May 17, 2012
just forgot, I knew this "Textbox1.text = format(textbox1.text, "####.00")" will set up the format to 4number with two decimal - 1234.00, how about if the user enter 12345.00, five number with two decimal, how did you do the check and give error message?

I'm trying to validate an IP address in dot decimal format e.g. 127.55.21.1
System.Net.IPAddress.TryParse(IP, Nothing)
This though returns numbers like "500" or "9" as valid. Why does it do this? Do I have to set the IP address version, if so how would I do this?

I currently have a calculation that gets performed based on the type of operation a user chooses on my form (+, -, *, or /). I have it check their answer against the correct answer and tell them if they get the answer right or wrong. I need to know how I can check the answer when they choose a division sign that checks only the first two digits of the lbltxtAnswer label. I also currently have a validation that checks for numbers only, so if the user types in a decimal, the error message displays, which I don't want it to do. Here is my calculation and validation [code]...

it should take either decimal values or integers and max length is 16if it takes decimal value as input then it should contain only 14 digits in decimal place and 2 digits in fraction part eg(1234567.12-valid) but (12345678.123 - invalid) and also(123456.12345- invalid)

I have this code that is supposed to validate that the value a user enters into the textbox is a number and not blank, but it is displaying the error message even if the user enters a number.
Private Sub txtAnswer_TextChanged(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles txtAnswer.TextChanged
If Not IsNumeric(txtAnswer.Text) And (txtAnswer.Text <> " ") Then
MsgBox("Please enter a number! Try Again!")
txtAnswer.Focus()
Exit Sub
End If
End Sub
I just realized I already have another section that checks if the textbox is left blank, but I still need to check that it is numeric.

How can I only add the decimal part of a number to another one?
example: if a number is A = 10.25
Then X = 30
Y = X + 0.25 (Here it added 0.25 which the decimal only NOT 10.25)
Another example, If X = 16.35, A = 102.001
Y = 16.351

I am attempting to take the decimal places of a given input, round it so there are only two decimal places, then change it to a whole number. So far I have been able to remove the integer part of the number, leaving only the decimal, but the other procedures are eluding me. Here's what I have so far: (VB 2008)
Private Function DecimalNumber(ByVal number As Double) As Double
Dim Input As Double
Dim SubtractNumber As Decimal
[Code]....
That code returns the decimal part of the input just fine, and I thought maybe multiplying it by 10 would work....but obviously you run into problems when there is more than one decimal place.

I have class representing a unit of measure with a Decimal as the numeric. Just to simplify things for this example, let's say I'm representing centimeters. I'd like to implement a ToString() method for this class. The thing is, if the numeric value is a whole number I'd like to just display the decimal as an integer. Otherwise, I'd like to keep it as a decimal. So, for example, 10.5D centimeters would display as "10.5cm", but 7.0D centimeters should display as "7cm". I'd like this to be fast and simple to read. I have a working solution, but it seems like there should be a better way.Here's a contrived example showing my first crack at it:
Public Property Units As String = "cm"
Public Property NumericValue As Decimal = 10.5D
Public Overrides Function ToString()
[code].....
