I made a simple chat system that connects to a server with a client one on one. I'm not really sure how to get multiple clients with the server so that you can see everyone's messages. Here is the source code. The Server only accepts one client at a time.

What I need to do is build a server application that accepts tcp client requests from different clients running on same port say:1003. I experimented by using asynchronous mode call backs etc. but it disconnects once connection is established and does not respond for further requests from the same client.

I am facing a problem in VB .net Client/Server application where I am successfully able to talk between them using TCPListener and TCPClient class usage. However, when I try to connect another Client to the same server on the same welcome port, it errors out throwing an exception or behaves very unexpectedly.Isn't it true that the Server connection is on a WELCOME PORT for all the clients, and that each client connected gets a new port to carry on its communication with the server AUTOMATICALLY (according to the Tomcat webserver working)

Because if I close the client application when its connected to the server it will crash the server as well. Please let me know if anyone has any solutions.

View 2 RepliesI am working to make a function that will update the back color of a text box based on multiple variables values. I can write the code to do the calculation, but I am not sure how to make the function realize which text box to update (as I will have about 30 different boxes). Below is the code that I have for each box so far, but I will have quite a few more, and would rather use a function to reduce the amount of code, and also make it cleaner as well.

Or is there a way that I can tell the function that it's updating the text box that call the function in the first place? Say if txtBox1 has updated text and calls the function, then the function 'knows' to update txtBox1, but will update txtBox2 when it's called by txtBox2.

I have 2 console apps projects in the same directory but different projects. There is some common code in the App_Code directory and a common app.config which gets build into seperate .exe.config files.One module (VScanDemonStarter) starts up and writes to one logger with its own appender going to a seperate file. It uses an process.start() to execute the other module (VScanDemon) in another command prompt hidden window.When I run VScanDemon by itself it puts entries into its log file. When I run VScanDemonStarter it puts entries into its (different) log file, the VScanDemon log file gets created, but no entries. I can see it is executing because some files get moved from one directory to another. Just no Log entries.

I teach programming at a high school and I have used VB 2005 Express (in a computer lab of 33 clients) for a number of years without a problem. However, this year I switched over to VB 2008 Express and now I am constantly having registration issues. I have found the following ...
1. You must re-register the product for every user on that client
2. Each client must have a unique registration key
3. You are allowed only 30 days of useage without registration
What is happening is I asked my students to register the application themselves. But we keep getting this registration request every time a student switches seats in the room. Now we are getting an error message that says we have had too many registrations from this IP address.Is there a registration key that will work on more than one computer? Is there any way around the registration issue?
I've got a game I would like to build, it will require a central game server where peoples data (game data :-)) will be sent to and shared with other players - how is the done. Is it remoting? TCP? something else - I need to study up on it but want to make sure I'm learning the right thing.

All that stuff about TCP/IP just is not working! Using TCP/IP I cannot connect to anyone out of my network! View 4 RepliesI have a large class that I built to act as a TCP server for one of my silverlight applications. When a user connects it stores the tcp client into a table for later communication. The problem is that when I send data, with more than one client connected, it loops through both open TCP Clients but some how sends the data twice to the same client.... the other tcp client never receives his data. This isn't a logic issue as I can step through the code and see that it is clearly taking each individual TCP client out of the table and sending it the data. They all use the same port... could that be the issue? And if so how do I make it so that it can connect on one port then transfer to another? I have tried using different computers for connecting but still the most recently connected client receives all of the packets of data.
View 6 RepliesI have a Visual Basic project and when working and modifying code, the compiler will crash and then a message will say something like "Microsoft visual studio encountered a problem and was shut down." I've tried editing code from the solution and the project. Both produce the error. Usually occurs when adding an "IF...Then..." condition. May work for hours but then crash. Solution will compile and build.

Im trying to connect a SQL Server file named mybookstore.mdf, i've created this file in a MS SQL Server 2008 Express on the server named SQLEXPRESS when I open Visual Studio and tried to connect to it(assuming im on a project), VS cannot find my server instance when I tried to connect to it(connect to server) in the Server Explorer, i tried typing localhostSQLEXPRESS but it throws a message that it cannot be found i've also tried to open my database using the connect to database button on the Server Explorer but it ask me if I want to create it?

I am using Visual Studio 2010 with ASP.NET, VB, and using SQL Server as my database
I am creating a website using ASP.NET and I have a mailing list database, I have a add to mailing list page that takes in certain fields (Name, e-mail, phone number) that are TextBox and a sumbit button. When the submit button is clicked how to do I take the current values of those text fields and add them to the database.
I have done it using the DetailedView which works at adding to the database but I also want to redirect to a different page after inserting.
how to take the values from the TextBox and insert them into the database, or how to I redirect to a different page after inserting a new row with DetailedView.

View 1 Repliesi notice that when i start next line of code and i press enter, it recompacts itself and the continued line moves left a bit... then if i place focus on the second line and press enter again, it (the second line) moves to the left some more, and it keeps doing this every time i focus on second line and press enter. how can i make it so that my second (and third etc) lines are formatted in a pre-determined way so they are always a certain amount of tabs indented to the right from where my line 1 starts?
View 3 RepliesBack in Visual Basic 6.0 and prior I could have a picturebox control and then have multiple images on that and using a gif file; then I'd have some images transparent. For example, I am trying to make a map where each country has it's own layer and the void is transparent so the underlying picturebox contains all the water.
However, in visual studio I've noticed the image control is now gone. I tried using a panel and a picturebox on top of that and it works but I can't use another picturebox on top of that picturebox, nor can I stack multiple panels with the same affect.
I am converting an older software package written in VB 6 to VS 2010.Not to incredibly painful but planning for the future as we have had lets say a few issues with VB 6 on our current layout of multiple OS and this is my first real project lead.We are a smaller job shop and we move on a rotation of new PC's/OS's come in to replace broken or exhausted older PC's in the front office and move the older PC's out to the shop floor.We have an array of different OS's ranging from Windows 98 and Windows 7 (32 bit and 64 bit OS). By the time I am done with the conversion we should be sitting comfortable with a range of PC's from XP and up. When creating the executable for my project is this something that can be handled ahead of time, creating multiple executables for specified OS, or an all in one package executable?I was looking to see what people had as suggestions at handling this.We haven't even bought VS yet and are looking at the VS 2010 Premium package, do I need Ultimate?
