Everything works great in all versions of windows except the new Windows 7 where i am getting this error message:

32 Bit Application Crashes When Exiting On Windows 2008 64 Bit

Jan 4, 2011

We have an application that works well on XP/Pro, Vista, Windows 7, Windows 2003 Server, Windows 2008 Server (32 bit) but is problematic on Windows 2008 Server (64 bit). The application uses an unsigned activeX control which may or may not be related to the problem. To install we need to add the program name and regsvr32 as DEP exceptions. Once that is done the application installs correctly and operates normally except when the application closes.

If a user clicks the 'exit' button our code basically says 'unload me' (where me = the main form of the application) and there is no code in the form_unload section of the program.

Everything works well on every Windows platform except Win 2008 64 bit where we get

APPCRASH
Application Name: PDFPrint.exe
Application Version: 10.10.0.18
Application Timestamp: 4d238253

[Code].....

After we continue to close the program we see a message box with run time error 216 at 00002B24 message.

VS 2008 - Web Services Application Takes FOR EVER To Build / Run Using Windows 7

Jul 6, 2010

I'm a relatively seasoned VB (COM) vet but this is my first VB.Net application and as is my luck a web services application feeding off a site that I can't publicly mention nor can I post any code that may expose the site.

So, here's the problem. I have written a simple form and have 2 buttons. 1 button simply asks the webservice for it's version. This works no problem. I was able to load the web reference using their supplied WSDL file for this "version" class. Now that I have that working I think "GREAT, that was straight forward. I have my credentials, urls, etc working, the rest of this should be just as straight forward." (See where I jinxed myself here?)

Anyway, I move onto the next WSDL and set of classes and get that reference added no problem. (Man that took a LONG time, like 20 minutes.) I then build my "Get my order data" code syntaxes on the prescribed exposed classes and run my project just to see what errors I get. The "run" process takes almost 45 minutes to an hour..... It's as if the app is getting the WSDL set all over again but doing it over and over..... I have no clue what's going on.

I've tried to disable all the Windows 7 "potential" issues, UAC, firewall, etc, but these changes don't help. Anti virus, spyware, etc all these are off and no difference. I'm running VS2008 as an Admin, right click "run as admin", and have complete control over this machine. Any ideas, suggestions, etc are VERY welcome and I am happy to expose as much of this application as I can providing I can stay with in the rules of the confidentiality contract.

SerialPort Events Won't Fire On Windows Server 2008 Using .NET 2.0 Application

Jul 9, 2010

I have a program that reads data from a scanner via the serial port. This program works fine on Windows XP.We have a terminal server set up running Windows Server 2008.I run HyperTerminal on our test terminal, it connects and reads the scanner data fine through COM1.I run my app on that same test terminal and get nothing when I scan.My app connects to COM1 without errors and disconnects without errors.BUT, the DataRecieved event is NEVER getting fired.Neither is the ErrorReceived event.I have played with the Handshaking, with the RecievedBytesThreshhold and pretty much every setup setting I found.Set it up exactly like the settings on Hyperterminal.I have even tried starting a timer on a different thread to call ReadByte every second to try to KICK this thing into doing SOMETHING.Nothing has worked.

I have been trying to fix this for an entire day now.Added events to my class trying to see EVERYTHING that is going on. All I know is, it connects to the port and it disconnects from the port correctly but nothing happens in between. No data when I scan.No event fired at all between connecting to and disconnecting from the port.I have also downloaded other's simple serial communications applications.Nothing in .NET works.[code]
