I have written a small project that saves data in a data set, this part works fine, but I have some errors with the code I have written for importing excel data to the datagridview and exporting data from the data grid view.
This is a test project for me to learn how to do this stuff, so I will post the code for the entire project so you can see what I have done from start to finish.

I've written a very simple program that writes a tiny "config.cfg" (text) file to the computer (using StreamWriter), and a second program that is supposed to read that data back.
Unfortunately, it appears you can't save to the same folder as your program under Win7 ("Program Files (x86)" is a restricted folder.) So instead, VB automatically saves my data to the "C:Users(myname)AppDataRoaming..." folder. This is annoying, but tolerable.
PROBLEM IS: How does my second app then FIND my data file (without doing a time-wasting drive search every time the program is run?)

I have an application that uses Dataset.WriteXML to create a small backup before data is syncronized to a data store (less than a meg).This application has worked well for 5 years now, and all of a sudden with the installation of XML 6.0 SP2 the XML document is not working correctly.I have multiple tables within a Dataset (Company, Contact, Notes, etc...)When WriteXML is called, the first table should be Company, however, the first table is being named Contact with the Company Data in it. The Notes table is being called Contact and so forth. In other words it's not giving the correct names to the tables in the XML File.This appears to be a bug, which is causing great distress on all the companies who have been using this program.

I'm new to using httpwebrequest i've always just used webbrower controls but want to get away from doing that for obvious reason with that said.
I'm having it go to a wepage there is no login what so ever. but there is a cookie that holds saved data from the page. when in IE or any other brower you click an option from a combo box and it reloads the page and saves that data to a cookie.

I'm trying to access a data structure array(uNewValues) of type PLCCOMMLib.ANALOG_CONTIN. uNewValues should be a datastructure array of several elements (iSigIDCount). My problem is I only get the first array element of the datastructure.I've tried several methods and looked into marshalling but don't understand how to implement marshalling if that is the correct option.

I have a small program on the menu written in VB6 retrieve data from Acess run very fast and now want to switch to VBNet2008. VBNet2008 conversion is still normal, but when running the menu does not appear that waiting in line, then click on the menu bar of this menu appears, but not the font is in Unicode data is available. Expect you to help debug programs that run on VBNet2008 still running good access Menu fast as running on VB6. Also supported is Unicode font on VBNet2008 does not function for unicode font. I have a VB.net application that gets data off our server with ODBC and populates and saves a Word Document. When I try to deploy it to another computer it will get the data just fine and populate the first document, but it will crash before saving it. I've installed the .net framework 4.0, Microsoft Data Access Components, and the Microsoft ODBC .net data Provider. The error code is 0xC0000005, which is from what I can see is called an "Access Violation Exception." It works fine on my computer.

View 2 RepliesThis error has me completely baffled. There is no indication (that I ca FinD as to what field won't handle the information. Heres the situation:I am using an Accees query to insert a new record in a table with 49 fields. Of these fields, 1 is an integer, 7 are booleans and the other 41 are text fields. The text fields represent either Time of Day or a Timespan.
My field sizes are:
For time of day 8 digits(example 08:00 AM)
For a time span 5 digits(example 03:30) I will never exceed 2 digits for
hours
I have checked every field in the dtatbase and they are all as noted. I am at a loss as to how to proceed.
Is it possible to use VB code to code an application that can merge Hex data from a small (50kb) .dat file with the hex data from another small (50kb) file? This would require designating specific offsets, which I can pre-program, but If I could have user input this would be preferred.
Example.

Is there another way to easily make a POST request in .NET other than the WebRequest class? I have a very, VERY small piece of data I need to post: password=theword but WebRequest randomly, and I mean randomly, drops the data when posting to my server. I've tested it by using a chunk of code from my server that dumps the request to a console, and I can that the client is sometimes sending and sometimes not sending the POST data.The code that I'm using that uses WebRequest works in another project, when talking to IIS. The server being talked to (a minimal web server in another system) responds properly every time I POST data to it through Firefox. I've got a function in the same project that fires off a GET request, and that works. It just seems like my POST function isn't completing the transaction...something I've noticed in the past when asking WebRequest to handle small strings.[code]

Updating an Excel file from a dataset seems to work fine. But if I have text that's longer than 255 characters then I get the error above.I've been working on this for a couple of hours and I haven't gotten anywhere. View 5 RepliesI will be using .Net to communicate with a small unit that outputs data via a serial port. I have used an application that monitors the data between an application and this little box. What I see is functions such as IRP_MJ_CREATE, IRP_MJ_READ, etc. At first I thought I needed to build functions and I would send these via the serial port (a novice thought) now I see that the above functions are part of the Windows Driver Kit. So is it true that I call these functions in my code and then the underlying drivers communicate to the serial port and the approppriate data is seen at the serial port. So for .Net (VB) I need to find and use the appropriate functions and communicate to the serial port.

I place this in text changed event and I have a problem implementing it, because the date conversion will not take place until the data is loaded. The second part works but not the first(Date) part.

I want to check at runtime if an assembly was probably written in VB. It doesn't have to be a bullet-proof method. Maybe call GetReferencedAssemblies() and check for an assembly that all VB projects reference?
View 3 RepliesI am a sys admin for a company and our programmer left several months ago. a program they wrote is now failing and i am struggling to work out why. the program basically pulls data from a csv file into a readable form, written in visual basic. the application works on a couple of machines but not on a couple of others. i have matched up .Net framework versions, MS Primary Interop Assembly versions, still no joy. As the app works on some pc's i am wondering what other differences could cause this?

I first thought on a listbox, but there is also a listview which seems much more complete, but I just don't know how to use it. I was wondering if I could make something like: I open a folder, all the items inside that folder would be listed inside the listview.I learned a bit, but not enough. I've set the listview to 'details' mode, so I can actually list items. Also, I've added three collums: one for file name, other for file size and another for file attributes. I just need to learn now how they works.

View 1 RepliesIts a League Organizer, basicly ive started it off with 16 teams and end up with 1(winner) 16 box's on the far left, then 8, then 4, then 2, then 1. the 16 box's have "Team 1" "Team 2" etc... ive put a new/clear/open/save button in that order.
BUT this is my problem..when i save(Save Button) the text file saves all the text wrong it ends up like this...Team 1Team 2Team 3Team 4 Etc...
