a table in Access. There are four fields in the access table that I need. 3 fields are text which I can populate the Word without any issues. However the fourth field is a memo with >255 characters.I'm struggling to come up with the proper code to allow me to populate the Word field with the memo data that has more than 255 characters. The code I have so far is listed below. But when it hits the memo field, it crashes on the line I marked with **. I know it's not text, but I've tried many different field types, but nothing has worked so far.[code]...

View 3 RepliesMy program is databound to an access 2007 database. I have a datagridview showing rows as part of my screen and the other part of my screen is texboxes bound to a different table.What I currently have:
1. Date in textbox from one table
2. Age in Datagridview column from another table
I need help with having a calculated date column in the datagridview that will be the textbox date + age (in days) in the datagrid column. I would also need this column to store in my database like any other field also. So if I typed in 2/17/11 into the textbox, and I typed in 2 in the age field, the calculated field would display and store 2/19/2011 in my datagrid and database. My dataset designer won't let me add a date to a string so I'm completely lost. A query calculates it easy in access but when I load the access query in my dataset it doesn't calculate anymore.
VS 2010 [RESOLVED] Caluclated Fields in a Datagrid
View 8 RepliesI have been using VB a fair bit in the past developing a Access Database, recently I wanted to give my front end interface a bit more power so I have started learning VS 2010.
Anyways, I am still using Access for my databases and i am having a bit of trouble working with the data in VS 2010, what i would like is the following:
A way to form a string or integer from a SQL query (from a single field or multiple on that row) assuming the query will always return one row.
Then a way to write string or integer variables back in to db fields.
example:
Dim cn As New OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=|DataDirectory|ItemRegisterDB.mdb")
Dim cmd As New OleDb.OleDbCommand With {.Connection = cn, .CommandText = "select * from tblItemregister where ItemID = 1"}
[Code]....
Example = ??? 'What would i need here to copy fields from that row to string?
I want to be able to select multiple files to upload to my FTP server. Everytime i browse for a file i want a new "Browse" button to appear. What i found was:
Dim f As New Button
f.Location = New Point(0, 0)
f.Parent = Me
[code]....
I used to run into problems with this in VB6, too...
If Not ds_Students.Tables(0).Rows(0).Item("ClassDay2").IsNullOrEmpty Then
txtClassDay2.Text = ds_Students.Tables(0).Rows(0).Item("ClassDay2")
End If
This produces "Public member 'IsNullOrEmpty' on type 'DBNull' not found."
And is there a different test for fields of different data types?
I have several sqldatasources for my gridview. All of the columns are autogenerated. However they all have some consistent fields and I'd like to make those fields template fields so I can modify the edit template for them such as adding a drop down menu. Is this possible?

I am starting to design a payment form that the user enters rent information and any payments/deductions. Should my fields in my table be set to decimal or double? Currently they are ALL set to Currency. I'm trying to add the fields but it don't seem to work. I know this one wont work: You cannot do math operation over string (Text property of textBox is just a string).

I have just loaded an access 10.0 database into my VB project as a dataset.Two of the tables contain an Ole object field and an attachment field (the data in the fields are described by the field types). All of the data contained in either of these field types, when observed in the dataset, show a warning and indicate that it is unable to display that data. As might be expected, when the data is called in a gridview, anything from those fields throws errors.
I would like to know if there are any known issues with these types of fields and VB, and if so what might be done to resolve that.
I am converting a VB 6 app to VB.Net. In the vb 6 version I have a table that contains roughly 80 fields. Over that table the users currently have a single form which gives 12 diferent views. Each view is placed on a different tab, which, although giving a distinct set of fields per tab, also leads to a ton of duplicated code. Changing the underlying table is not an option.
What I would like to do is to use a single datasource (containing all 80 fields), a single datagridview on the form, and have a combobox act as the filter choice for the differing views. Does my solution seem like the right way to handle this? If so, I'm not sure I know which controls would best be used.
Issue: The .xls file has about 800 records but it's only importing about 480 records. I step through each row and find out that some rows have null values.After spending some time I believe I figured out why this is happening. My first field is a SKU value. The first x rows have all numeric values. Then it gets to a SKU like '1234-SE' and this row doesn't have data. So it's like it takes on the field type of the first data type.Question: Is there a way to order the data before I populate the dataset? I tried to do an order by but didn't work.My current code that is not working as I want.**NOTE: I have tried 'ORDER BY SKU ASC' and didn't work as well.

The query, shown first in the attached code, works well if there is one column in one database table, however it does not work well when there are a number of columns with a different number of fields respectively. I use this code to insert datab from my VB.Net form into my MS Access 2003:
[Code]...
I'm trying to insert a couple of fields into a csv config file and then update all other rows in the file at the same index by copying the previous 2 entries. I'm reading through each row and converting the row into a list(of String) because it seems to be the most flexible way. Ine initial insert works fine, but the code below doesn't. The actual insert code is:
[Code]...
pcIndex is the list index value from elsewhere in the code at the insertion of the 1st of a pair of values into one row. I need to update that index point and pcIndex +1 in all other rows. However it's not doing anything. Tried using lstSteps.Insert, InsertRange, etc. Am I using this right? Is there a better way? It seems to be over-writing the entry rather than inserting a new column and moving the others up, so it appears the list capacity value isn't updating - so I'm left with the initial row with 4 more entries than the others sticking out of the file.
I have WebBrowser1 and this code on a button: WebBrowser1.Navigate(URLBox.Text) That all works fine and I can enter text and go to the webpage. How do I:
1. Check for when the page has finished loading?
2. Auto populate 2 fields on the webpage and click login?
